Capturing the Screen

I was thinking of writing a guide on how to take a screenshot and upload it to the Internet so that you can post it on the forums, but then I realized that writing a guide that would be useful for everyone would be difficult without knowing how the process works on all types of computers.

So instead, I'll just link you to a bunch of great guides I found on Google! It's better than plagiarizing.

Taking screenshots on a Windows computer: http://www.wikihow.com/Take-a-Screenshot-in-Microsoft-Windows
How I do it: Just press the key on the top-right of the keyboard that says: PrtSc (Print Screen), and it copies the image that you see on the screen. You'll have to paste it into a program like Paint and then save it. Also useful: press Alt+PrtSc to only get a screenshot of the currently selected window.

Editing the Image

A lot of times you may have to edit the image first. For example, you may want to resize it because it's too big. However, Paint has a terrible image-resizer (I don't use Paint, so for all I know, it may not even have an image-resizer). However, there are tons of better programs out there, and many of them are free! Here are a few:

Downloadable Programs:

http://www.getpaint.net
Online Editors (no download required):
http://www.pixlr.com
https://www.photoshop.com/tools/ria?wf=organize (Last I checked it was free, but now you need an account on their site to access it)

Uploading

Once you have your screenshot saved in an image, you'll need to upload it to the Internet so that other people can see it. To do this, you can select one of various, free, image-uploading websites, such as:

http://tinypic.com
http://photobucket.com
http://imageshack.us

When you upload your image, you'll be given a URL to the image. To post the image on the forums, you can just post the link to it, or use BBcode:
Code:
[img]image-url-goes-here[/img]

One Final Note:
Not everything can be captured by the default screen-capture devices on your computer. You may find that you will have to download more advanced programs or do some other weird things in order to capture images in some cases. For example, I can't figure out how to take screenshots or capture video from Zelda Classic. I just get a fuchsia screen instead. If anyone figures this out (csd! how did you film those walkthroughs??), post below.

Lol, Livio, you don't have to do anything special, really, to record ZC. When you open ZC, by default it comes up in fullscreen, but if you use the ZCLauncher, and can get windowed mode (infinitely more useful when creating quests as well) and just record it normally.

window mode?

but speaking of special software and stuff, I was just speculating. I have, however, run into video players that did not let you screen-capture from them, either in screenshots or video.

I edited the last part of this guide to compensate for this new knowledge I have just gained.
