Once upon a time, Hannah got stuck in a cave. She jumped around a lot, climbed ladders, and accidentally set off some dynamite. Then she collected some treasure from random treasure chests that happened to be there and once she had collected a bunch of treasure a door opened. Then she went through the door and out of the cave. The end.
Spoiler because it's a page and a half or so in word
Spoiler:
The beads of sweat were present on her brow, but she would not be deterred. Push this boulder, break that crate. It all seemed so tedious, yet it was her passion. Hannah grabbed Armin--whom at this point had all but given up--by the wrist. She looked him in the eyes and whispered "Just one more hallway, then we're out". That was all it took, they crossed the corridor, pushed the boulder, broke the crate, and just like that they were out. All had gone according to plan. They got in, they got them gems, and they got out. It had truly been one of the easiest excavations they had ever done, and yet for some reason Armin seemed ever more disconnected with the job. There had to be an underlying reason, and Hannah would find it no matter the resistance he posed.
"Hey, what's your problem Armin?" Hannah questioned.
"It's nothing, I'm fine." Armin snapped
"Woah, easy tiger. I'm just worried about you. I know these caves are more than the small jobs we started with, but we got out-"
"We never get out". Armin snapped and walked away
What could that possibly mean? Hannah thought to herself. They always got out safe and sound, that couldn't be what he meant, so what was it?
Hannah didn't let her concern her much--she couldn't, they had an job in the morning--but as she got ready for bed, it lingered in her mind. Regardless, she got into bed and dreamed of the gems. They would be unloading them to the buyer in three days time, then they had the whole summer off. They'd be hitting the beaches and all would be
About ten minutes into the job, things were fixing to be another easy job. "So how you doing Armin? Sorry I made you so mad yesterday. What was that even about?"
"It's nothing. It's just... nevermind"
"No, no, tell me"
"Well it's just... you always say that we're getting in and out but we never really get out. There will always be another cave, more gems, another work season. I just want to be done some day"
After that silence ensued. Hannah loved what she did, she had never thought about getting out of the business, but if it's what Armin wanted... By this point they were halfway through the cave, had the gem, and were on the way out. Part of Hannah was sad that the cave had been so minimal--since they started these pirate caves, they never really encountered many enemies besides the uncommon cave animal. Upon further inspection, Hannah thought she could probably see what he was taking about but why had he never brought it up before?
"Hey Armin?"
"Yeah, yeah, I know I was-"
"No, no. what's that sound?"
Now he heard it. It sounded like there was a mini army chasing them. He looked behind him and released the highest pitch scream Hannah had ever heard. Behind them, there was nothing short of 200 rats, all chasing them. They looked more rabid and fierce than ever before. Hannah heard the ground beneath her cracking. She looked down and they were standing on a ledge, which was crumbling under the force of the rats.
"JUMP!" Hannah yelled as she saw the startled look on Armin's face.
Hannah sailed through the air to a ledge a few feet away, but was shocked when Armin didn't jump. The ground beneath him was cracking, the rats were gaining. If one didn't kill him first, the other would. "JUMP YOU IDIOT" Hanna yelled, this time more commanding.
As the ground beneath him crumbled, he looked Hannah in the eyes and whispered to her.

hannah was lying on the damp muddy floor of the cave thinking of the past when she would attend parties with women who would smear mud on their faces to give themselves softer skin but as she cupped a handful of mud on her squirrel face she could only think of how ridiculous it all was. the mud entered her nose and it stung and her nostrils began to burn like the fireworks she saw in the evening with her society friends and she thought it was the most amazing thing in the world. somewhere in a corner she heard the flapping of a bat and she remembered the times when she would go to the zoo to see animals like bats in the trees and their droppings would barely miss her head and she thought that she would like to have a bat as a pet instead of the chihuahuas and poodles and cocker spaniels that she owned and put bows in and fed sometimes but it was usually her servant that fed them, but the zookeeper told her that people did not own bats and that bats often had rabies and you wouldn't want rabies because when they bite you there's no cure. as she heard the flapping of the bat she thought of how the bat might come to where she was lying and bite her and she would get rabies and there would be no cure and she would go mad for a flash like a firework and drool at the mouth for a bit and then die probably in that same cave because there was no way out for people like her just like there's no way to cure rabies. then she thought of her husband armin who was so against her going back to the pirate caves because they had bought a nice house not too big in a suburb in new jersey and he thought they could finally settle down but hannah missed the pirate caves the caves that started her cave adventure and led her to the ice caves which led her to meet her husband armin whom she had now left. hannah closed her eyes because she could not bear to see the roof of the cave so brown so damp that reminded her of where she was and when she closed her eyes everything was black and she could imagine that when she opened her eyes she could be anywhere at all in the house in new jersey or in the ice caves with armin and she could imagine she was not alone in the pirate caves leaving armin betraying him forever. hannah turned on her side but the clump of mud on her face fell off as she turned and it landed with a shuffling THUMP and the bat must have heard because the flapping became louder like it was coming near her and hannah tried to bury herself into the muddy cave floor because she knew she couldn't get up and run, she would not be fast enough she was exhausted. but she was too big to be hidden and even though they say that bats are blind that's not really true and the bat saw her and besides they have sonar and echolocation so the bat sensed hannah's presence and went for her and soon it wasn't just one bat it was a whole flock of bats because the bats can also talk to each other and they saw fresh meat, and hannah saw danger because if there's just one bat it might not have rabies and even if it bites you you might be fine, but if there's a whole flock of them then one of them's got to have rabies, and hannah didn't scream only tried to throw herself further into the muddy cave floor as the bats sunk their batty fangs into her flesh and hannah knew it was all over.
The competition will be extended until Wednesday of next week. The $20 will be sent via digital Amazon card. If you win, I will notify you. In order to send the digital gift card I'll need to e-mail it to you, so obviously I'll need your e-mail address. There is still time to write a fan-fiction. I'd rather not have a competition like this with only three entries
