The new layout has finally been released! However, I have to say that the implementation of the layout was rushed, so there may be several glitches throughout the site. As of right now, the video archive hasn't even been updated yet, because it would've been easier to update that section after moving everything else over. And I'm also going to be going somewhere right now, so I won't be able to fix it until I get back.

The reason everything was rushed was because I'm currently in my last few days of my Spring Break, and once I go back to school, I'll be too preoccupied with AP Tests and it would be a long while until I could get anything done again. I was planning to update the whole design of the level database, but because I had to rush this through, I put aside all of the work I did so far and just reused the old level database pages. I'm still planning to revamp the database, but like I said it's gonna be a while before I can get around to it.

Anyway, about the new design, I completely got rid of the sidebar, allowing more room for content on the page. You now use the drop-down headers at the top of the page to get around the site. The homepage has received probably the most effort. We now have a Featured Content slider, which will feature the best levels and videos on the site. I plan to update it weekly as another part of the Weekly Updates. The news has also been moved to its own page, as opposed to having everything on the homepage.

There are probably lots of glitches and issues around the site, so please point them out.

Why can't I change the layout to the original ones? Some people liked them!

oh yeah I forgot to mention a bunch of stuff:

you can't change the layout to the old one

click on the date next to your chatbox posts to edit it.

staff members, you can find your staff powers under the "Forums & Community" set of links

when you browse through the competitions section, you'll be linked to news posts instead. If that comp has no news post (such as comps held before this site), then it'll bring you to the old comp pages.

The search on the top right isn't as cool as I was originally planning. I wanted to make it so that when you rolled over it, options would come up to search through videos, forums, or guides, but I guess I'll figure out how to do that some other day.

I like it so far. No wasted space and the featured content box is awesome. It's starting to look very professional now.

Suggestion: the drop-down lists could do with a wider and prettier scrolling bar. I keep losing the lists due to the tiny width of the bar and it doesn't fit with the rest of the layout aesthetically.

I could definitely make them wider. But the thing with these drop down lists is that they don't use a single bit of javascript, so that it's ensured to work on every computer. And because of that, I couldn't add a kind of "buffer" so that they don't close right away if your mouse leaves it. I could probably add it if I was more familiar with javascript.

also: rollover a person's name in the online box and you will see how long ago was their last page load.

You still can't refresh the online members box.

I'm not sure if you've mentioned this, but the karma for levels looks really weird in IE and Chrome.

i think its very cool. altho i think it would look better if the post borders in the forums were black instead of dark grey.

also, do u want me to start writing the surveys Accel? we could put them up but that doesnt mean u hav to change the layout, cos gathering data over a long period of time is always useful and will give u more accurate statistics.

just tried making it black, and it didn't work well. It's too harsh of a contrast, and for it to work, the background would also have to be darker.

and if we're gonna put up surveys, I feel like that should be done when the layout implementation still isn't so glitchy and after we've finished putting up all of the changes.

i see, it just feels like something is missing lol. not sure tho. maybe more of the orange/yellow bourder. but thatd probably ruin it.

K man, its a deal. in the mean time tho, can i put up a thread with suggestions for questions on the survey? with input from everyone

sure.

right now I'm working on the video archive. Then I'll probably post the weekly update, in which I'll put the first official list of featured content for the slider on the homepage to replace the stuff we have up right now.

wow I didn't know how many people relied on that link. I usually use my desktop shortcut, or at least the [open game] link when you view a level.

You could click on the GAMES tab at the top of the page, then when the new page loads, click on HATPC and the link to the window should be there.

I'm gonna add that link somewhere else now..

UPDATE: In the games list that comes out of the rollover header, click on the icon next to each game name to open that game in a new window. Clicking the icon next to HATPC opens the HATPC window.

Just like Catta can't have any more name changes for another year, you can't have any more lay-out changes for another year.

don't worry jell. I'm hoping this layout will last us for all time. Making this layout made me realize how much I hate web design anyway.

plus, in chrome, when you type in a messagebox, there's an orange thing that surrounds it, and it gets too-to-the-right. that is in pms too.

that doesn't seem to be an issue. The highlighting doesn't stretch anything out, at least.

UPDATE: I'm trying something weird. Roll over the HATPC link in the Games tab, and you'll see more HATPC links come up. But that can be a little hard to use if your browser doesn't let you scroll through it using your mouse wheel (or if you don't have a mouse wheel)

Could you add a delay for opening and closing those menus? Especially with the HatPC expanding, it can get difficult reaching the games directly underneath it.

Yeah, my browser, I guess, doesn't let me mouse wheel through those menus. It was already annoying, but now it's just stupid. I was think you'd spawn a flyout instead of having it show up beneath.

Cavelist pages don't have anything in the title bar. Plenty of errors at the bottom. I didn't look for more problems, but I'd bet they're there.

oops. I didn't even edit those page.

and yeah the menus are just getting annoying. I think I'll get rid of the extra HATPC drop-down links. I couldn't get the thing to come out from the outside, mainly because of the way it's set up so that it can work without javascript. Like I said, if I knew more javascript, I could probably add a timer that could delay the onMouseOut even or something.

Actually, what if I make the extra HATPC links look exactly how they do now, except that they'll be there constantly? Meaning that you wouldn't have to roll over to see them.
