Alright guys
Here's our next project
Take an AI and let it learn hatpc by trial and error.
Eventually
Let it play stuff like NWUE2 for a while until it beats it

HatPC should be relatively easy to do. Score is strictly increasing and each objective you need to collect to advance in the level will increase the score, so the score is a nice objective to use. It is certainly better than using something like time alive, as that would simply lead to the AI just standing around doing nothing.
Basically what I would do is use a genetic algorithm. Genes would be "actions", with each action consisting of a combination of keys to press (or not press) and the time that these keys should be pressed.
At first the AI would start with only one single randomly generated action. Then when it reaches the end of its list of actions (which at first would be after the first action) it will randomly generate a new action. This continues until the AI dies. Then this is repeated with a fresh set of new randomly generated actions. After doing this a couple of times the different attempts are ranked based on the score they achieved and this is used to determine their likelihood of copying their actions to the next generation or to mutate their actions into entirely new ones.
Then the new generation has a set of actions to use at the start. Once they reach the end of their action list, they start randomly generating new actions as before and the entire process continues as before.
Unfortunately this result will likely cause a lot of standing still or aimlessly wandering around before the level is actually beat, so this could be improved by adding the time spend alive and distance traveled from the start as lower weight objectives to determine each attempt's fitness.
This is very easy to implement once you have a hook to read the score and input the actions. The downside as that the result can only be used to beat individual levels. For each new level you will have to retrain the AI again from scratch.

I don't think the score is relevant. It should only focus on the completion of the level. It has to be really smart to succeed, and should really start only with tutorial levels or something. It has to be able to understand what kills Hannah, and take a screenshot of the current position and decide what is dangerous and where it can go.
Just random movements brute Force to et it won't be enough I think

maybe we could try and make something similar to MarI/O by sethbling, but with HATPC
creating a map for the neural network would be rather easy, but I'm not sure how we'd make something similar to fitness

Give me a hook and I'll see what I can do, but if my AI can't actually read the game there is not much I can do.

How many of you, were you told this around 2010, would scoff at the idea of HB being the one who keeps the Interguild alive in 2018?

I find it kinda funny that the only impact I have made on the interguild prior to 2016-ish was being terrible at existence. There was nothing interesting about me for most of my existence on the interguild, just stereotypical cringy pre-teen
