There's still a lot of issues with the background, Teo... Don't worry about it I will just work with what Jellsprout has, except, the crates are all difference sizes on that too. Jell, is that how they actually appear in-game? Slight gaps, sometimes above or beside the crates?
I don't have any images at all yet though for the 3 terrain types.
Kro, you can replace the images in the hatpc folder w/ anything you want if you really wanted to, lol, but unless I code the cavemaker to use the "s" character for snow, it won't really help you do anything. | | krotomo |

Yeah, the snow thing has been bugging me. I've been using clone and the replacing it with the snow. Anyways, maybe we should try testing out all of the different letters and keys again like we did with HatPC. Who knows, we could find some new stuff? | | canadianstickdeath |

I think if you can compile java files if you just go to the "ALL_CHARS" variable (or something along those lines?) and replace the code for something useless with an s in that string, you could use that for snow.
Anyway, more opinions. Same Cavemaker or separate Cavemaker. I will say, having an HATIC "Theme" was something I had always considered doing with the cavemaker, but it's a different story now that it has to be functional too. Again I ask, if anybody knows, if there are any strange limitations like with enemy 4 in HATPC. | | jazz |

Oh hey, is it possible to mess up the game using letters that stop the program? | | Quirvy |

I'd be fine with either implementation of a HatIC cavemaker. I would suspect it would be easiest to just alter the HatPC cavemaker and release it as an entirely new cavemaker, but I don't really care all that much between whether or not the HatIC version is a separate cavemaker, or within the same program as that HatPC cavemaker. So actually, I'll go with "Whatever CSD prefers doing."
If "what CSD prefers doing" is "what the majority prefers that CSD do" than I'll defer to whatever everyone wants.

I guess we also need a 'View Preview for this Level' for HATIC | | krotomo |

Lol, the water drain glitch seems to crash HatIC.
EDIT: Nevermind, it's the no name glitch that does it. "`" | | Isa |

It should be one CaveMaker that sort of has two CaveMakers in it, like a HatPC CaveMaker and a HatIC CaveMaker together, and you can switch between the two without opening anything new. | | Teo |

Yeah, so I guess we'll just wait for the things you're going to do with the HatIC cavemaker for your own, but I think one cavemaker for both HATPC and HATIC is a better option, it's just my opinion of course. Yeah, I know, the tiles are strangely resized in HATIC, but I guess there's no other way to take them than in the way of just taking them in-game with the background off. I did that, and where the background still exists as a black background near the tile graphics, you can just make it transparent. There's no other way, because since we want the HATIC graphics exist in the cavemaker, there's no sense in editing them to fit the 32x32 size.
About the cavemaker itself, you just need to:
- remove the tutorial arrows (-4 tiles)
- remove the water crates (-2 tiles)
- add a snow, preferably at a comfortable place (+1 tile)
And everything is done. As I said, after decompiling "Cavemaker$Cave.class" and looking into "Cavemaker.java", there's one string with "bk^<v>....", and there should appear an "s" instead of something and remove "(n)u" + "!@". Then reprogram the rest of files to fit the new number of tiles. I'm not too experienced with java, so it may be done in a different way, but it shouldn't take too long to just turn it into a HATIC level maker and then somehow have both cavemakers. | | jebby |

One cavemaker to rule them all. Making two with mountains of duplicate code seems wasteful. | | soccerboy13542 |

If the snow could be right next to terrain, that would be awesome. I like the snow lol

It's been a few years since I made that image. I made it with Paint, so it must be at least 6 years. So I don't remember everything exactly. But I think this is how they appear in-game. There is some frost on top of most of the crates, which means the crates themselves are slightly smaller. The total sprite for the crate is still 32x32 pixels, but image of just the crate is something like 32x29 pixels.
All the terrain is also split into its four corners. The specific corner used depends on if there is another bit of terrain next to it. If there is no terrain on its side, that side becomes darker, but if there is a terrain on that side, it stays light. And if there is a piece of terrain touching it diagonally, just that corner becomes dark. Since there are 47 possible configurations (excluding secret areas and different terrain types) this seemed the most elegant solution.

David is so... genius. That was incredibly helpful. I was wondering how to actually play HatIC levels, now I can.

OK still need a 32x32 sampling of each of the terrain types.
I think I'm going to make a separate HATIC cavemaker just to get a feel for what all needs to be changed, and then I'll merge them together. | | atvelonis |

So Fake Snow is like, you break the first one, it breaks all the others I guess but it doesn't show it graphically. And then if you ever manage to stand up under snow, you shoot out the side without having to break any of the others. This game is weird.
EDIT: Actually any time you get stuck in terrain you get shot to the left as long as there isn't anything in the tile above you. Actually it lets you break crates faster than you can just running through them normally. It was fun to dynamite juggle while zipping. And then teleport Armin to the door b/c that's just what you do in this game. | | shos |

I'm in total shock man, you're literally becoming a legend here. those other versions of hatpc - they are completely different! different levels, different mechanics - this is amazing!!! where were you all these years?!?!?! *keeps playing*
kay so I'm playing the first version. it doesn't accumulate points, it has no gems and secret areas, the levels are different, you have to mouseclick to close tutorial messages. and not to mention 'pirate caves of DOOM' title xD
also you can't jump from ladders sideways and you can't get stuck in walls and get through walls using ladders
oh my god. gems are gettable. gem areas are seeni n maps. monsters are harder to avoid. you can speed up the water tap by hitting W. I'm in shock. I am. next VERSION
in the last version, if you go cave of the week, it gives you the code before gamestart
wow david, you made a freakin history here, you just don't know the enormity of the things you did. (also, first post is not top-rated post ever, by FAR, with 18 karma)

secret areas are not visible at all, but when you're in them you're on top of them. also, W - hitting it once is like hitting a water crate.

Some people (neofriendly, Silver and myself) had a problem where the level codes for HatIC could not be pasted into the code box. I got around this problem by running IE as administrator. Right click > Run as administrator and then you should be able to paste level codes in the box. | | Livio |

Remember that "HATPC in IE" shortcut tutorial I made many years ago?
Introducing: HATIC in IE
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/50646273/HATIC.exe
Running this file will open up the custom HATIC page in Internet Explorer so that you can play user levels more easily.

Decided to try HATIC tonight to get an image for featured content and got this.
Doesn't work. Updated Java and attempted to update Shockwave player, but got the same picture. What is the madness? I couldn't find anything on Google.
IE. Why'd it have to be IE?
COMING SOON: A giant meteor. Please.
