To break the suspense right away: Mymop wins, then yaya, then atvelonis. Those three were really good. I especially liked yaya's, but overall I do feel that mymop is most deserving of the award.

Now for some judging/justification for the results.

So lets start with some guidelines:
Ugly/Noob (30 pts) - How ugly is it, and how much does it embody the buildstyle of a noob?
Plausible (20 pts) - How plausible is it that a noob could have legitimately built this?

Krotomo:
Ugly/Noob - The pattern by the front is really bad. The flagpole is particularly abominable. The glass roof isn't necessarily a terrible thing but with the flagpole sitting on it, it is a terrible thing. The diamond/gold floor pattern is something I could definitely see a noob doing, since they're like the flashy/valuable blocks. Same with the gold throne. The moat is also really stupid. And the ground floor is bad, too.  However, the overall design isn't actually that bad, structurally, and as a result the exterior doesn't actually look all that bad from a distance. 23/30

Plausible - I think you lose a good amount of points here. You're really stretching the noob thing almost too far. The moat, isn't a moat at all. Any noob would be smart enough to actually complete the moat so that it encircles the castle. Nobody is so stupid that they would allow a landbridge to remain over a part of the moat. That's just silly. Similarly, the secret escape tunnel falls short because of how blatantly it leads to the front yard. That seems too stupid. Even a noob wouldn't do that, gotta put it in the backyard. The ground floor is also one of the things that are so bad that no one would ever actually try that. 8/20

+5 for the floating tree

Overall: 36/50

Soccerboy:
First let's get this out of the way:
-10 for submitting something that's not a building
+10 for making your entry not a building (noob points)

Ugly/Noob - The floor is really bland and empty, but other than that I actually like this build as something silly. It's not actually that bad. In the noob category you score some points for spawning a bunch of pigmen who despawned, but it's still not much 9/30

Plausible - I don't really know how to rate this. It's plausible that someone could make it, but I don't think it's really as plausible for a noob to have made this since I think it's a little too advanced. Sure, the plain floors and walls, but the lava pit is pretty well done, as is the actual dude in the center, and the 4 towers around the garden. 8/20

Overall: 17/50

mymop:
Ugly/Noob: So this design is certainly something special. It's so chaotic that it's actually kind of cool to look at. I like that it looks like the overall design wasn't given consideration while it was being built. I also like the very basic/plain oak wood and glass scheme. The whole diving board thing is pretty noobish as well. The interior is pretty well decorated in a bit of a noobish way, but at the end of the day it doesn't look too horrendous. I give this a 26/30

Plausible: I cant really think of any aspect of this that I couldn't see a noob doing. You didn't really take it too far anywhere. 20/20

overall: 46/50

Yaya:
Ugly/noob - my goodness, there is a lot going on in this house. Like, A LOT. So right off the bad, the building is sort of shaped like a really weird head - really wide, eyes far apart... It's primarily brick with redstone lamp roof and red wool wall around the property, and a prismarine road leading up to it. Yellow windows. The door isn't a door upward facing logs in the lobby. Paintings everywhere. Beds all over the place on the first floor. The chicken over the fire is named "Winner Winner" (chicken dinner). Glowstone/slime block chandelier. Quadruple ladder at the top of stairs. We got an anvil over a random diamond block. Flowers placed on grass blocks. Cacti with cake on them. A random boat. Redstone blocks around the side windows, glass dock by the ocean in the backyard, and a big change in version type between chunks in the backyard. In a snowy biome. This is truly madness. I really do appreciate the absolute craziness that is this build. It's like you were playing minecraft, but they only had wood and stone, and then they released an update with everything else, and you just don't know quite what to do with yourself because now you have so much to work with now and you just need to try it all out. 30/30

Plausible - While the block type overload is definitely plausible, I think the actual design is a little bit advanced, even if it isn't a good design. I'm also not entirely sure how you managed to get those leaves to stay in your wall - I thought they despawned if there weren't any logs nearby and I don't see any? No points off, I just don't get that. I probably just don't know or forgot some case. 15/20

overall 45/50

Rocketguy:

Ugly/Noob - well it ain't pretty, but it also aint much, so I can't really assign to much. The structure itself is pretty standard, you pretty much just made it out of random materials to try to make it look bad. 15/30
Plausible - no one in his right mind would ever legitimately make such a building. 0/20

Overall: 15/50

Atvelonis:

Ugly/Noob - well done. Architecturally, this is a catastrophe. You have brought down the property value of the entire desert. Hella tamed wolves. Cacti. Funky furnace room. Random empty areas. Like with mymop, I liked the whole thing where there appears to be no design, and rather it was built from the inside out. This one more reminds me of soccer's first house in survival. I thought your interior was worse than mymops, but overall you still do lose a couple points for some empty areas. 28/30

Plausible - It's mostly plausible, but again, if we look at how little thought was given the overall design, and that it was driven by the interior, this build seems a little unlikely given how empty the building is. This is a building where each room would have to have a purpose. Nice job putting stuff in those chests and with the tunnel to the mine, though. 15/20

Overall: 43/50

In case anyone was wondering, the rational behind the chicken was that a noob wouldn't know how to cook food so they'd try exposing live mobs to fire in order to cook them. I won't self-aggrandize myself too much, but I'd like to think my house has a nice surrealist bent to it. Also I was significantly aiming more for the plausible ugliness than plausible noobiness. "Noob" was never mentioned in the original competition post, so I was mainly try to make an ugly house without forcing a noobish mindset. I'd like to think the house could just as easily be made by an experienced builder who became caught up in trying to be different and pretentious. It's sort of a self-aware next logical step from trying to out-weird my mesa outpost. PS: Did you go in the basement?

