This is something I should have made a long time ago. You know, back when I still made caves and it'd actually be useful to me. Anyway, I posted the link a little below, and I'd appreciate it if you all'd download it, play around with it, and tell me what you think. I don't want you guys to mention any potential new features just yet, I just want to know if you can find any bugs, or anything that doesn't function in the way that you would perhaps expect it to.

http://www.interguild.org/hatpc/cavemaker.zip (EDIT: You cannot trust this link to be remotely up-to-date.)

Due to a forum bug, you'll probably have to copy that and paste it into your address bar.

To run that, you'll first have to extract that all into the same folder. If you can't extract zip files, download WinRAR: http://www.win-rar.com/download.html

You'll also need to make sure you have the latest version of Java: http://www.java.com

Inside, there's a file named cavemaker.bat, which you will double-click on the run the program. A cmd window will pop up and hang around with you the whole time as you use the cavemaker. Close it, and you close the cavemaker with it, so, just ignore it for now. If it comes up and then just goes away, then you (probably) have not, either, followed these steps properly, or you do not have the latest version of java on your computer. I'm working on a way to make it stand-alone, but for now this will suffice. Also, you can make a short-cut of the .bat file (right-click create shortcut, probably) and then you can paste that into wherever you'd like to be able to open the cavemaker from. Also note that, since this was coded in java, it should be able to run on systems other than Windows. I haven't seen fungus in a while, but if you see him, direct him here so I can get that straightened out. We might have to jump through a few hoops, but it should be able to run on his mac. Update: The cavemaker program is now in a jar file. You should be able to run it by double clicking but, if not, set java as the default program from opening jar files. The .bat is still there if needed.

If you have Windows 7, check out this short topic for help: http://www.interguild.org/members/forums/topic.php?id=5124

I'm going to attempt to list some of the changes that I've made from the Neopets version. Here's what I could think of, in no particular order:

Spoiler: ''List of Changes from the Neopets Version''

So yeah, try it out, and if there's anything that gets on your nerves, let me know I'll try making changes to it. I'll work on adding new features at an unspecified point in the future. For now, I'd like to ensure that this is working properly and there's nothing about it that people just hate to death.

Same here. A black box (assuming the thing you mentioned) appears for about half a second and that's it.

you need to put all of the stuff in the zip file into a folder on your computer. THEN you run it.

I got it to work and it's amazing! two caves at once; so many possibilities...

I got this idea just the other day, but I'd love to see a little window that shows a tiny image of my overall cave. Kinda like the Navigator Window in Photoshop, that way I can get a sense of how much space I've used. Zooming in/out is a must, too.

but I'm gonna test for bugs now. is the clone tile supposed to be fake crates? I looked at the map as text window (finally a keyboard shortcut for that!) and I think that's what you meant.

EDIT: oh yeah, great job on the air pocket.

BUG! when you change the dimensions of your map, everything goes blank. but when you move it, it all comes back. I'd also like it if I am typing in dimensions and I click Enter, then I'd like it to work. Also, when you put something on the edge of a map, cut the dimensions so that it doesn't exist anymore, when you put it back to the original dimensions, it's gone. that's not a glitch, it's more of a non-existent feature, but then again, you could just undo...

when I went to the link, I clicked to open it from right there. after loading, the zip file opened up and I saw all the stuff in it. I highlighted it all, right-clicked on it, and click extract to specified folder. then I chose the folder and I was done. To open it, I just click on the .bat file that I just saved onto my computer.

Also, what browser did you do this in?

You should have put everything into a single folder named CaveMaker 2 or something instead of just creating 11 files, which I wasn't prepared for (didn't look through the .zip file).

I like the changes, but I have no idea why I'd like to minimize the actual cave but keep the "shell" (in lack of a better word).

Nevermind, opened another level and noticed...

Another thing is that I'd like to have a shortcut to the Level Properties menu

Nevermind again, looked and saw that Ctrl+L did what I wanted.

Overall, very good. But if possible, make it a .exe file instead of a .bat.

I downloaded the zip file through firefox, but it shouldn't matter. do you have some sort of zip reader on your computer. I bet you do... but when you get the message after going to the link, you can either save it or open the zip file. I opened it, and then I took all of the files inside the zip file and extracted them.

Oh, I'm doing what you said. But is the "zip" file the entire folder when I open it?

Listen here. The link CSD gave us ended with .zip, remember? That means that you're downloading a .zip file. Download it to somewhere easily accessible, like your desktop. Now, right-click on that file, and click "Extract all". Then, eleven files will pop up, including a new folder named Images.

I suggest that you create a new folder named CaveMaker or CaveMaker 2 (or whatever, really), and put all of the files, including the Images folder, in that new folder you just created.

Now, to open the Cavemaker, click on the file named Cavemaker. Simple as that.

You don't need Winzip at all. Windows already has an inbuilt tool for extracting .zip-files.

csd, I just got a horrible glitch. I opened a cave, renamed it, then I Saved As, then I went into another window, deleted to old version from before Saving As and realizing that the little open window doesn't allow you to delete files, then I looked back at the window and saw that somehow I had turned a tile into a blue bird, so I clicked undo and everything disappeared. it was the same way that everything disappears when you change dimensions, but it wouldn't come back. the worst part about the glitch is that I don't know what caused it....

No I've got a similar problem. I've extracted into a new folder (automatically called cavemaker) and when I double click on the .bat it starts running then very quickly in the black box writes lines of code then quits.

Edit: Refering to goldfuns problem.

Double edit: We need the thing they have on the nifflas support forun which tells you if someone has posted while you were writing yours. just before it gets posted it tells you that someone has posted (if they have).

Do you by any chance run Windows Vista, or something else than Windows XP? That could be the cause of your glitch, but I don't think so.

Alright...

1. I go to the link. And it like automatically downloads (I'm in FF)

2. I'm in my downloads folder and I open what I just downloaded.

3. There is like the Images, Class things, and the .bat file.

4. I go to desktop, extract that folder and it takes me to the folder.

5. I double click the .bat file and hit run and that black box only pops up for a second and that's it.
