I never read any Emerson in high school but was introduced to a couple of his essays in my English class in college this semester. I have a soft spot for esoteric writing styles in general, but these are just incredible. My personal favorite is probably " The Poet" (1844). Here are a few quotes:
"For poetry was all written before time was, and whenever we are so finely organized that we can penetrate into that region where the air is music, we hear those primal warblings, and attempt to write them down, but we lose ever and anon a word, or a verse, and substitute something of our own, and thus miswrite the poem. The men of more delicate ear write down these cadences more faithfully, and these transcripts, though imperfect, become the songs of the nations." (This reminds me of Jorge Luis Borges' short story, " The Library of Babel," and its real-life counterpart.)
"The vocabulary of an omniscient man would embrace words and images excluded from polite conversation. What would be base, or even obscene, to the obscene, becomes illustrious, spoken in a new connexion of thought."
"For, though the origin of most of our words is forgotten, each word was at first a stroke of genius, and obtained currency, because for the moment it symbolized the world to the first speaker and to the hearer. The etymologist finds the deadest word to have been once a brilliant picture. Language is fossil poetry."
"I think nothing is of any value in books, excepting the transcendental and extraordinary. If a man is inflamed and carried away by his thought, to that degree that he forgets the authors and the public, and heeds only this one dream, which holds him like an insanity, let me read his paper, and you may have all the arguments and histories and criticism."
I think I've begun to understand why Emerson is held in such high regard now, and why pretty much every intellectual from the 19th century onward is acquainted with his writing. But I still have many more essays and poems and speeches of his to read!

I finally lost access to my main Neopets account a couple days ago. I knew it was pretty inevitable; my account had been in a sort of limbo for a few years. Either I changed my password and completely forgot, or my password stopped working because of some goof on TNT's end. I originally created the account using my mom's email address, the name of which had changed over the years due to company takeovers, but essentially remained the same address. Still this made it impossible to receive emails from TNT. This put me in a loop where I couldn't change my password because my account was tied to a bum email address, and I couldn't change the email address because I was required to enter my password.
The only reason I was still able to access my account was because at some point I had checked the "stay logged in" button or whatever in Chrome on my laptop. I couldn't log in anywhere else, and knew I'd be finished if something happened to Chrome on my laptop. I had submitted a couple tickets to TNT on the issue, but they never responded-- shocking, I know
Finally, last Thursday, I was having trouble making an online purchase, and thought the problem may have been due to my browser's cookies. I knew I had cleared caches & such in Chrome before without affecting my Neopets account, so I thought maybe I had tweaked the settings to avoid getting logged out of sites. Nope, I got logged out. AND the online purchase troubles weren't even cookie-related : /
I of course sent TNT an email on an address I have access to and received an automatic response (their ticket system is currently getting overhauled), but I'm not holding my breath. At first I was shocked and didn't really know how to process losing an account I've had for 14 years, even if my interesting in Neopets these days is pretty much out of passive nostalgia. Now I've settled in to an indifference of sorts-- ultimately, I think the prospects of losing access to my account were more terrifying than actually losing my account. Still, it's not great

pretty sure if you've saved passwords in chrome, you can access the password itself

i used to never let my browser save my passwords, and i think my password had some non-ascii characters in it and considering that neopets stores their passwords in plaintext i'm pretty sure it would've gotten corrupted anyway. to be honest i'm not really interested in contacting jumpstart aka netdragon aka the chinese government to ask for my teenaged pets back.
