IO 2011 - Minecraft Monument

Authors: Quirvy, Livio

Description:
This is a monument for our IO Team. This little piece of modern art was designed entirely by Quirvy, and because he doesn't have Minecraft, it was put together by Livio. Some people were confused when they first saw this, so just let me stress that this is just a monument; it's not trying to be a skyscraper.

Great
There is something about this that makes cool, despite the fact that it is so simple.

Livio, you should get screenshots from different angles, because the monument looks different from other places. The Spiral design is less obvious in this angle. It still looks cool from that angle, though.

The reason for this is because it's designed to not be too much of the same thing.

Wondering how it was entirely designed by me?

How we made it below:

I mentioned to Livio that I had an idea for a monument we could build in honor of our team. After some discussion, I eventually posted this:

Spoiler:

We discussed some of the details about it, mainly where to build it, and Livio proposed an area near where it is. I suggested that it be built in an area more likely to be surrounded by buildings in the future so that it would have a better impact, and suggested a location, which Livio misinterpreted(I wanted it to be in the water body to the southeast(according to that really big map he made) of where he made it, but his location might actually work out a little bit better)

He then started actually making it and gave me updates every once in a while:
Spoiler:

Then we moved on to trying to figure out what to do with the top portion of the monument, because it looked to bland. The initial plan was to use windows(which lit up at night), but it didn't fit in in the windowless monument. Then we tried getting rid of the windows and having it be indents, then we tried making the center of the indents light grey and putting torches in them, which still looked off (to me at least). I then suggested that we extend the antenna into the building, and Livio added extra torches to the indents, even though I intended for the indents to be removed when I suggested the new change to him. Then I decided that the best thing to do would be to raise the 4th section and everything above it by 1 block, and change the top of the 4th section to what it is now.

Screenshots of the many versions of the top inside:
Spoiler:

It's also worth mentioning that when I initially came up with the idea, I used minecraft classic to make a midget version of it. I think that when I first made it, it was all the same color, and it didn't have a spiral leading up. I realized it looked too bland and made alternating colors, and then eventually came up with the "spiral staircase" leading up the tower.

After three years, I decided to go back to the original location and found it in the following state:

Spoiler:

The Monument has actually been moved, but that other building, was Quirvy's design for the City of Lakes Council House. This was back before Quirvy had Minecraft, so he designed it in Paint (I think?) and he would PM me the blueprints so that I could build it. I guess the designed turned out to be more claustrophobic than expected.

Anyway, now that Quirvy has minecraft, he's completed the City of Lakes, which rests on the outskirts of Spawn City, towards the direction of San Notch:
