Everyone loves forum games

But so many forum games have been deleted because they are considered spam. Which is why I've got an idea. We should make a forum game section on the Interguild page similar to the recent posts and comments thing, except instead it'll just organize all of the forum games. This way, we can separate the "spam" from actual topics. We could also have a new area of the forums dedicated to forum games, kind of like the Mafia Game Boards.

Meanwhile, I also have some ideas for forum games! Here they are:

-The BREAD Game!-

In this forum game I will find a random picture of bread off the internet and keep it. Meanwhile, all of you guys will find your own pictures of bread and post them on The BREAD Game topic. After 5 people post pictures of bread, I will make a new post showing the piece of bread I chose to be the most similar to the one I picked, as well as the actual piece of bread I picked. The person who posted the piece of bread will then get to do the same thing I did. There are also some extra things such as the person who chooses the main piece of bread has to post that they are ready before anyone can post their own piece of bread. There is also one extra thing. If 5 people don't post pictures of game withing 3 days, then I will just skip to the part where I pick the most similar piece of bread.

-The VIDEO Game!-

Just to let you know, this is not a video game, as in Minecraft or Mario. This is a "video" game as in it has to do with videos. Basically, I will give a certain list of random details. (the list can be 6 details long) The details will give or take points. People will have to try to find videos that match the positive details but not the negative ones. The person who gets the most points wins and gets to pick the next set of details. A list of details would look something like this:

-Has a lot of red (-2 points)
-Has a street lamp in it (+5 points)
-Has someone wearing glasses in it (-5 points)
-Has music somewhere in it (+2 points)

Everyone has at least 1 day to post a new video on the topic before the person who made the list compares the videos. If there is a tie, then the round will be restarted with a new detail list.

I don't know about the bread game, but I feel like the video game would be interesting.

As for the whole giving forum games their own new section thing, maybe we don't need to do that. Perhaps instead we should just unlock some of the previously locked forum games. Any suggestions?

I think that the forum games should get their own section because I kinda agree with the mods about the locked forum games. The forum games got in the way of actual topics which is why I think that they should get their own section. Also, the Mafia Game alone got a board, so why not just make a new board for forum games and get rid of the Mafia board? Instead, you could have the Mafia Game and all the other forum games in one, easy to find spot.

No. We were gonna do this on IC.net as a subforum of general chat (posts there wouldn't count towards the post count), but I was against it because if you have a forum board dedicated to forum games then you're ENCOURAGING people to start them when I'm sure you'd rather have people start topics and post in threads that are actually related to your niche (which is HatPC and gaming here, I guess). Haily used to always talk about how he did this on IC.net in 2008 but he closed the forum after it attracted all these weird people and games, apparently. As for why mafia has it's own board, that's probably so random people don't post there and so it's easier to find the game topics from previous days. I mean, some non-player will feel more welcome to post if it was being played in the random chat forum. Firmly against this.

Thomas, I don't know much about IceCaves.net, but by glancing at your home page I think it's supposed to be a website for website people and programmers or something. If that's the case, then IceCaves.net is definitely more of a serious website than this one, which is all about gaming. Since this is a gaming website, I don't think having a section for forum games will negatively impact it much. After all, the computer games we have on our website could probably attract just as many weird people as forum games.

But I'm really not certain, we should probably have Livio or someone think about this idea more.

That's not my point. We still have forum games on IC.net and lots of communities do. Being a gaming forum doesn't mean you should encourage forum games (which aren't directly associated with your niche, anyway). Most forum games attract low-quality topics/posts like this one or that hangman topic where posts were pretty much five words at the most.

tl;dr: A forum board for forum games encourages low-quality posts. This is not a forum board I would subscribe to.

The whole reason why they were against spammy forum games is because it was annoying to see new topics with posts in them, but it turns out to be a few people guessing some letters in the hangman game or something like that. Making a separate forum for forum games won't change anything about that. Instead we should have forum games that by default produce interesting content (see: The one post topic), or keep forum games interesting (see: what should have been done at the ABCs topic, number of words topic).

I like the organisation idea but I wouldn't say your game ideas suck. If anyone has any good game ideas themselves maybe post them here?
