Finalized Characters
Captain Floyd - a wolf that has better than average stats with no specials abilities.
Pilot Felix - an eagle that can control falling speed, allowing for move precision while falling as well as a longer jump distance.
Navigator Jean - a cat (Imtimi suggested cheetah) that can run very fast during periods of time, but is awkward in water.
Navigator Ivan - an otter with great handling underwater and an extensive air supply, but less-than-ideal abilities on land.
Technician Rita - an armadillo who cannot swim but can roll to increase her speed significantly to cross the surface of water and destroy spikes.
Janitor Hugsy - a deranged hamster who... is deranged. No special abilities and average stats.

Yeah that could work, but then it may change the feel of the game, maybe if it was just one enemy per level, you could work around that.

I didn't include Jean because I didn't really have anything for her to do. 5 characters is more than enough, anyway. She runs fast but sucks in water? But then we have Rita, who doesn't swim... and can roll really fast, apparently. If you want Jean, you have to think of thing better. The ideas listed so far are not it.

IDK, maybe? Cats can climb a mean tree, I guess. You'd have to give her some especially sharp claws?

In light of this knowledge I think we should reconsider the presence of a badger in our game. Maybe just have it replace the cat like I suggested back in September.

btw, why are there two navigators?

Maybe Jean could perform a wall-jump on walls with a certain pattern, maybe? And can climb up certain walls for a short period of time - five or six seconds, maybe? She can swim, but not very well, she can't go very deep and she loses two bubbles a second? And maybe she has a sixth sense for gems - if you press a certain button she can give you a small hint? Like "top of the mountain" for higher up, "bottom of the pit" for lower down, "on neutral ground" for in the middle, maybe?

So in saying, Jean is pretty much a "neutral" character. I tried to give her some cat-like characteristics here, so... yeah, pretty much, yeah. Meh-ish character. Just remember that these are all suggestions/ideas, they don't have to be used...

Can we find a different job for her, maybe? I don't really know... Hunter, maybe?

I like the idea of sixth sense. Maybe she could detect treasures with arrows pointing to them in their direction.

Another idea is nine lives. She actually only has two however, due to a series of accidents including one involving a pair of skiis and a lawnmower. This couldncreate some cool puzzles.

No, let's keep it to gems.

So what, 2 hit kill instead of 1 hit point wonders? I think we're getting a little too overboard with Jean's abilities, but maybe, maybe... it does make sense, though.

Hmm, is there going to be a 'switch character' option? Or maybe a secret character unlocked after one finishes the game?

I mean, with the best stats in the game kind of character.

Also, are we going to have a little story behind each of the characters? Or personality?

I think there should be a basic Scratch like Character drawer so you can make your own character; also an enemy drawer with basic programming like move 5 steps 90 degrees wait 0.1 secs then move 5 steps 180 degrees wait 0.1 secs repeat.

Livio will probably do this. The character costumisation is already possible in the demo and Livio intents to keep the costumisability as high as possible.

So why do we have two navigators?

Our current list shows a game where we have 5 characters in the main campaign (plus hugsy when you get to the bonus levels), so if we were to keep Jean and change her occupation, we could make her wall jump as well to make her more interesting. And I think we need another species other than generic "cat". Not sure what occupation she would have, though.

I don't think we need the cat. The speed + poor swimming (though in this case it was no swimming...) is already covered by the armadillo.

hey CSD is right. Unless, maybe, we decide to introduce a wall-jumping mechanic.

If we do that we could use the N wall clinging ability. That should simplify the wall jumps.

How about... fast speed, no swimming except on the surface, wall jump? Climb anything wooden, like platforms?  Since cats can also squeeze through small spaces, perhaps that and a slightly bigger jump as well? I'm trying to apply real-life things here.

Also, basing on her abilities, shouldn't Jean be the scout/hunter of the group? If the characters have personalities I'd imagine Jean being a tomboy, sort of.
