I made a new alpha version for you guys to play with. Not many new features in this one, but I made some physics tweaks and I fully implemented the ability to load user levels (from neopets.com for now).

Play it here: http://www.droidfreak36.com/HATPC/0_1_1/index.html

Changelog:
* Hannah will now be able to stand on ground 1 pixel further away from her, making it significantly easier to make jumps when aligned to the grid.
* Hannah will no longer hit her head on terrain 5 blocks above her
* Hannah is now less likely to collide with blocks from below (except for a 2 pixel wide hitbox), instead she will be horizontally pushed away from blocks she is inside. She is still unable to enter blocks from any direction but below.
* User level support! Note that many of the blocks aren't implemented, and boulders/stalactites aren't fully implemented yet.

Nice job, the improvements look good. Definitely looking forward to seeing user levels get built up more.

What's coming next? Like obviously eventually it will have all of the functionality of the original, but just what to expect in the near future

Hey, quick question. Does anyone have any user levels that work with this version?

Can you feel the struggle within?

I tried a couple of Harumbai's levels (Harumbaix and Harumbaiy), and one of krotomo's (kreotomo) that worked. However, moving past a spike on the same block as your head freezes the game, and the spikes don't seem to kill you at all. Boulder physics seem to be a little broken, and the wall blocks seem to be offset or something in certain instances.

I can confirm, spikes and boulders aren't fully implemented yet. I'm not sure what spikes are doing exactly, and boulders will not cascade yet. I don't know anything about the wall blocks being offset. Which levels have you noticed that on?

I noticed it in the Harumbaix level, if you drop down and go to the left then you lose the ability to continue left a block before you actually hit the wall. However, it seems you can get past this by crouching (at least until you reach the spike). I imagine this is a bug, unless there is an invisible block in HATPC that I've forgotten about.

Here it is in action: https://gyazo.com/d6086aae7f3535bc0a8ea83f1d0a8724

I believe those are blocks that are not rendered yet or something. Like dynamite

Aha. Yeah, that's a metal dynamite block. It's not rendered yet, but some of its code is still in the game, enough that the game treats is as a block with collision type 2 (solid, like terrain). It's probably best to create levels for testing that use only blocks that are implemented so far, as blocks that aren't implemented can have strange effects like that. Here's the list of blocks that are implemented so far.

Fully implemented:
* Terrain
* Wooden crate
* Metal crate
* Platform (left, right, and center)
* Gem
* Treasure
* Ladder
* Secret
* Hannah (of course)
* Door
* Tutorial arrows

Partially implemented:
* Boulder (Can be pushed, but will not cascade)
* Stalactite (Will not kill the player. Currently have the same collision type as air)

And to answer Darvince's question, my next priority is to get started on the GUI and to implement arrow crates so I can get tutorial level 2 implemented. I'll work my way through the tutorial levels, adding blocks as needed and fleshing out the existing engine as I go. The tutorial popup messages are also going to be a fairly high priority, although maybe not not immediately. Speaking of which, in order to implement the GUI, I'm going to need a copy of the fonts used in the original game. I wonder if some wizardry like CSD's pulling the level codes out of memory would work for fonts too. I'll make a separate topic about that.

Some of the sounds aren't working for me and I'm getting some weird physics bugs as well:

I'm aware that there are some sound issues. It seems related to HTML5, or at least the GameMaker HTML5 export module. There's not much I can do about that unfortunately.

And I have seen that particular physics glitch before as well. I'll have to look into it. Probably something to do with the transition from object to tile and vice versa, since falling blocks are objects and static ones are tiles.

I patched that glitch with falling objects landing in midair (or rather landing on top of other falling objects). They will still land (silently), but they will start falling again after 10 ticks as if an object below them had fell. That way they won't stay floating in midair like that.
