Or, I guess what I really want to know is: what hasn't changed?

I see the average age hasn't changed, and yet I and a few others have grown older. Gosh, I just freakin shaved this morning...

Err, let's see, CSD is still here. Wow, really? Quirvy too. You guys haven't ripped your hair out staying here all these years?! Ah, children are intolerable, except perhaps among their peers. Seems like that fact of life hasn't changed.

Well, me. Let's see... What hasn't changed is that I'm still dabigkid. I still have dark hair; I'm still relatively a tall person. I'm still somewhat a nerd. Still live in New Jersey. My middle name is still Warren.

I still stay up way past my bedtime. Heh.

But, I guess other than those facts, I've changed a lot. But haven't we all?

I was reminded of you guys today when magickgeniegirl-- I still talk to her on AIM, but just barely-- asked me to look at something on Neopets. And this began the journey penultimately reaching this site (and finally, I hope, my bed o_o;,).

I still kind of keep in contact with Karen... gosh. I don't even remember her freakin Neopets username. I just know her by Karen now. I also added soccerboy on Facebook a while ago but I guess he deleted me as friends. (I actually have 3 people from this guild as friends on Facebook. Gina WOULD be a fourth but I've spited her so much from me begging her to get a Facebook that she won't add me. Also, she thinks I'm a creep. That probably helps, too.) Turtlemoo... I would keep in contact with her more but she doesn't really use AIM anymore. I have her on Facebook but I always feel like contacting her on AIM for some reason.

Gonna be a senior in high school next year, for the curious.

It's very surprising! Well, at least to me. Most places I lurk on the Internet these days, you're not even allowed to be less than 13.

I guess there's this expectation for the average age at places to keep going up as the members grow up... but that's never the case! New, young members always come in and drag down the average age. And at the same time, we older people get annoyed at you little 'uns, or we just get bored... and we leave.

Hello dabigkid!

It's always nice to have new members come around (the Interguild been growing, but very, very slowly) and nicer still when they're returning members.

The content of the site (Hannah and the Pirate Caves, mostly) justifies accommodating younger members, I'd say, but in spite of that, half or so of our active members are around your age. There are a few you'll probably remember from a couple years ago, as well.

Anyway, welcome! Hope you stay a while. I'd go into what's changed since you left, but I'm sure there are some other members who will have much more to say than I would.

Welcome back, DBK - it's nice to see a veteran coming back to see what's going on. Well, HATPC is supported by a lot of facilities now such as an interactive cave database, various guides and a huge video walkthrough section.

Most of the members are aged 10-13, but the mods and admins are generally 16+. We're currently looking to attract an older audience.

And if you can get some of the older cavers through AIM to come in and have a look, that'd be great!

EDIT: I've got used to shaving - lol, it makes me feel like a man when I have stubble... until I get nagged to take it off.

DBK!??

The young members can be bad at times, like cedric's ekehasa2, and then neezles trying to break the record for time online(fail), but luckily, we have Dando, Jebby, and CSD to humor us.

Hey, wait a sec; how'd you know Quirvy was here, now that my username is Georgia?

You still have some contact with some of the oldies?

Is karen Kario? I don't remember. I don't even think I knew their real names. That guild was a while ago, and you guys dropped like flies after the merge happened. I remember, at first we had so much activity that you opened a forum for us... And then it got really dead. Kario gave up the guild to... CSD? or was it Jebby? I don't even know. And then the low point was us giving it to fungus' side account

I'm surprised you still manage to keep contact with some of the oldies; I'd have thought they would have completely moved on past the neopets and everyone they met there.

nope not karoia_gazel... I think Karen was _hogwarts_61.

They have moved past Neopets... well, not Magick. But everyone else has. Buuuuttt we haven't moved on past each other! OK, that sounded cliche.

They're definitely not gonna come back and I won't even bother trying to make them, haha. We all have lives completely detached from this place now.

idk how I knew you were here, Quirvy. I guess I'm just psychic?!

I'm not sure I've met you DBK. the only reason I recognize your name could be because csd uploaded all of your caves to the level database.

anyway welcome aboard.

I just kinda guessed Kario, because Karen, Kario. I don't think I really got to know names until the interguild started.

The only people I've really chatted with off the interguild(on AIM) would be fungus and florida/egruntz/zoink_yoink. No clue what happened to fungus.

Ahoy. I'm Isa, one of the few Europeans here. I'm a mod for whatever reason.

Take some time to explore some of our games, like N, Super Stacker 2 or Free Rider 2.

Welcome.

Awww, the level database is down right now.

I actually just spent like, an hour revamping one of my caves (IMO my best one). I vaguely remember doing some edits on it but the version I sent CSD-- and the only one I have saved-- wasn't the best one.

(For the curious, you can play it on dabigkid)

I looked around the site. The Zelda Classic thing looks cool. I watched part of a video of CSD's level for that, and woooowwwww. I see he's still really good at designing levels. I want to play it :<

It's not exactly down, you just need to change the URL from galleries to levels. We're such a professional site

Well, damn. I can't edit my levels in the database. Unless there's a completely intuitive professional way to do that, too?

And thanks for the compliment It's really my only really really good level, I think.

This level is much better than Route Canal, I got past the ladder trap, which was actually pretty badly timed, and the died on a jump shortly after

Someone oughta make a walkthrough of this.

What, my level? Haha I thought I designed it to be pretty straightforward.

excuse the white lines. I just zoomed out looking at this: http://tehmarz.com/cavesearch/map.php?user=dabigkid

oh, when drawing my line, near the beginning i forgot a treasure chest. it's pretty obvious.

Lol, you didn't need to give us all of that. It actually is pretty straightforward, IMO. Then again, I designed the Midnight Series, so what do I know about straightforward caves?

But, seriously, it's not that hard to find the paths. Just requires some thought.

Welcome back! Lol, stay a little longer this time? Last time you were here for like a week and then you disappeared again. And if you ever get the notion to do any cavemaking, maybe you might try out the cavemaker that I made? It'd be in the "New Cavemaker" thread of the HATPC forum.

this topic reminds me of a newsletter of an abandoned fanclub from the 60s. you see how all of the names are just casually dropped into the text, as if everyone who reads it will meet them with a sense of recognition - but for you they mean nothing. you understand on a conceptual level that all of these people had their separate lives - before, during, and after the fanclub's existence - but you only catch a glimpse of the middle.

you're often irritated by 'where are they now' retrospectives at the end of tv finales. you don't want to know that the valiant hero whose adventures you followed for ten years settles into a comfortable routine in suburbia with his wife and two children. you don't want to know that the wife is susan when you know that he never wrapped up that deal with the beautiful princess shosaerys. you don't want to know that he dies his in sleep at the age of 73 of an undiagnosed aneurysm.

you'd rather believe that he goes on having adventures forever.

but with these people, these names - warren, karen, gina - you get a hint of nostalgia for something that you never experienced. among those names could easily have been yours. what inside jokes did they share between them? did they keep track of each other's timezones, waiting for the school bell to ring in, say, maryland, so that their dear friend will appear online again, on that remnant of web 1.0 design known as the neoboards, permanently monitored by the watchful eye of the neopets team. all of this under the background tracks of usher, alicia keys and maroon 5 who ruled the billboard charts of the year 2004.

you suddenly want to catch up with old friends that you've never met. this must be the feeling that drives historians. but what's the use? these aren't the bright young things, or nicholas bourbaki. they're just a group of people who happened to come together at one point in spacetime and decided that they were important to each other. there must be millions of such groups. you're even a part of some of them.
