If you do not see them in your CaveMaker, it's because you are using the wrong version of CaveMaker. These crates were once included in the very first version of CaveMaker, which was uploaded only a few days before the current version replaced it. However, we recommend that you download our own custom-built version of CaveMaker, programmed by user canadianstickdeath. You can download the program here.
How to Use the Water Crate
Ability: When destroyed, releases a certain amount of water from all water taps Useless when: There are no water taps in the level Works great with: Water Taps, Water Tap Crates
In order to use a water crate, all you need is at least one water tap somewhere in your level. When you break a water crate, all water taps will release a bunch of water in one moment. According to jellsprout, "A water crate adds 147 bits of water for each tap in the level. . . . 8 bits of water go into one square."
How to Use the Water Tap Crate
Ability: Its existence in the level freezes all water taps. Break a water tap crate to start them all. Useless when: Another water tap crate has already been broken, or if there is no water tap in the level. Works great with: Water Taps, Water Crates
If you put at least one water tap crate in your level, none of the water taps in it will start until at least one water tap crate has been broken.
Tips for CaveMaking
Use water crates when you want to fast-forward the effects of your water taps.
Combine water tap crates with water crates to gain more control over how much water is in your cave and at what time.
To get a more precise amount of water in your cave, try changing the number of water taps you're using. Or try changing the number of water crates.
Be aware that using too many water taps or destroying too many water crates at once will significantly make the game slower.
If you want to keep water taps frozen throughout the entire level, it is common practice to place the water tap crate in an impossible-to-reach location.
You can still find uses for these crates even if there are no water taps in the level.
These crates are similar to wooden crates, except they do not make you bounce back when you hit them. You can use this to your advantage.
Water Crates look very similar to wooden crates. You can confuse the player by mixing them with a few wooden ones, which the player might need to land on in order to have something to bounce off of.
Example Video and Level
See the video below to see this crate in action. Or if you prefer, look at the example level to the right. I suggest using that level as a starting point for your own experimentation with the tiles. For your added convenience, here is a link to the uploader page, which opens in a new tab.

For side boundaries, I recall that only the lack of a floor causes the water to drain. I think that a wall-less level still stops water at the boundaries and I know that a ceiling-less level stops water at the top. However the top part that is directly above the water tap starts glitching. That single tile will fill up and once it's full empty again and repeat this process.
I think we might need to reorganize the blog categories. We can't just dump everything into the Beginners section. Maybe we need a "Tiles" section. I'll go add it...
