From the shore of Inter-beach,
I heard a mournful wail.
I heard a grim beseech;
a scream beyond the pale.
"Quirvy, must thou leave me?
Quirvy, leavest me not."
But evident it was to me;
that Quirvy heard him not.
The voice that called was old to me,
though to a young man it belonged.
And recognized I too the "thee",
for whom he dearly longed.
"Quirvy, thou hast left me!
Thou swore to leave me not.
Undo your wrong - this is my plea!
Thy promise, thou forgot."
I left my house for Interbeach.
I knew who I would see.
Beside a rock, beyond my reach.
I saw him staring at the sea.
He yelled "Quirvy!" once more,
and jumped into the sea.
Soccerboy it was,
who jumped into the sea.
I could have intervened.
But it was not to be.
For I wanted him to be,
once more with his Quirvy.
His final resting place shall be the sea.
His soul shall join with those of cruising fish.
They'll eat their fill; the offspring of those fish,
Shall thank him, for it is because of him:
That they're alive, because their parents lived.
Instead of starved, and got to eat their fill.
And once the fish have gained their sapience,
in myth and hearsay will his selflessness,
be passed from fish to fish, and fish to reef.
The Interguild shall mourn,
They'll cry for this young man.
And most of all Quirvy,
For Quirvy was simply out of town for business.
