There are many cool things you can do with Super Mario Flash codes! This guide will show only some things you can do!

If you want to see what you can do with SMF codes, you should just make a new level. Don't do anything to it, it will be your test level. simply leave it as it is. The background, the size, everything. Don't add anything.

Take your level code. Look aroung through your code until you find the name of your level, which should be "my level name" if you followed what I said. Once you find that part of the code, look at it. It should say

Code:
my level name,1,40,220,1,4500,)

Those numbers mean different things about the main section of the level. The "my level name" is the title of your level, and through your code, unlike the level editor, you can make your title as long as you want, but it will go off screen if it is too long.

The first "1" is what background the level willl have. You can change your background in the middle of making a level which can be good.

1= Land
2= Cave
3= Forest
4= Castle
5= Snow
6= Ghost

If you put any number that is not above, instead of a background, there will be black nothing and everything will be gone. Yes, that includes the floor.

Goodbye, Mario!

The 40 means how many pixels away Mario/Luigi starts from the left end of the level. So if you do 0, you will start right at the left end of the level, witch is actually in a 1-tile wide area in which normally you can't enter. You can actually start inside of blocks using this, which I find pretty cool.

The 220 is how many pixes from the top of the level you will start. If you put 0, you will start at the very top. If you put a number that is too high, you will end up starting in or below the ground, which will kill you. Just like before, you can start inside a tile by using this.

My favorite part. The second 1 controls the music played in the background. You can use this to put in music that you cannot get by using the level editor.

00=No Music
01=Overworld 1
02=Overworld 2
03=Athletic Theme
04=Map 1
05=Underworld
06=Castle
07=Boss
08=Map 2
09=Starman
10=Level Completed
11=Boss Completed
12=No music
13+=No music

I copied this list from one of Jazz's posts because I didn't know the song titles.

Finally, the 4500 is how many pixels long the levels is, except it's +320. I don't know what the reason for that is, but it will probably be found soon. So if you put 2000 there, the level will be 1680 pixels long.

Then finally, if you want edit the bonus zone, go to the end of the level. But instead, look for the first time it sais level. There maybe be only one, but there may be many. try to find the first one, and the numbers after that will mean the same things as the ones for the main level.

There are many things you can do with SMF codes, so maybe you can try to find even more cool things!
But if you do something wrong, uhh, this might happen.

That's my guide. If there are any mistakes, please let me know.

Wow. Somebody actually wrote a blog post! Livio's hard work wasn't for nothing!
It neat that this game has a lot of the same things going on in it as HATPC level codes. I'd be nice if you would fill it out with more things, if they exist. I remember hearing that you could get invisible blocks? With a clean-up, this could probably be the first SMF guide.

Hey Livio. Karma buttons doesn't work.

fixed. And for browsing purposes, what if I made a blog post called "How to unlock more music for your SMF levels", and I just link to this post and tell people to look about half way down? Or would it just be better to make a better summary for this post?

Hey. You didn't copy. You used it with permission. Also, I'll try to get enemy and tile codes up soon.

By the way, I just want to remind everyone that this doesn't have to be the official "how to use SMF level codes" guide that we'll be linking to. For now it is, but if someone makes a better guide, I can push this one off the "Super Mario Flash Guides" list, and put up the better one.

Please don't. The current Hidden Block abundance is already bad enough. Hidden warps and invisotiles will only make them only worse.

You should make a Smf guide for dummies like me so I can grasp a basic understanding of this game. You seem to know what you're doing.

speaking of HATPC glitches, we need to start writing guides about them. They don't have to be very long, as long as they explain the full glitch. For example, someone could write a guide about how if you push boulders at the right time, you can either destroy or dodge the arrow without destroying the boulder. I imagine such a guide being only about a paragraph long and with some pictures.

Woops. New glitch. If you add an object that is set to go past the current level boundaries, Mario will be slung over into the unknown and die.
