the setting is denny's beer barrel pub, located in clearfield, pennsylvania. this pub would probably have fallen into complete obscurity, due to the existence of the vastly more popular fast food chain also named denny's, if not for its insistence on keeping the record for the world's largest burger.

in order to drum up publicity and profits, they would hold challenges. one challenge involved consuming something called a a "ye old 96er" (sadly the numbers are not reversed), which appears to weigh 9lb in total, 6lb of which consists of the ground beef patty. one of the contenders was "quirvy." he lost.
