I am fairly certain that in your entire lifetime, you have spend far more time playing Pokemon games than playing Elebits games.

Compare HatPC to HatIC. Compare NQ I to NQ II. Compare that mutant graveyard game 1 to that mutant graveyard game 2. The quality of Neopets games has been steadily declining for many years now. I think the game developers from around 2000 have either stopped working for Neopets or they have simply been losing their motivation.

Didn't they sell neopets? And then all the sponsering EXPLODED.

Yeah, but the decline started earlier than that. Though their decline did accelerate after the sell.

Dammit.
What would be a good Grass Pokemon to use? I chose Cyndaquil as my starter.

Anything works in-game.
I remember every 256 steps you take increases the happiness by 1 point, Soothe Bell should double this to 2 points. To compare, giving your Pokemon a haircut increases the happiness by 3-5 points.

'jellsprout' said: In that case:
Exeggutor
-Sleep Powder
-Psychic
-Mega Drain
-Explosion
Chansey
-Softboiled
-Ice Beam
-Thunderbolt

Tauros
-Body Slam
-Hyper Beam
-Earthquake
-Blizzard
Rhydon
-Earthquake
-Rock Slide
-Body Slam
-Substitute
Starmie
-Blizzard
-Thunderbolt
-Thunder Wave
-Recover
Zapdos
-Thunderbolt
-Drill Peck
-Thunder Wave
-Agility
Remember this? I've played competitive RBY for the past six months, and I'm more or less a prodigy. I placed second in my first three tournaments (No sleep clause, Underused and Normal/Fire/Water only), and I'm in Winners Finals in Never used, the current tournament. Ironically enough, in the Overused tournament, I got 9th and last place. I've also became a mod.
Anyway, your suggested team seems perfectly viable, though I'd lead Starmie, replace her Thunderbolt with Psychic to counter Gengar leads and perhaps replace Zapdos with something that can take a special hit better (Slowbro?). I'd love to fight you some time. | | jellsprout |

I've never actually played 1st Gen. But OU then was small enough to learn all the viable Pokemon and their general strategies. I also read up a bit on the Smogon forums and learned from that.
I personally would prefer to safe Starmie for later in the game. Once the opponent's Chansey and Alakazam are removed your Starmie can clear the opponent's team with little trouble. As a lead you win from Gengar and Eggy, but I think you lose from Alakazam and Jynx. Alakazam should work about as effectively as Starmie in the lead position and saves your Starmie for later.
Zapdos was my last addition to the team. Because he is mixed he can take out Chansey if you manage to remove Golem/Rhydon from the game. But I suppose Tauros should do that just as effectively. And I already have Chansey for walling Special sweepers, but I suppose it would be smart to add something else in case Chansey gets frozen or you get outpredicted or something. My first thought would be Alakazam instead of Slowbro, though. Defensively he is like a mini-Chansey and offensively he is still great against anything non-Psychic. Thanks to his speed he should also be able to stop a Tauros or Zapdos if they are weakened.
What do you use to play Gen 1 anyway? I don't know if Netbattle still works and I don't think Smogon's program works with older gens.

The reason I didn't mention Zam was because the original criteria was that the team should be playable without trading. Otherwise, yeah, Zam > Slowbro in that team. I also dislike Starmie, because I always have terrible luck with her (and Gengar). Furthermore, your Starmie set doesn't threaten Gengar that much - you need Psychic for that, Thunder Wave is cool and all, but a CH TBolt from Gengar can OHKO you. It has happened to me when I didn't carry Psychic or Thunder Wave (one very bad set). Other than that your analysis is correct, but remember that you suggested lead Exeggutor, which only beats lead Alakazam and Starmie (and Starmie leads are uncommon, so you'll lose against Gengar/Jynx more or less frequently)
My standard team, for reference, is the following:
Alakazam
-Psychic
-Recover
-Seismic Toss
-Thunder Wave
Tauros
-Body Slam
-Earthquake
-Hyper Beam
-Blizzard
Exeggutor
-Sleep Powder
-Mega Drain
-Psychic
-Explosion
Snorlax
-Body Slam
-Hyper Beam
-Earthquake
-Selfdestruct
Chansey
-Thunder Wave
-Thunderbolt
-Ice Beam
-Softboiled
Zapdos
-Agility
-Thunderbolt
-Thunder Wave
-Drill Peck
Not too far away from your team. I like spreading paralysis, and I'm not too bothered if I don't get a sleep in. I'm very skilled at predicting so I tend to do good.
NetBattle still works. Pokemon Online is introducing RBY soon, and they'll allow custom metagames like this. There's a link on that forum to a standalone download of NetBattle if you browse around. | | |
