Yup. Beautiful landscape shots with dat ULTRA PANAVISION 70. Some of the splatter gore stuff felt a little unnecessary though. He was more discreet about that stuff back in the day, like with Reservoir Dogs. Now he's like "**** it, I'm Quentin Tarantino, I can do whatever the hell I want." His protracted scenes are still awesome - slowly rising tension as the characters sit around subtly threatening each other until everyone starts shooting. Quality stuff.

Yeah, this was brilliant.

Anyone seen Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas? It's based of a Hunter S Thomson book, and It's definitely one of my favourite movies of all time

I've never seen it, nor even heard of it. I heard The 5th Wave is coming out soon or came out recently. I haven't seen it but based on the trailer it looks pretty good. It's basically about an alien invasion, from what I understand.  

I read the book, it's alright but just sorta standard teen science fiction. I'm guessing the movie will be enjoyable but like nothing really special

On Saturday I saw a movie called "Cyrano de Bergerac". It was in French, so I had to watch it with English subtitles, but it was really cool, especially the duel at the beginning. Anyone seen it? If not I recommend it. 10/10, would watch again.

I saw Les Aventures extraordinaires d'Adèle Blanc-Sec which is also in French but I didn't realize til about a quarter of the way through so ??? but it was pretty good

I saw Deadpool the other day that was pretty funny. I liked the fourth wall breaks and how it kinda made fun of typical movie clichés and all.

Just got back from seeing Get Out, the new horror flick that Peele (from Key & Peele) directed. Absolutely fantastic. As kro (I think) put it, the movie is a perfect combination of psychological horror, comedy, and a social commentary. Its score on Rotten Tomatoes is entirely accurate of how good this movie is.

You know all of those "literary devices" that they teach you about in English class? The ones you figure are utterly pointless to know about in real life? Well... this is one of those times when I am seriously grateful to have learned about how to apply them. Not just to literature, but to art in general, because this movie really is a work of art. The story was extremely well-crafted, and there was a huge amount of symbolism, foreshadowing, etc. that really made it a memorable experience. Very, very well done, and I'd highly recommend you guys check it out if you have any interest in the genre.

I'm not really a horror guy. But I saw Logan yesterday at the first showing and it is excellent. I don't think its Rotten Tomatoes score quite does it justice, actually, since most of the negative reviews just seem to be complaints about the tone of the movie, which I see as more of a problem with the reviewer than the movie. The best X-men movie bar none, and quite possibly the best superhero movie since The Dark Knight.

I saw The Boy and the Beast recently which was very good. Reminded me of Spirited Away a little bit. Great characters, ridiculously beautiful animation, and it's quite moving.

I saw Jumanji (the new one) a few weeks ago. I recommend it. They took a group of talented actors and had them each act like someone they weren't. Also, you know any movie with both The Rock and Amy Pond in it with music from Henry Jackman is gonna be good.

I saw two movies lately in between thesis work.
1. Baywatch (2017)
The rock is a huge dude indeed, but this movie is super bad. Bad plot, all trying to be sexylike etc, comes out pathetic and uninteresting. Don't.

2. The wall (2017)
Brilliant.
This movie features like, 2 characters only, and 1 set, yet this war film is great. The overall plot is very simple and yet sophisticated and interesting. Do.

I saw a movie last week called The Prisoner of Zenda (the 1937 version). It was great— about as good as Casablanca, in my opinion. The best things about the movie were the acting, which was very convincing, and the plot, which was like that of Casablanca in that you couldn't predict exactly what was going to happen; it kept you guessing until the very end. Also, there were two heroes and two villains, and the interests of both the heroes or both the villains didn't always align. Another neat thing about it was that some things were understood without being said; the actors portrayed a lot just through gestures and facial expressions.
