Here are the judges thoughts on the entries and the competition in general, from the judge forum: 'Quirvy' said: Okay, well, I haven't judged levels in a game like this before, so I'm gonna rate the levels a little different than I normally do 1. Bmwsu -4.9/10 This was okay except for the unnecessarily long fall at the beginning, and the really evil parts that I cannot get past. I get that one might think that it would be a cool idea to force the player to float over spikes to reach objects just above the spikes, but they'd be thinking wrong. I don't get, however, how one could think that it would be a good idea to force the player to hover in between spikes while in hidden areas where you can't see where you are. Also Spamming of Enemies = BAD IDEA. Positives include a name that doesn't involve hatkc and a clear, linear path that does not involve hidden areas. 2. SB13542 -5.2/10 This was okay except for the unnecessary spamming of keys/doors and hidden areas. Why would anyone ever think of using hidden areas to hide paths that the players needs to find? I hear Isa always complaining about the use of secret areas in hatpc, but at least there are little holes in the terrain to help the player find the secret area. The use of hidden areas is not a good idea unless it's blatantly obvious that its there, or if it's just for an extra, like a heart or something. The positive I take out of this is that I thought that the falling robot trap was pretty original. Unfortunately I at first thought it was a glitch, and stood to look at it in awe as it seemingly passed through solid terrain. As it would turn out it was just hidden areas () 3. CSD -7.8/10 This was okay except for the parts that didn't actually do anything, such as that large chunk of the level that you don't do anything in because you reach the door before you can get there. I just plainly don't get what he was thinking. I mean, I know that the game sucks, but this is making something bad worse. This is like doing test corrections for a test you failed, for a grade, and doing all of the corrections wrong. Positives for this level include that it ended earlier than I thought it would. There really are no winners here, just losers. The entrants lose because their levels are not of a high standard(mostly due to the failure that is HatKC in general), neopets loses because their game sucks, we judges lose because we just played their game giving neopets the confidence to make more crappy games, and Isa loses because regardless we know that he isn't amused. Suggested alternative to HatKC 'jellsprout' said: I fully agree with Quirvy's reasoning. BMW's would have been playable, were it not for the extreme floatiness and slow rocket acceleration, combined with the fact that there is no way to make precise horizontal movements, the spikes killing you far easier now and the secret area part. Soccerboy's wasn't too bad, except he abused the secret areas far too much. And secret areas are one of the things that make this game unplayable. CSD's was just pathetic. This level makes his 5 Minutes levels look like gems. It appears he just cut out three paths, altered the terrain slightly, added a few keys, doors, spikes and an enemy and decided to leave it like that. This is the one of the first times that the judges have given direct feedback to entries in the results post. Now you guys can use it to improve your levels! But actually you should instead just leave HatKC alone, because doing anything with that cursed game would be a mistake that you will regret. Furthermore, don't feel bad if that your level sucks, it's neopets' fault for making such a terrible game to begin with RESULTS - Hannah and the Kreludor Caves Comp 1st: Hell's Hole (HatKC) - Bmwsu 2nd: HatKC level with traps? :O (HatKC) - soccerboy13542 3rd: HATKC FTL (HatKC) - canadianstickdeath User Comments (12)
