This Week's New Rounds: IO 2012 - Remove Some Reds Duration: One Week: Sunday, July 8th --- Sunday, July 15th Rules: For this week's one-week comp, make a level in the game Red Remover. It seems like the most recent Red Remover levels I've played were either speed levels or guess-the-answer puzzles. You're free to make whatever type of puzzles you want for this comp, but just remember that the game is at its best when it's treated like the logical puzzle game that it is. IO 2012 - Be a Ninja Duration: Two Weeks: Sunday, July 8th --- Sunday, July 22nd Rules: Make a level for the game N. Unlike most platformers, N emphasizes skill and execution over puzzles and exploration. One of the major challenges with making levels for this game is in finding the right balance in difficulty, so I recommend playtesting these levels with your teams before releasing them. IO 2012 - Olympic City Duration: Three Weeks: Sunday, July 8th --- Sunday, July 29th Rules: It's another Minecraft round! There's a new warp point on the server called 'olympiccity', and if you go there you'll find a tree with some pavement around it, which represents the center of Olympic City. Your task is to build a skyscraper for the city, but it must be as close as possible to the center of the city. The purpose of this rule is to create a city that grows out organically from the center, rather than by claiming an expansive region beforehand and having the city feel way too spread out. World Edit is banned in this comp (probably for your own good), and the judges are looking for quality buildings with polish put into them, not for the biggest eyesore. Also, please consider city planning when placing your buildings, so that there's enough room for streets and stuff to connect your buildings together, or else we'll end up with a mess that's reminiscent of Spawn City. IO 2012 - No Ladders, No Platforms Duration: Three Weeks: Sunday, July 8th --- Sunday, July 29th Rules: When talking about HATPC we generally tend to see arrows and dynamite crates as some of the two most important tiles in the game, but have you ever considered how big of a role platforms and ladders tend to play in your levels? The challenge for this round is to make a level without ladders and platforms.
