This Week on the Interguild.org:

Livio didn't show up this week. In fact, even though he participated during April fools day while logged into to a_neezles_a's account, his account hasn't officially been online since last month.

Shos is in need of a new avatar, so we've(and by we I mean jell did) made a topic for that cause! We're past avatar nominations, and have moved onto the voting stage, where we vote for which avatar we want to win.

Isa is seeing if we have enough people willing to give a fifth mafia game a shot. So far I think we have about 4-6 people willing to play along with 2 people who apparently are interested in hosting, and also Isa.

Silver's birthday was this past weekend. Normally it might not get mentioned in the weekly update, but it did garner its own topic, and it hasn't been a busy week, so I try to fill this thing to the brim with as much stuff as possible.

Speaking of which, Dando made a post this week, but it was about something that didn't exist when she declared that she was putting of that one post, so we do not think that she has made that one post that she's been putting off on yet. If we hear anything new, you can count on us to not be the first to report about it here on the weekly update.

In other news, Thomas has been crowned the official king of the chatbox. Using his newly acquired title, he's made plans, but thus far they have not been implemented; The chatbox ban feature remains, there is no official enforcement against obnoxious chatbox names, and at least four times people have used the phrase "This chat box belongs to Quirvy".

Post of the week: Dando's interpretation of my avatar nomination
Fail of the week: Shavey Dave's big trollface
Duds of the week: Everyone who nominated an avatar to shos got a -1 and a +1 to their post

And now for your weekly chatbox standings!

I feel like you might be a little biased here since you're on the receiving end.
Once you know how to make a graphic swirl... you can make a dozen more.

I rarely see HatPC levels and the sort get +'d. in my own personal opinion, the artwork doesn't blow me away.
first time i see it, "Hey that's pretty cool!"
second time, "hey... isn't that the same thing with different colours?"
fifteenth time... "k this is old."

karma's generally just passed around to either "respected" members or anyone caught in your neverending +1'ing chain.
you're writing here: It gets karma because people like it and it's, well, good art.

i agree that it's good, but i feel like it's the same few people who're just constantly upping the amounts on those pictures.

Well, if you think the art thread is bad, the jokes thread is just as bad.

The art thread does have a lot of karma handed out freely, but the problem there is that there's also a lot of people negating the positive votes just because they're, well, positive.

Meanwhile the jokes thread doesn't have that. Just a whole lot of posts with some very green numbers at the tops. Karma is given out very freely there.

Which is a shame because most of the jokes in the thread are lame, lame one-liners found in the back of TV guides, or lame meme/image jokes taken from elsewhere, and they get a lot of karma just because "lulz." The art thread has a lot of art with a lot of effort put into it and that art a) doesn't get karma at all, or b) gets karma, but is instantly negated.

The jokes thread is bad but that's rarely up on the top.
i see the art thread at the top every day.

and i haven't seen ANY pictures recently that haven't been +'d
i don't really think you're getting my point here.

in the jokes thread, posts are +'d by whoever thinks it's funny.
in the art thread, posts are +'d by THE SAME PEOPLE. and that's much more frequent.

To me, a funny or original or clever post deserves a +.  Only problem is that when you've posted something, even though it might be good and it takes you time, it's something that's expected of you.  It's unoriginal,, since most other posts are like it.  It doesn't stand out as a good one because it's become the average for you.  If Shos was to start making a bunch of posts about math, and they were good enough that you wanted to read them, eventually they become what you expect from him, and it's the average for him.  If a post should get karma'd if you think it stands out, then why rate it if it's what he always does?

That's because there's quite a few people who like making art, like myself, and post it there, and they make art a lot, too.
Art is a big thing, more popular than jokes, and art is also a very driving thing, you see it everywhere, so what more would you expect of an art thread?

Just for the record:
Silver has recieved 41 karma rates from the art thread; of which 3 are negative.
Cedric has recieved 17 karma rates from the art thread; of which 2 are negative.
Silver has rated 20 posts in the art thread.
Cedric has rated 24 posts in the art thread.

These are dry stats, without any info about who and from whom.

Hey shos I thought Cedric was using some other account called Internationeezle Day or something to karma rate as well so did you take those into account?

Anyway, I have not read much here but yeah, too many karma rates in the art thread. It was okay at first but now this art is getting really similar (especially from Cedric); just open Photoshop and apply the cloud filter, add swirls, add wave filter, etc. then upload it and post it. That probably takes 5 minutes at the most. It's alright when posts like this one with lots of content get the karma but if your post gets karma with little content like this one then that's a problem.

First of all, I'm not even sure if shos should have released the information about how many times Cedric and Silver have rated posts in the Art Thread. With that said, he only used Internationeezle Day to rate 2 posts, none of which were in the Art Thread. You need to stop obsessing over Cedric and what he's doing with his karma and stuff. You're an

Second of all, I agree with jokes topic getting too much karma when someone posts there. Very little of that are actually original jokes, and it seems kind of weird to me that we should reward someone for saying something that they didn't come up with. There are a couple of original jokes here and there, but I feel like a lot of the jokes, you could put into google, and find elsewhere on the internet. Like jell's really long story that he copy+pasted and proceeded to get +11 karma on that post.

Thomas, weren't you the one who gained +9 karma just by copy and pasting a few of your posts that got positive praise into one image, and added some text that said "1000th post!" ? That in all could've taken 5-10 minutes.

Man, you two are like unofficial antagonists.

In Thomas' defense, if he hasn't already defended himself:

1. He didn't ask for all of that Karma. People gave it to him. And he doesn't do those things on a consistent basis.
2. He didn't get karma because it was art, he got it because it was humorous, his 1000th post, and he took good lengths to put it together
3. That actually probably took him at least 30 minutes to do. He had to hunt down posts that he wanted to use, and then arrange them in a manner so that only those with positive karma showed their karma rating, and that takes more time than you might think.

The main thing here, though, it that it was a special occasion. It would be different if he did that for every hundred posts, reminiscing on his previous 100 posts.

What was Bang Jan? You mean he -1d a lot of +1d posts? It doesn't matter who it was, as long as they don't do it.

Oh, you can just remove all the text that you're not using so you're left with the link, like this:

It uses up a lot of excessive space. Or, you can just put it in a spoiler.
