I'm pretty sure you can use concepts as well as nouns.

If you could connect beach to staircase by doing Beach -> Matter -> Staircase it would kinda ruin the point...

I myself would think that because a concept could be chosen to be connected to something else, you could use a concept to connect the two.

@Kro: While you could do that, that's far from amusing and would be least likely to win.  I see no reason to not let people do that.  It's up to them.

Using vague concepts is allowed; whether out not you'll win a round like that is up to the person judging (read: nobody likes a party pooper).
