It's the second week of the Interguild Olympics! Things are off to a pretty good start so far, but now that the number of running comps is about to double, will the teams be able to keep up?
This Week's New Rounds:
IO 2012 - Remove Some Reds
Duration: One Week: Sunday, July 8th --- Sunday, July 15th
Rules: For this week's one-week comp, make a level in the game Red Remover. It seems like the most recent Red Remover levels I've played were either speed levels or guess-the-answer puzzles. You're free to make whatever type of puzzles you want for this comp, but just remember that the game is at its best when it's treated like the logical puzzle game that it is.
IO 2012 - Be a Ninja
Duration: Two Weeks: Sunday, July 8th --- Sunday, July 22nd
Rules: Make a level for the game N. Unlike most platformers, N emphasizes skill and execution over puzzles and exploration. One of the major challenges with making levels for this game is in finding the right balance in difficulty, so I recommend playtesting these levels with your teams before releasing them.
IO 2012 - Olympic City
Duration: Three Weeks: Sunday, July 8th --- Sunday, July 29th
Rules: It's another Minecraft round! There's a new warp point on the server called 'olympiccity', and if you go there you'll find a tree with some pavement around it, which represents the center of Olympic City. Your task is to build a skyscraper for the city, but it must be as close as possible to the center of the city. The purpose of this rule is to create a city that grows out organically from the center, rather than by claiming an expansive region beforehand and having the city feel way too spread out. World Edit is banned in this comp (probably for your own good), and the judges are looking for quality buildings with polish put into them, not for the biggest eyesore. Also, please consider city planning when placing your buildings, so that there's enough room for streets and stuff to connect your buildings together, or else we'll end up with a mess that's reminiscent of Spawn City.
IO 2012 - No Ladders, No Platforms
Duration: Three Weeks: Sunday, July 8th --- Sunday, July 29th
Rules: When talking about HATPC we generally tend to see arrows and dynamite crates as some of the two most important tiles in the game, but have you ever considered how big of a role platforms and ladders tend to play in your levels? The challenge for this round is to make a level without ladders and platforms.

Since we are building Skyscrapers, I don't think it would be unreasonable to make the area down to the lowest possible level. | | FlashMarsh |

You SERIOUSLY expect us to make good builds when we can't even use true creative? Seriously? If this isn't changed soon, I'm not entering. | | krotomo |

Is the super pick allowed? It is part of WE, but everyone can use it. | | Darvince |

Is that how the server is currently set up? I don't see any of that in the ruleset, but on the other hand, I'm never playing on Creative, so eh. | | Quirvy |

I'm not sure what true creative is, but if I understand correctly, that's allowed. I think Livio just wants to make sure nobody can use world edit to make a skyscraper in 2 minutes, while the non-WE people have to build it block by block..

You don't have infinite blocks and the super pick is quite buggy and slow. Creative game mode is better. | | soccerboy13542 |

Aren't you guys building this in creative mode? What exactly is the problem here?

He didn't build it on the survival server, right? I'm a bit confused with all of this since I don't have minecraft, can you explain to me what the server it's built on is and how it limits your building capabilities?
Hopefully we can get Livio on to sort this out, if not perhaps we'll might have to move the location of Olympic City by ourselves.

I don't see what the difference is, since it's really only marginally slower than infinite blocks. You're acting like it makes a huge difference? | | Darvince |

marginally slow:
super pickaxe: 0.2 second, because the server has to register it as a super pickaxe hit
creative: 0.05 second, because the server only has to register the block as gone instead of pickaxe hit -> superpickaxe -> gone
