If you are not DACUSing or 360 Falcon Punching all across the field for 8 minutes long, you are not playing to have fun.

I was born too late- or at least started playing video games too late to experience any truly hard games. The closest is Super Monkeyball Deluxe on my PS2, but that borders on just luck, not skill. What if they made a video game with today's visuals and complexities, but still made it crazily challenging? I think that'd be neat at least, but some people like and even prefer (jell) the old graphics I guess.

3rd gen (NES) was close to impossible, but 4th and 5th gen to some extend (SNES, N64, PSX) were merely challenging. The final worlds in games such as Donkey Kong Country and Super Mario World were of about equal difficulty as most levels on this site.
And there are some indie producers that make modern Nintendo Hard games. Take Super Meat Boy, for example. Though it appears that most indie producers try to emulate the old PC games instead of the old console games. Many, many roguelikes and dungeon crawlers. Not that I'm complaining, roguelikes are a pretty awesome genre.

Yeah... I probably won't buy it. Sure, it's taking place in the future, but it'll probably be a run-of-the-mill cookie cutter FPS. Does anyone here own/play Borderlands? Cuz, I've heard good things about it/it's future sequel and I've got some left over B-day cash.
(On a completely random note, I was staring at your slideshow thing in your signature, Bmwsu. Are you really a Ranger's Apprentice fan, lol? I think I stopped after the 4th book about 3-4 years ago, I think, but it made me chuckle that 1.) Someone (you) may keep up with them and 2.) That IC has such an obscure user bar choice)

I'll probably buy BlOps 2 just for the heck of it. I know that I just keep the beast going, but I still enjoy CoD, and for a couple 100s of hours of gameplay it is worth it, IMO. I don't play it like I played MW2, which I got the February it came out, and a month after I got my PS3. I logged something like 12 complete days into the multiplayer, and a couple days into Special Ops to get the trophies.
As for your Borderlands question, yes, I do own it. I've played through it the first time and almost the second with Lithl (SP?) and Roland, and just once with Mordecai and Brick. I would play it more, online, if I had friends that played it.
It is fun, and for the $30 you can get it for, it's a good, solid play. Obviously, there's the bajillion guns, but for the time it was released and such, it is/was a good refresher. It's not like it's just another FPS; it's kind of a classic. It brought new stuff to a shoot-em-up game, if I understand correctly. The biggest complaints I've heard is that the colors are a bit brown-leaning, with need for a more diversity of colors, and that there is virtually no character development. Then again, I think that that is one of the reasons why it was fun. Unlike other FPS's, it didn't really try and pull you in emotionally. The story line was what the game was about, yes, but it wasn't compelling or deep.
As for Borderlands 2, it is definitely something that I'd recommend getting. Firstly, the first one was good in itself, but it seemed like they could have expanded to it, maked it bigger. As far as I know, the 2nd game will be better than the old one.
(In response to the completely random note, I read something like 9 of the books a few years ago, and I liked them, for the most part. I don't keep up with them, or anything. I figured I'd just throw that in the userbar slideshow for the fun of it. Another example is Kingdom Hearts, which is also in there. I rarely play it, but I still know about it and don't mind it. ([Two of] my sisters plays/fangirls it.))

I don't mean to be a killjoy but I'm really not a fan of COD. I didn't really like MW3 or BO1 and I think this looks worse. I think COD is getting worse and worse as time ticks by. Anyways, I hope you guys enjoy it.

Do you think that after 3 years of breaking records with CoD that Activision would just stop making game to the series that provides them the most income, and is 1 out of 3 franchises that provide them with the large majority of their profit.

I'm going to interrupt this Call of Duty talk by saying that I am absolutely getting screwed over in GTA 4's final mission right now.
If you haven't played the game, or gotten to the final mission(I did the deal), basically, you chase these guys (for a good amount of time) to some abandoned building, kill a bunch of people in a shootout, and then chase this guy(who is on a helicopter) on a boat, and then at some point some guy picks piloting another helicopter will try to pick you up in some cutscene, both parties end up crashing on an island, you and end up in a disorganized shootout.
I recently thought I'd try to beat GTA 4 again, cuz I haven't played it in a long time, and I breezed through everything. But then this final mission came along.
(there's this little checkpoint after the initial car chase, so if you fail the mission after the car chase, you don't have to do it again)
Here's what's happened to me on this final mission so far:
Try 1: Successful car chase, got through the shootout fine, get onto boat, as I'm getting onto boat, RPG from helicopter comes out of nowhere and destroys me and my boat before I can do anything.
Try 2: Shootout is a breeze, get onto boat fine, stay back from the helicopter a little bit so that the RPGs being shot from it don't hit me, it's apparently too much and I'm not able to make the transition from boat to helicopter in time.
Try 3: Shootout is a breeze, there are 2 boats, I figure maybe the one I took last time was slower, so I take the other on. "You abandoned your boat"
Try 4: Only have about 1/4 (1/8 if you count armor as health) left, die in shootout
Try 5: Do shootout, successfully get from boat to helicopter, as I take control of helicopter, RPG shot from other helicopter immediately hits me, causing my heli to flip over. I take too long to regain control from having a flipped over helicopter, and the other heli gets away.
My health is kind of low, so I figured, I better replenish it before I retry from checkpoint again. But then before I can do that, I apparently took too long, and the mission started from scratch, because it's a mission that just gets automatically started. And that's where I am right now. I plan on finishing this game, even if I'm getting repeatedly screwed over!
Edit:
Try 6: See: Try 1
Try 7: Success

For Xbox 360slim controllers, I hate how hard it is to have your thumb on the right analog stick while having your index finger on the right bumper. maybe it's because my hands are somewhat small but I dunno. | | Yaya |

On my PS2 I used to turn so sharply in racing games and Super Monkey Ball that my left analog stuck is permanently shifted to the left by like a fraction of an inch. Now it's even harder to play Super Monkey Ball since it the monkey will start rolling automatically.

lol I only have a PC to play video games on. I'm not sure if I'd enjoy learning to use controllers, I'm just so used to using the mouse and keyboard.

My laptop is too slow for PC gaming, sadly. D: Most of the games I'd get for my laptop (if it weren't that slow) are available for other consoles I already have though. | | jellsprout |
