I've been taking Italian for coming on 6 years now, and I still don't know any Italian. For some reason, I signed up for another Italian course for next year - currently scrambling to relearn everything I didn't learn in the first place. Otherwise, pretty good.

What darvince said, but I found a job I can work as for a career before applying to any colleges so I decided to at least try it out before I tried collegeing

While I was writing up that crazy post on the anniversary topic, I realized that Flashmarsh is 18 years old, and for some reason that seems weird to me. Snowman is too. Like I've always had the impression of a lot of people on this site being kids, and now they're adults.
People who're 18/19, how does it feel to be an adult? Is it as exciting as you always dreamed it would be?

I can legally kill myself with liver cancer too. Isn't that the best?
I mean, it's not like the legal age cutoffs mean anything (except in the eyes of the law). Becoming an adult is a gradual process. I don't think it's done happening to me, not by a long shot.

College was great for me. Well, the campus community at my college was great (as in, full of geeks like me). Classes were sorta eh. Depends a lot on which classes you take.

In the UK you choose a degree and can only take classes from within that | | DroidFreak36 |

I take responsibility for the peak in activity I think.
And you don't have any electives in the UK? I mean, if you pick a degree like Engineering in the US you don't have many, but you can still take a few classes for fun. And even within your degree program there are core classes which can be fun.

Yeah for real turning 18 doesn't really mean anything. IDK what it's like in the UK (or elsewhere, like NZ), but in the US the transition for high school to college is pretty big, but I don't think it's as jarring as the transition from college to having a job (or high school to having a job, although I don't really know what that's like).
College is really cool. Appreciate it, people who are in college or are just now getting into college. Try to get to know the people on your floor and make friends and stuff (assuming you live in a dorm. If not, ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)
Also, yes, you are responsible for this influx of activity, Droid. A lot of us haven't been able to (easily) play hatpc in years so your project is pretty exciting.

I think also (speaking for myself) some time out was good. It does relate to this college discussion though I call it university. 5 years ago I went to university and it was awesome but also a change that lead to not having so much time for HatPC and the interguild. I started using facebook a lot, I discovered the joys of binge watching tv and most importantly I discovered the joys of studying super hard in order to get grades which overall don't mean much other than whether people will give you money later to keep getting those grades. I also to an extent did lose interest in playing computer games for a while. The interguild moved on to minecraft which I didn't really play (but now I do, quite a lot earlier this year [woo eggwars!]) and I just fell out of touch.
But then the facebook post about Droid's new clone of HatPC made me intrigued and so I'm back here for now anyway (and now hatpc works coincidentally too...). I actually was back here reminiscing about old times all of about 3 days before this happened too so the timing was quite appropriate really.

in Israel finishing highschool (or actually, turning 18) is important because you then join the army, and that's a big deal. My choices in life are very unusual in here, so the fact that I've taken uni so soon is different.
I'm soon finishing my masters in physics, I hope
