In order to play the game, "Hannah and the Pirate Caves" you must first (obviously) open the game. To do that, click here or here. We recommend Google Chrome, and Apple's Safari also works. Take note that many common web browsers such as Mozilla Firefox and Microsoft's Internet Explorer cannot play HatPC. If you do not normally use a compatible browser, you can click here to learn how to create a shortcut to open HATPC quickly from the browser of your choice.

If the game does not begin loading, then you might need to download shockwave. If you're lucky, this might begin automatically, or maybe, you'll just have to click a few links to get it to work. But if you're unlucky, well, downloading shockwave is a common stumbling block for people aspiring to play HATPC. It is even possible you get a Shockwave Error or another error when loading the game. For more some advanced troubleshooting, click here. Or you can post below, asking for help with starting HATPC, and we'll try our best to help you get the game up and running. You'll need an Interguild account to do this. If you don't have one, click here and fill out the required fields. If you have trouble signing up, contact Livio via email and he'll be happy to assist you.

After the game loads, you may be asked whether or not you want to "Play Game", "Login", or "Sign Up". If it does, this means that you are not logged in to Neopets. You do not need to be logged in to play the game, so you can just click "Play Game". However you will need to be logged in if you wish to upload your own levels or have your high-scores be saved. If you wish to take advantage of the game's members-only features, click here to login to Neopets, or, alternatively, click here to create an account with Neopets if you do not already have one. If you click those links within the HatPC window, those links will open within said window, and you may end up having to reload the game.

Once the game's home menu is up you have four options. Click "Play Game" to play the main game's levels, click "Load User Level" to play a user-made level, click "Options" to adjust your sound and background settings, or click "Cave of the Week" to play the cave Neopets thought was the best this week.

I might add an image later, but this should be good enough.
I split this from CSD's Tutorial 1 walkthrough because it didn't really have anything to do with Tutorial 1.

I think it would be better if we renamed this to "Starter's Guide to Hannah and the Pirate Caves" b/c right now the title implies that it's going to teach me about how to open HATPC

"This article should include a link to load HATPC, a description of where else you can open the game on the interguild, and a link to TNT's HATPC game page. Then, the article needs to go over which browsers can and can't play HATPC and which browsers can and can't load user-levels (if there's a difference, 'cause I don't remember the specifics on that), and it should also link to where you can download a couple browsers that are capable of both (and maybe link to the short-cut article?). Also, we need to mention that you need shockwave, that you can usually just follow some links to download and install it, but if not, give instructions on how to uninstall your current version of shockwave and then reinstall the newest version (or at least link to an official page that gives those instructions). Maybe also mention that recurring shockwave crash that people seem to be getting? If they have trouble loading HATPC, tell them that they can post on the forums asking us for help, so link to the "how to post" and "how to sign up articles". Now, if you'd like to be able to upload caves caves (link to first cavemaking article) or send score (link to scoring article) you'll need a Neopets account, so tell them how to get one of those too. Once the game loads, if you're not logged in, you'll have to click play game in order to get to the main menu. Finally, instructions on how to work each of the various options afforded to you on the main menu, including how to start playing the game, how to unlock the later levels, what each of the options do, how to play user levels, and where to go to get the usernames to type in (either from the level's creator of from the cavelist). Perhaps a mention of HATIC, and the differences with starting that game, include the absence of the random shockwave crash and user-levels? Could end up being a long article."

From the article discussion board in the Staff Forum. This is what this article should contain, if anybody wants to write it.

This article already contains everything mentioned there, except the link to the Neopets game page and the Shockwave Error that sometimes occurs.

That's exactly what this article teaches.

Edit:
Added the link to the game page and added a bit about the Shockwave Error you might get when opening the window.

Even though it includes all of that, it's kinda just in summary form, and I'd prefer it were more drawn-out, with images and stuff.

actually there are a ton of issues to deal with like downloading shockwave, making sure your browser works with the game, etc...

I'm starting to think that we should call this "the HATPC technical guide" or something

ok we need to rename this article. Either rename it to "Loading Hannah and the Pirate Caves" or to something like "The HATPC Technical Issues Guide"

I just edited this article to contain better paragraphing, a slight update to the section on browsers, and instead of linking them to the forums if they need help, I made it say "post below".

alright, lots of people can't open up HATPC because the loading screen gives them shockwave errors. Let's try to figure out how to get around this already.

I have one computer in which HATPC does work, and one that doesn't work. In the one that doesn't work, I tried redownloading shockwave, trying all browsers, and that didn't work. anyone have any other possible leads?

Well, for me, it started right after I deleted my temporary internet files. Once it worked again, I haven't deleted those files, and it hasn't gone away since. That's what I thought at one point, anyway, but I honestly have no idea anymore. But, I guess you could try a different account on your computer? I don't know, but I vaguely remember hearing people having success trying that?

I'm not sure if this is sarcasm or stupidity (we're talking about Livio, you can't be too sure), but either way I laughed.

lol, but krotomo said "one that plays hatpc on no browsers"
not that I think it's possible, unless you have the link to the shockwave file, so it opens it in some kind of Shockwave player? Maybe I have to remind myself that shockwave isn't flash.
