I know I'm two days late to say this, but that inauguration was just incredible. That "Sea of Humanity" as some people are calling it, only represents a fraction of the number of people who actually watched or listened to the event worldwide. And then that speech really was great. Some newspapers have published written copies of the speech yesterday, and my history teacher suggests taking the whole page and putting it in a frame or something so that years from now we can look back at it all. Seriously, this was something for the history books.

Almost every class in my school has a TV, and we spent the day just watching it all live. It was awesome, and we barely did anything. We're lucky Obama's speech wasn't interrupted by the changing of periods. And for the teachers that couldn't get their TVs to work, they watched it live on their laptops or computers and them hooked it up to a speaker and a projector.

Well, the reason I was so late to post this was because of school. I'm just getting too much homework lately... I see that the other judges have finished judging the comp. I shall put in my results and you should see the results by the end of today.

Here in Maryland we had our midterms start on tuesday. But luckily the exam ended before it started, so we actually watched it during 5th period. They even flexed the schedule to fit it in. Which was interesting because there were 3 different occasions that changed the school schedule. The midterms, the inaguration, and then a 1 hour delay because of wintery conditions.

Didn't Arizona go to McCain? I guess you go to a pretty democratic school.

Lol.   this is news not a topic, Ced.

anyways, yeah, I really enjoyed watching the inauguration. I heard he re-took the oath so that there wouldn't be any issues.

Oh, lol.

And yeah, the speech I thought was REALLY interesting. I watched it on TV. I wish I were there at the ceremony though.

everyone in my school wants McCain. Wearing an Obama t-shirt would be like holding a giant "hate me" sign all day. All my teachers voted for Obama, though. After the election, lots of people here were unhappy. And when my graphic design teacher told everyone that Time Magazine picked Obama as the person of the year, everyone was shocked and there was an uncomfortable tension in the room.

These Arizona people stink. Not only do they have the smallest IQs I've ever seen, but they can't even enjoy history as it happens. I literally have to sit through hour-long conversations where these kids try to prove why Obama stinks, and it's really annoying. >_< maybe it's because they're all rich and they don't want Obama taxing them...

Isn't Arizona known (along with states such as Mississippi and Alabama) for it's extreme racism and racist history?

Arizona = racist history?
I don't know about that, but there are a lot of racist people here. You're familiar with the U.S.'s Mexican Immigrant issue right? well, there's a lot of prejudice against them here. We have a sheriff here who people say is extremely racist against Mexicans. He's been cutting back enforcement from more serious crimes just to "capture" illeagal immigrants. And it's not like they're a real problem, but he claims that the Mexicans are responsible for all our crimes, when in reality it's the drugs. Phoenix has one of the worst drug problems in the country and I know way too many people here who are into drugs. And their so dumb, they act like drugs are good for you.

But yeah, the immigrants aren't the problem, I think. Immigrants have never been the problem, in any country, except for when the European immigrants conquered South Africa and started Apartheid.

A more personal question: all of your ancestors, or so you make it seem like, came from Dominican Republic (sorry if I got the name wrong ), can people tell that you're not born into an American family? Are you suffering due to the racism?

I've never been affected through racism. I never even realized that I could've been a target. but people are always confused of where I come from since you can't really tell from the way I look. this one guy approached me last year asking me what I was and if I was mexican. and he didn't look like he knew where the Dominican Republic was.

lol, Haily told this other guy that he was Dominican, and the guy didn't know if it was North or South of the US. Seriously, how many countries are north of the us? there's Canada, and that's it. So Haily told him it was in the Caribbean Sea, but he didn't know where that was either. believe me when I tell you that Arizona people are stupid.

oh, and just last election, the voters voted against a law that would raise funding for the school. man people here are idiots... Now our teachers can't print stuff out b/c the school can't afford paper, and we have to go home and download the worksheets and print them ourselves. I don't know why you wouldn't want to raise taxes if it's going towards the schools, and considering that Arizona is inhabited by a bunch of rich people..... and Arizona is already the second-to-worst state in the US in regards to school-funding....

When we were choosing our new NZ Prime Minister, I went for John Key, of course. So did my dad. But my mum wanted Helen Clark, and she went beserk when John Key was approved. She's gotten over it, of course.

It's weird though how Obama was the first black president out of all the other 43 presidents! Creepy.

well, that's why it's so big. Especially with America's "dark past", it symbolizes that they finally got past the racial prejudice that has haunted its history for so long. Howard Zinn (historian) calls this racism as "the Color Line" that divided society for all these years. And my history teacher said that on Inauguration Day, the color line was "snapped broken".

my dad loves the climate.

Since my parents grew up in the Dominican Republic, they're used to the heat, not the cold.

Do come to Singapore and see the merlion and the tropical climate, that kind of stuff...

Also, it proves that Asia is not an under-developed continent.

PS: Beware of the traffic though. Those people never signal.
