It's about time that we added this to the site. TrackMania has become one of my most favorite games ever. I owned a version of the original game (I think was called TrackMania Nations United Forever, or something ridiculous like that), but now TrackMania2 offers new game modes and it's integrated with Steam Workshop, which makes sharing your levels as easy as sharing a link.

So what exactly is TrackMania? It's a racing game where you can make your own tracks. The game has been around for ten years or so, and it has a huge community. It's what some people call a "precision driving game", which means your goal is to find the fastest route through a track.

When you play on multiplayer servers, the most popular game mode is time trial. So the server will load up a random user-created level, and then it gives you about five minutes before it decides to switch to the next track. You get as many tries as you want during those five minutes, and all of the other drivers are displayed as ghosts. It's super addicting, and it's fun to see some of the crazy levels that people have created over the years.

Nadeo, the studio that created TrackMania, has been releasing TrackMania 2 in small chunks. So far they've released three versions: Stadium, Canyon, and Valley.

TrackMania2 Stadium is basically the purest TrackMania experience. It's pretty much the same game as the previous one except it's got slightly better graphics, and it's integrated with the Steam Workshop. I think it's compatible with the previous game, which means there are a lot more servers available than on the other versions.

TrackMania2 Canyon has all of the same awesome features as Stadium, but the cars and track pieces are different. Unlike Stadium, drifting is a much bigger part of Canyon's gameplay, which makes for some really intense tracks. It's currently my favorite of all of the TrackMania2 modes.

TrackMania2 Valley's cars are somewhere in between Stadium's and Canyon's in terms of grip. I actually don't know that much about Valley, since I had trouble finding major differences that truly set it apart. For now, it just looks like a much prettier version of Stadium with cars that handle slightly differently.

So in summary, I really like TrackMania, and you should too! All versions of the game are 50% off right now (and the sale ends in like 4 days), so give it a try! You could also try the demos, but they have very limited access to a few official servers.

Yeah I noticed. I added TrackMania2 Canyon two days agao, and then when I logged on today to add the others, I noticed that you submitted something. It'll probably get added.

*Looks at Bang_jans's submitted game*

HEY! I've actually played that game before! I've only played the demo (first 2 levels I think), so I imagine it gets much more intense/brazenly psychedelic. That game definitely has level creation potential from what I remember, I just didn't know it had a level editor. I'd probably let someone who has access to all the game content approve it though, just to be sure. I feel pretty stupid to not recognize it, I blame the title.

I know this isn't via PM, but I didn't answer your question so yeah.

This reminds me of my year-long love affair with Trials Evolution. I would have loved to have seen that get on this site (the level editor was ridiculous - you could make FPS games and microprocessors in it), but unfortunately it was only on the console at the time. This game looks fun as well, though I'm going to wait until the price comes down further (maybe in the summer sale). I'm not usually one to buy a racing game, so I don't want to spend 8 quid willy-nilly, especially as I've blown a lot of money on Steam games this month.

Aw I was super close to getting Trials when it was on sale for $5 USD the other day. I'll probably wait for the summer sale for that then.

Depends:

TrackMania2 Stadium: $10 USD (currently on sale for $5)
http://store.steampowered.com/app/232910/?snr=1_7_15__13
TrackMania2 Canyon: $20 USD (currently on sale for $10)
http://store.steampowered.com/app/228760/?snr=1_7_15__13
TrackMania2 Valle: $20 USD (currently on sale for $10)
http://store.steampowered.com/app/243360/?snr=1_7_15__13

You could also get all three for $40 (currently on sale for $20)
http://store.steampowered.com/sub/34409/

If I were you, I'd just add the game to your wishlist and then watch for when it goes on sale for %75 off again, which will probably be in a few months.

This initially seemed pretty meh to me when I first saw it but after I watched the walkthrough you uploaded it seems a lot more interesting than it did before. Is there singleplayer and multiplayer? Or is it just multiplayer? Also, about the different versions if the game; is each version an upgraded version of the previous one or something? Or are they just different gamemodes or something? I'm a little fuzzy on the details.

They have single player and multiplayer (both online and local multiplayer). You can even save your replays and upload them so that others can race against your fastest time.

You can imagine each version as essentially being a different mode of the same game. Like when I bought TrackMania 1, all of these modes came together in the same game, but this time around, they're selling them separately as smaller games.

Also, feel free to try the demos, guys!

You want to buy Stadium if you play mainly multiplayer (which you should), but otherwise buy Canyon.

I played through 20 something levels of it. It's a cool game, but I feel like it's much more easier to cheat things with in it since you can alter an object's course at anytime in its flightpath rather than only being able to release it. I beat several levels in ways that I don't think were intended

But did you get the par? Thinking about it, pars should be implemented into player levels

Is there any way to see the pars before you beat the level? It'd be helpful to know what my goal was as I played the level the first time. And pars can be informally implemented in user levels, just say what the par is in the level description or something.

PS: Yimmy I expect you to upload a level of this since you submitted the game and I will silently judge you in the event that you do not

EDIT: Wow, just noticed the par while you're playing the level. I feel dumb

With 90 levels beaten and 86 parred, I have a total of 46 points under par.

Edit: I just got level 46 normal mode 6 under par. I could probably get it down to 5 or even 4 if I really cared.

There is a serious glitch in this game, allowing you to beat this level in a single click.

There's a subreddit for user levels, though it is really lacking in organization. If we play our cards right, we could probably be the first real community for this game and get a lot of new members.

When I click on a level from /r/redremoverblast the game itself doesn't actually load. Not sure why. It's not hard to fix - you just click the chain-link button in the top right corner and copy said link - but it's still a little weird.

Does anyone know why this happens in the first place?
