Another Monday, another competition.
For this competition, you must first take a level made by another caver. Remove everything except for the terrain, and remake it as your own.
Examples are Quirvy's Reborn series, where he took some levels from the main game and remade them into new levels.

HatPC Comp #32: Reborn
This comp has already ended and has been judged.
Start Date: Monday, Nov 2, 2009
End Date: Sunday, Nov 15, 2009
Game: Only HATPC content is allowed

Competition Rules:
You may not use a cave of your own. You must use a cave made by another person.
You may change the terrain a little, but not too much. The cave's lay-out must still be recognisable.
Name your 'cave's name_Reborn' to make clear what cave you are remaking. If it doesn't fit, you may shorten the name.
Have fun!

Final Results:
1st: Inclines Reborn (HATPC) - Quirvy
3rd: Get Lost BETA Reborn (HATPC) - krotomo
2nd: ImBack_Reborn (HATPC) - jellsprout

Gee, I could have some fun with this one. Deciding where to put the terrain is always a hurdle in my cave, but on 2nd thought, I must make traps that fit in the area.

Wait... we're supposed to edit everything except the terrain, or what?

Yep, change everything except for the terrain. Does that mean we have to keep the starting postion and door in the same place?

I'd be willing to say no, those aspects of the cave can indeed be changed.

The only "rule" is that you are to make minimal terrain changes. The competition, however, is to make the best reborn cave, so I think it could be to your advantage to keep other "structural" features relatively unchanged. I'm not the authority on this, or anything, so definitely this type of thing is up for debate. It's just that, I doubt a "The Metal Movement Reborn" cave, that kept the terrain mostly the same, but otherwise wasn't even vaguely reminiscent of the original cave, would do very well in this comp.

Hmm... does the theme still have to be related to the name? Like, what if we remake Flyin' Arrows and turn it into a dynamite cave?

Crap, major setback.  Is it possible to copy code onto the old cavemaker? If not, I'll have to remake the entire outline in the cavemaker by hand (not good). Which'd even motivate me less to enter the comp? Or am I not gonna get an answer and get harrassed for not using Csd's cavemaker yet?

When in text document you can go to replace under edit and put spaces where tiles were before it's very handy.

Just remeber that the title could get munched up too.

I think you didn't answer my question? Maybe you did? If so, please explain it more clearly, I'm a simple man. If you didn't answer it, can I do that using the old cavemaker? Sorry if I'm sounding ignorant.

You know how it makes files into a "text document"? Right click somewhere and say create new text document and paste the code of the level you want into it. Then cut the title, terrain info and those things at the top (ctrl+x) and go to edit (at the top) and replace (alternatively just press ctrl+h). Then put say a b in the top box (things you want to replace) and a space in the bottom one (what it will be replaced with) and replace everything other than x and perhaps z. Also remember to paste the title back afterwards.

Unfortunately, I don't really know what you're asking. I think I understand what Harumbai is answering, so hopefully that was your question?

I think that he doesn't know how to get other caves into the old cavemaker. I tried your way, CSD, with your cavemaker, and I got an error, so I just had to do the old fashioned way.

Anyways, yay! First entry!

What? What did you try to do? My best guess is that maybe you tried to open a cave again, while it was already open inside my cavemaker, because you wanted the unmodified version as well, to copy/paste from? The easiest solution is to "save as" the cave that you currently have open, and then open the original. Also, if what you want was within 100 edits, you could try undoing back to it (careful not to make any edits), copying it, and the redoing back to what you had before.

If you want to copy from between caves in the old cavemaker (assuming you have the one that loads caves properly), just make the cave you already have open is saved, open the other cave, copy what's needed, and then open the original cave back up again, and paste into it, without ever closing the cavemaker. If the cave is using the same txt file, you'll need to make a copy of it before saving, and open that to copy from instead.

Are we gonna need an extension on this?

It's not like you guys are very held down. Two caves of mine that could be done: Canadianstick..., Metal Meepit.

Someone should turn Bootcamp into an enjoyable level.

I haven't really looked at it, but O Green World looks like it could be remade pretty easily. C'mon, people! 1 entry by saturday!? And that entry is me!! You ppl should be ashamed of yourself.

I might enter it. It's just I'm gonna have to waste a freaking hour and a half remaking the terrain on the cavemaker.

Just copy a code, paste it into notepad, save open through cavemaker. Then just delete everything else. I don't understand how that takes and hour and a half.

I actually think I understand what you're saying, but I can't  figure out where the folder would be in the cavemaker.

Where does the folder in cavemaker open up to? Just save it to my documents, and then find my documents. Shouldn't be that hard/take 1.5 hrs.

Competition extended, due to only having 2 entries, and only one that follows the competition's rules.
