Howard Zinn wrote a book that I had to read for AP US History called A People's History of the United States. It was a great book that basically tried to teach everyone the "forgotten" parts of our history, all of the ugly things that people don't really like to remember.

People don't like to see the things they don't want to see.

Uh, obvious statement is obvious? People don't like to eat/drink/see/smoke/consume/etc. things they don't want to eat/drink/see/smoke/consume/etc. in general, I'm pretty sure.
