This is something I should have made a long time ago. You know, back when I still made caves and it'd actually be useful to me. Anyway, I posted the link a little below, and I'd appreciate it if you all'd download it, play around with it, and tell me what you think. I don't want you guys to mention any potential new features just yet, I just want to know if you can find any bugs, or anything that doesn't function in the way that you would perhaps expect it to.

http://www.interguild.org/hatpc/cavemaker.zip (EDIT: You cannot trust this link to be remotely up-to-date.)

Due to a forum bug, you'll probably have to copy that and paste it into your address bar.

To run that, you'll first have to extract that all into the same folder. If you can't extract zip files, download WinRAR: http://www.win-rar.com/download.html

You'll also need to make sure you have the latest version of Java: http://www.java.com

Inside, there's a file named cavemaker.bat, which you will double-click on the run the program. A cmd window will pop up and hang around with you the whole time as you use the cavemaker. Close it, and you close the cavemaker with it, so, just ignore it for now. If it comes up and then just goes away, then you (probably) have not, either, followed these steps properly, or you do not have the latest version of java on your computer. I'm working on a way to make it stand-alone, but for now this will suffice. Also, you can make a short-cut of the .bat file (right-click create shortcut, probably) and then you can paste that into wherever you'd like to be able to open the cavemaker from. Also note that, since this was coded in java, it should be able to run on systems other than Windows. I haven't seen fungus in a while, but if you see him, direct him here so I can get that straightened out. We might have to jump through a few hoops, but it should be able to run on his mac. Update: The cavemaker program is now in a jar file. You should be able to run it by double clicking but, if not, set java as the default program from opening jar files. The .bat is still there if needed.

If you have Windows 7, check out this short topic for help: http://www.interguild.org/members/forums/topic.php?id=5124

I'm going to attempt to list some of the changes that I've made from the Neopets version. Here's what I could think of, in no particular order:

Spoiler: ''List of Changes from the Neopets Version''

So yeah, try it out, and if there's anything that gets on your nerves, let me know I'll try making changes to it. I'll work on adding new features at an unspecified point in the future. For now, I'd like to ensure that this is working properly and there's nothing about it that people just hate to death.

Lol. Really, just, at this point, if you think of something, come and tell me. I won't implement everything I hear, but I won't implement much of anything at all if I don't hear anything.

Anyway, I've increase the memory allocated to my program significantly. Now it's a huge memory sink, lol. Like, 225MB RAM. That's crazy, lol. I have 893 total, and on a good day 550 is being used, so... well, do the math. I guess, don't use the whole space if your computer can't afford it? Anyway, I did a test, and, worst-case scenario, and I can have a little over 1000 undos, so, what I need is, what combination of maximum amount of undos and maximum number of open caves would you prefer? You know, 100 undos, 10 open caves. Or, 50 undos, 20 caves... Like that.

lol but you still can't get rid of the command prompt?

I'd prefer 100 undos any day. and no one would ever have more than 10 caves and work on them so intently that they'll need more than 50 undos. 0_o

I was leaning toward that too. Actually, if there's an even multiple of 15, I'd probably try that. 1000/15... oh dear... NOT GOOD. Anyway, to increase the heap size, I just used the command prompt, lol. It'll say a little more than just "java Cavemaker" from now on... If your computer can't handle the increase in size, I could help you change it by editing the bat file.

It's a forum bug - Copy the link manually instead and paste it into your browser.

I think I've done every thing right. I went into the folder, extracted the batch file and ran it, but it still isn't working. I'm probably missing something really obvious.

Did you extract everything into the same folder?

And if a command window pops up, can you read what it says before it goes away? If it's too fast, try taking a screenshot at just the right time.

I updated the changes log. Check the front page for the features that you can expect in the near future. The next version is still unreleased, however. I have exams coming soon, too, and I can't work on it now 'cause I have to use the washroom really bad.

csd you should add a feature that takes your code directly to my uploader-glitch scanner page, since you said you wouldn't add such a feature to the cavemaker

No idea how to do that. It would be easier to make my own scanner, which I might, someday. I'd have to check for violations to the normal uploader before I start worrying about the glitched one. This isn't the type of thing I'm going to include in the next update, though. Maybe the next one, I guess. It'll still be a little bit before the next update is ready, though.

I decided to upload the next update now, since it could definitely be a while before I finish (or even start, lol) working of the dialog or all dialogs: the MEGA dialog. Anyway, check out the newest version. Remember to back-up your caves just in case (sweeping changes were made to how I've implemented file load/save, but from what I've seen, it still works fine) and check out the new features, including loading directly from usernames and galleries, options that save, and a grid that doesn't default back to the upper-left every time you undo/redo or change dimensions (I think it was Isa who was really hankering for that one).

It won't bring you back to the top-left corner when you undo? Thank you for that. That was pretty annoying.

Worst thing is, this was REALLY easy to implement. It's just three steps:

1. Save the current scroll position.
2. Once finished, set the scroll position back to that.
3. Paste that a few times.

Viola!

I just noticed I made a mistake when I zipped up the file. I forgot to blank settings.txt. It's not the biggest deal so I'm not going to re-upload, but, just, blank the file before you use it anyway, promise?
