btw, we could also use an explosion sound effect, like from dynamite. Maybe try coming up with different magnitudes of explosions, too.

Also, the point of the game is to collect a certain amount of some item in order to open the door. We're still working on what that "some item" will be. For a long time, we were going with a "Power Box", which looked almost like a battery:

In case we end up going with that, perhaps you could make a some sound effects for it. I imagine it'd have the same sounds as the indy-crate but we could use something for the when you grab the powerbox.

However, the other concept we've been thinking of lately is to have some kind of energy cell/orb that is easily absorbed by other objects, and in some levels the cell is already absorbed by an object, such as a steel or wooden crate, and that object will have to be destroyed if the player wants to grab it. We could use some sound effects for when the object is absorbed into an object and another for when absorbed by the player.

Ok.  for the explosion.  do you want a long or short explosion.  I'm guessing shorter, and poppier.

As for the power charge crate.  I have a good idea for that sound.    I will play around with sounds for absorption.

I will probably work on them all tonight as well as reup the splash noises.  At the latest by tomorrow.

here is the updated SFX.  Updates include:

New sounds for:
- Power Crate
- Crate Explosion
- Absorption Ideas

Updated Sounds for:
- Boulder Falls (added a little more thud to get rid of hollowness)

Fixed Sounds (Hopefully)
- Re-exported Object Splash in Water Files.  Let me know if they work.

it works! I can listen to the Object Splash in Water ones now. They sound okay. Maybe a little too long, but it also depends on how long we make the splash animation. At first I thought they sounded too swishy, but it made more sense if I imagined the splash going on.

Hmm, the absorptions sound really watery. However, I really like the Power Crate, and those very sound effects could end up working well for fuel cell idea.

And the boulder fall sounds do sound better

As for the explosions, I'm worried it sounds too close the thuds of the other sound effects. Maybe somehow make it sound more like a fiery explosion, whereas it sounds like a clean cannon shot right now.

I will work on the explosion tomorrow.  MORE FIERY HE SAYS!  LESS BOOMY.  Got ya.

I can also drastically shorten the splash sounds, and edit them in a lot of different ways.  I have a lot of flexibility left with those sounds.  Like you said though, lets wait to hear them in the game.

I just now downloaded it, and I think that they're pretty good

I'll leave Livio up to giving criticisms, though, since I haven't heard these matched up with the actual game.

I'll work on updating the jump sound today as well.  Jump sounds are tough though because it can literally be anything....  In reality, what does jumping sound like?  Really nothing.  Maybe a tiny bit of air movement and rustling of clothes.  You might do a little grunt or something.  I know you said you didnt want something musical, so is there any specific direction you want me to head with this?

I will experiment with some field recording around my apartment today, but let me know if you guys have any suggestions for the jump.  Thanks

Then maybe we should experiment with musical jump sounds. Most games have that kind of thing anyway. As long as it doesn't turn out to be annoying.

I think a landing sound is more important than a jumping sound.

But there should be at least one sound letting you know that the character is jumping, cause maybe the character goes offscreen somehow.

no the game doesn't do any collision tests off screen, so unless you make it so that you can jump in mid-air, then you won't have to worry about that.

No, that's not the point. Most people are used to a jump sound, we should add an option to turn sound FX on and off.

hmm.  I still think some sort of rustling will work best.  I think there HAS to be a jump sounding.  Like I said, i think the first crate bump idea will work well for the landing.  I will make its own folder in the next update.  I will experiment with some musical type of jumps as well.

Update 3

http://www.mediafire.com/?b2i6e9m7debvfug

Really small update guys.

- 2 new crate explosion sounds in "Crate Explosions"
- New Jump Sound idea

I'm starting to pack up for moving, so I won't have as much time, if any for about 2 weeks.  So if you don;'t hear from me, you know where I am.