I sadly never got around to visiting any of the other entries besides Soccer's. I'm definitely gonna check out Mymop's though. I think Atvelonis's is kind of amazing from what I've seen in the screenshots. I feel like Shrek could live there. I'll have to go to the desert though to get a full view of the building's effect on the surroundings.

Good job everyone. Good job spurring some activity Quirvy. I know the theme wasn't too intimidating so that helped a lot. Maybe we should try a moderately more serious MC comp in the future? It's the only remotely active part of the site right now, and even if we wound up with half as many entries as this comp, that'd still be A LOT of activity by recent standards. IDK

Yeah, I forgot that I didn't include that. It doesn't really change much, though, since a build being noobish is part of being ugly, really. Which is why I didn't make being noobish it's own category. That's not why you didn't win, though. If I'm honest it's probably more like the scores were awarded based on how I felt the entries should do, rather than I rated them and ranked them. I wanted there to be a pretty decently thorough review of each building so I chose that style. For a more brief explanation of rankings:

1. Mymop - I really thought that what brought this over the top was how easily I could see someone making this.
2. Yaya - Initially I didn't like it because I thought it ws violating the "reasonable materials" criteria, which it is a little, but then when judging it I gained an appreciation of it, and really loved the insanity it was build from. But I felt that at the end of the day the design was actually too well done
3. Atvelonis - Initially I really loved his, even more than mymops, but I didn't want to reward him because he was late and this seemed pretty similar to mymops. That led to me looking at it more critically, and eventually I realized that his build was different structurally, but that it was pretty empty, and because of that it looked more like he went out of his way to make the external design look bad, which made it look a bit forced to me (vs mymop's which looked like it was legitimately build from the inside out, and yours which was an external design which was then filled out)
4. Kroto - He really fell short because too much of his build was so stupid that I found it hard to believe someone could accidentally do some of that stuff.
5. Soccer - his looked too good (plus it wasn't actually a building)
6. rocket guy - his looked bad, but it was a tiny shack and severely violated criteria 2 and 3 that I provided
Quote:
2. This should look like something that someone would legitimately without intending to make it look like crap
3. This ties back into 2 a little, but favor will be given to buildings that look ugly while using reasonable materials

7. Flashmarsh - scumlord guyguy forgot to submit his entry f- 0/10

I did miss your basement entirely. I went back and checked it out, and it doesn't change anything.

I was thinking about doing a reverse to this one, where you guys then took your crappy builds and made them nice, but I'm pretty sure that wouldn't work well at all. If you have any ideas, feel free to make a comp, but you should probably allow for a generous window to build in, like I did.

I wasn't complaining about the placing. My original description for the level was pretty sparse by my standards and your breakdown of my entry motivated me to explain where I was coming from and reminded me of some things I could wax poetically about. Expecting retroactive changes in the competition results would just be idiotic, I just didn't want people missing the basement. I'm fine with the results

Flashmarsh actually made something? Coords?

IDK offhand, all I know is that it's pretty close to spawn. He made two monstrosities, actually.

The story behind mine was that I tried to make a serious build.

Here are some of my thoughts on the entries.

Actually, I think the moat and the escape tunnel look a lot like some of the things I made in my early days. For example, in the first house I ever built, the escape tunnel came up about 10 blocks away from the front door. As for the moat, on my first castle the moat only went about halfway around the building.

I also like the very basic/plain oak wood and glass scheme.

I chose to make mine out of oak planks and glass because that's what all noobs build things out of, especially back before version 1.2.3 (I think); before that update the only type of plank was oak.
I didn't really like Yaya's (no offense), because it just didn't seem like something a noob would build, in my opinion. A lot of the materials were things a noob playing on Survival either wouldn't know how to craft or wouldn't have enough of to build something out of it. It was very ugly though.
Atvelonis' entry was my favorite. The mostly empty interior (probably) wasn't just him being lazy; when he and I were noobs, we used to build things and make the interior either full of random crap or almost completely empty.
All in all, this was a fun competition for me.

One of my monstrosities I think has been destroyed because it was huge, hideous and very near spawn. The other smaller one I THINK is the weird, dumb mudhut with a caveman in it, with the entrance made of multiple doors covered in jukeboxes. (maybe someone else made this but I think this was me)

By the way, my VERY late submission is the Whole Of YugCity. Thank you
