I updated the layout. The biggest point of the update was to fit an advertisement at the top of the screen ( ), but hopefully navigation should be much easier with the bigger set of links at the top of the page.

It took me forever to make this redesign this part of the layout. lol, I redesigned and redesigned it until I finally found something that worked. In some drafts, I made some complete radical changes in the organization, only to loop myself back into something that looks very similar to the original layout.

Anyway, comment on the new update, and post any potential issues you may find.

EDIT: Oh and some of you may have to press Ctrl+F5 to reload the altered CSS file...

EDIT 2: Oops. If you use the old color scheme, this layout will be broken for you. I knew I was forgetting something...

So we should start clicking on the ads on every page we go to?
it is against our contract to suggest or imply that I tell visitors to click on the ads.

plus they track how long you actually stay on the sites, so they can tell if you might've clicked on a link by accident....

I clicked the ad that promoted AdWords...

How many ad-clickings do you need to make a dollar?

OK, I don't like the new description. "Level-Designing Community" seems to best describe what we are. Perhaps something involving "User-Created Content" or "UCC" would more accurately describe what we're about, but the former is too wordy and the latter too obscure. What's there now is also too wordy and sounds like it's a community for games and not for people.

I think the top two bars should be combined into one. The separation between them looks off, and their shadings clash.

I was wondering what would happen to some of those top links is I weren't logged in. I clicked on "Add New Level" and the page I was directed to was disgusting. I noticed that, on short pages, the blue bar is now up at the top, but the rest of the page still moves down. I think it's being centered against the vertically, or something.

I don't think wordiness matters here b/c we're not making a slogan or motto or something. It's main purpose is to describe who we are in a quick way.

lol "community for games and not for people". Then maybe we can change "for" into "about"? It'd become even longer, though.

And there's something just weird about calling something a "level-designing community". I dunno, it just weird....

And I don't get those page stretches in Firefox. I actually made sure that such a thing wouldn't happen...

And I've looked for ways to combine the bars into one, but I just couldn't make it work. It felt like there had to be some kind of divider or something between the title and the links. I dunno, designing that part was really tough.

Wordiness does matter, because anybody coming to the site is going to assume that it's a slogan.

And a slogan's main purpose is to describe who we are in a quick day as well, so we might as well have one of those instead of a random, wordy little description that's going to give everyone a crappy first impression.

I thought of changing it to about, but that doesn't fix that it's inherently too long.

I'm using FF, but to see it logged out, I used IE, lol, so that's why I saw the gap. Seriously though, that gap does not look good AT ALL. IE is the more popular of the browsers, so it's important that the layout look correct in it as well.

It's weird? I totally understand your argument?

lol I think I already explained it before. You don't see too many things out there called a "level-making community", so it's not like most people will automatically know what you're talking about. If I was a newcomer I might wonder "what kind of levels is this site about?" or even "do they design levels for companies or something?" or "I didn't know there were entire communities dedicated to all that is level design. They probably look into all these crazy games and critique their levels or something." Lol, it's stupid, I know, but that's what would probably flash through my mind during those first few seconds. It's not like people automatically click into what a general level-making community is.

I dunno, I would naturally think, "this is too long to be a slogan. It must be a description." I mean, it's not like other sites don't offer brief descriptions of themselves like that. And wait, what kind of horrible slogan is "level-making community"? lol But what I was saying is that if you went to a site called "ActionScript Fans" or something, and then under that they put "Help Site about Actionscript", you wouldn't really assume that that was suddenly their slogan, would you?

Fine, just change "for" to "about". But then it sounds like we're about the games and not the User-Created Content.

A Community about User-Created Content for Games?

I'll fix that hopefully tomorrow, and also look into any more IE glitches. In IE, I also get a space between the chatbox and the recent posts box that I never fixed.

Shouldn't it be 'for' rather than 'about'? It doesn't make sense for a community to be 'about' anything in my opinion. 'For' isn't much better, but it fits better than 'about. I really like the slogan, but there's something that tells me it should be reworded... Damn.

No, "About" sounds much better to me, at least - stick with it.
