Just three days ago was the ninth anniversary of the September 11 attacks in New York, which is a big day for Americans. However, this year's 9/11 seemed to be filled with a lot more controversy and anger than usual, which is really just plain disrespectful especially considering that the event is still a fairly recent one. And to make it worse, the plan to rebuild the towers hasn't made much progress after all these years. Remember Teh Marz's Cave Search? It was like a cross between our CaveList and the Google search engine. Unfortunately, it seems like his site has gone down. He's actually moved to http://lubutu.com/, but it does not seem like he brought the CaveList with him. Sprout's HatPC Research Blog has had some interesting developments lately, for those of you interested in jell's attempt to find all these crazy stats about how HATPC works, which could potentially become useful in later projects to recreate HATPC inside Aeon's settings. Last Tuesday was Isa's 18th birthday. This comes just three days after my own 18th birthday. If you thought long enough about it, you could say Isa was my second evil twin. From Sweden. There's been a lot of great Aeon progress in the music department. The_grimace has been writing some really amazing songs for the game, which you really should download and listen to, if you haven't yet. Meanwhile the biggest progress in the graphics department is that the header post was finally updated after a few weeks of neglect. Krotomo has also made an attempt at drawing a door, but we could use some more contributions. But how's the programming coming along? Well, the bad news is that, I've made virtually no progress with the game. But I do have some good news. I found this really cool Flash Developer Environment program, which makes programming in Flash a lot easier and more convenient. The program is called Adobe Flash Builder 4. It's not free, but if you can prove to Adobe that you are a student, then they'll give it to you for free! They also give the software away to teachers (who don't plan to distribute it to their students, that costs extra) and to the unemployed, who need help finding a job in this recession. I plan to download it this weekend, when I go home, where I can scan the necessary documents for free, as opposed to paying a fee at the library. Earlier today, I had a Gmail Chat with Dekudude for about two hours. It was a long, exciting discussion about Aeon and the crazy amount of customization that I'm planning to add and the possible problems it could bring up. We ended up coming up with a really cool idea, which I will present later in a blog post (it's also about time we started an Aeon blog). But the conversation started with Dekudude suggesting that we look for more artists who are interested in contributing to Aeon. Perhaps we could find some interested people on Kongregate or something. That then somehow led me to the following realization: I'm at a university; I could easily find people here with the skills we need. Not only can I find computer artists, spriters, or graphic designers, but I could also find programmers to help with the game's development. I could even potentially find people interested in writing music. While you could find such people on the Internet, there's something about being able to meet with them in person that makes you feel like they might actually contribute something--and not just come to the site for a some time, lose interest, and disappear. Anyway, I'm sure there were plenty of cool levels released this week, but I didn't get the time to play many of them. I did try Return Trip, which I thought was pretty cool, and which everyone else seemed to like a lot more than I did. However, Quiescence has gotten two very high reviews from the very credible GF4 and Dando. The only post this week to get negative karma: Shos threatens (??) to start the chatbox singing again Post of the Week: Harumbai responding to Yaya's question on New Zealand and Wikipedia User Comments (8)
