Whoops.

And the newspost released the Olympics - What I did was that I opened things up for discussion. If you look I said that

The Interguild Olympics is not a rumor, it's the largest competition that we'll ever hold!
and

This will be held during 1st July and 31st August.
clearly stating that the Olympics will be held.

btw, I think we should hold the olympics between July 1st and July 31st. Two months may be way too long. And I think we should release the events accross a period of time, instead of all at once. Like release a new category every 3 days or something, but also make sure that by the time the last one is released, there's enough time left for it

Hm. Thing is, if you start on one cave for one theme, you'll have that finished by the middle of the competition, leaving no time for those started between those points. That is true even with two months as the length of everything.

yeah but also the thing is that this comp is all about joining multiple categories, so we're not really encouraging that people go all out with one level

Decide now. Yes or no. No more pointless chatting, we need solid decisions.

And another note, I'll be gone for nearly the entire month of July (2 week California, 1 week Hawaii and 10 days training through Europe with some friends) and in August I won't have enough time to enter many categories. So I will already say I won't be entering any category, but I will be a full judge.

that list looks good to me. no Line Rider?

and we need a category for Novelty Vids, those are the best.

what do you mean by Gameplay Videos?

Probably the same you mean by Novelty Vids. Not just a a person playing through a level with background music, but a nicely edited video with multiple clips, fitting music and effects.

I don't think all competitions should be solely Olympic themes. There should be a good mix of Archery and Swimming to Freefall and Steel for Olympic and Hatpc-specific themes.

I do, however, think the majority should be Olympic themes.

yeah and I think we should put the zelda and knytt stories together into one event for quest games since I don't think we can expect too many of those

revive! Ok, instead of running exactly for two months, I think we should run it for a standard of 50 days. and then we can organize everything based on that. like release a certain amount of rounds every 5 days, up until the 30th day so that even the last ones can have sufficient time. and then we can put up a counter or something saying that "today is Day 12 out of 50 in the Interguild Olympics"

so here's my update to the current list of rounds: (and I use freestyle as another word for random..., lol lots of freestyles here.)
Quote:
HatPC:
-Speed levels
-Puzzle levels
-Aquatic levels
-freestyle Small levels (smaller than 30x30)
-freestyle Large levels (larger than 60x60)
//I think maybe we should merge these two categories?

Platform games:
-freestyle SeppuKuties levels
-freestyle Shift levels
-freestyle Mario Flash levels
-freestyle N levels
-freestyle for all other Platformer games

Puzzle games:
-freestyle Puzzle games (I'm not even sure we should have this)

Free-Form games:
-freestyle Line Rider + Auto-FreeRider tracks (?? maybe? they're basically the same thing)
-freestyle Free Rider levels (no automatic tracks)

Other games:
-freestyle Quests (either zelda classic or knytt stories)

Videos:
-Best Freestyle Video (can't fall into any other video category)
-Best Walkthrough Video

//OUTSIDE CATEGORIES
//basically overall categories in which every single entry will be taken into consideration during the judging period. I think we should announce these from the beginning instead of hiding them as a surprise so that maybe they'll be motivated to fulfill them if they don't think they can win anywhere else. And when I say "entry" it means both levels and videos will be taken into consideration //
--Best HATPC level submitted
--Best Platformer level submitted
--Best Free Form level submitted
--Most Creative entry
--Most Enjoyable entry
--Best Artistic Appeal
that's a total of 16 rounds/categories but a total of 22 possible awards to win so far. So we could release 3 rounds every 5 days until the 25th day, except for the first day, which will release 4 rounds.

btw, do you think we should allow multiple entries (in competitions in general) as long as they aren't from the same game?

I suggest taking the Freestyle Line Rider + Auto-FreeRider tracks category, put it in Miscellanous and simply do "Best DDA or Line Rider level".

yeah that's even better.
so here's the current list, just to have it on this page:

HatPC:

-freestyle Large levels (larger than 60x60)

btw, are we going to organize the rounds into categories like Misc., Other Games, and HATPC? I don't think we need to, but it'll mostly be assumed.

I don't think we need to either.
It could also be nice to make the Puzzle/Speed levels for any games rather than just HatPC.

I mean that there will still be only 1 Speed level category, but instead of only including HatPC, it will include HatPC, N, Free Rider and all other games.

hey that's a much better idea. I say we should do it. but right now it looks like it'll only really work with platformers.

Is it possible that we could run this for all of Summer? When does summer end exactly? 'Cause I'd really like to submit RoDB for best walkthrough-video.

And are we allowing old caves? I mean, that's a LOT of categories...

so I think we should come up with some multi-game categories, like making a category for Speed Levels with all games, and then maybe take the puzzle games category, and make it a puzzle category for all games. And then we can give each major game its own freestyle category, except for HATPC which has two apparently. so with my idea in mind:
Quote:

-Speed levels
-Puzzle levels
-Best DDA/Auto Level + Line Rider

-Aquatic HATPC levels //what about this? should we keep it?
-freestyle HATPC Small levels (smaller than 30x30)
-freestyle HATPC Large levels (larger than 60x60)

-freestyle SeppuKuties levels
-freestyle Shift levels
-freestyle Mario Flash levels
-freestyle N levels
-freestyle for all other Platformer games
-freestyle Free Rider levels (no automatic tracks)
-freestyle Quests (either zelda classic or knytt stories)

yeah it is a lot. but I'm assuming people will be allowed to enter the same levels into different categories. I hope 50 days is enough, but maybe we should start merging some of these categories. maybe one for HATPC freestyle?

Perhaps we should have a few more HATPC-specific categories? (Like boulders, dynamite, cherries, etc) It's either that or get rid of aquatic, I think. And how am I gonna submit RoDB if this ends in August??????

As it is now, there are 15 categories. If we do 3 each week, it will last 5 weeks. I think that is reasonable.
And I say no to aquatic HatPC levels. I'd rather have a fourth multi-game category.

sounds good. but I think it should last longer than 5 weeks. Maybe every week, we'll release another 3 categories, but the final deadline for everything will be on the 7th week.

I don't get this idea of releasing them over time. You mean, the final categories, you get less time to make levels for them? What? If you wanna do gradual, then each one has to end a set amount of time after it's started.

I think the main idea is that each category will run for 1 or 2 weeks.
If we merge Quest Levels and Platformer levels in 1 category and either merge the two HatPC categories or remove SeppuKuties, there are 12 categories. 3 categories per week for a month.

well, if we release them all at once, it'll be kinda overwhelming and eventually people might even forget about it. releasing them gradually will keep things interesting at least. And we'll be sure to release the big categories first and yeah... and It'd just be much easier to have everything end at once so that you aren't forced to make your entries in a specific order
