Anyways, I made it for Kooler and I but hopefully more people than just us will participate.

Hmmm... seems like a good idea, but I think the Interguild chat-box isn't that bad actually. On many forums with chat, I've often seen some kind of "java" chat-box. There's just a sound when someone posts a new post in the chat-box. The post instantly appears and you don't have to refresh the page to see the posts. If something like this would be here, then that IRC wouldn't make much sense, but I doubt after over 4 years of seeing that chat-box here it's going to change. :p But most of them were some amator-forums, so I guess nothing's difficult in doing something like that.

I agree with Teo.  I don't really see a reason for the IRC, and it only takes people away from using the actual site if they want to chat.

Well, look at how many posts the chatbox gets a day. Also, you guys complain if we actually have a conversation in the chatbox and generate chatbox activity.

I think the chatbox receives less posts because of general inactivity (towards chatting without a set topic) and the lack of automatic updates.

Just a note, when you post logs or whatever, please remove the IP addresses from your post. Not that any of us could really do anything with them (besides Thomas, who could make his avatar appear as a specific image to you), but you still probably shouldn't be posting other member's IP addresses on here.

How is this different to the chatbox and why would we want to divert our members away from the site?

@jebby: This isn't actually diverting the members away from the site, as it is not actually another site but is a channel hosted on irc://, which is different from http://. Also, this has been done on the Universe Sandbox forum and actually increased the activity over about a year by nearly threefold. It brought the community closer together than I have ever seen any other community, even here.

@jebby: The chatbox doesn't update automatically, and has a tiny region of text so it's almost impossible to have high activity because the previous posts will disappear within five minutes.

@FlashMarsh: It boosts activity if people actually use it, and this is the first non-game topic in a while with activity anyways.

The one problem that I have is that you can't see anything that was said from before you got on.

I have not done so, but it doesn't sound like something that would become interguild official, as it is uncensored
