It was a seemingly ordinary day in the Neopets office. The writers were writing, the animators were animating, the programmers were drinking, and Doug Dohring was sitting in his office with a smile on his face.
"You know," he said to Buttons, the fluffy white kitten sleeping on his desk. "I had some reservations at first, but I'm glad we turned down Viacom's proposal. We may not be making as much money as we could be, but everyone seems pretty happy with the decision, and the site is doing well as it is. I think we'll be just fine."
An employee burst into his office with a frantic look on her face. "Sir!" she said. "Our servers are down!"
"What?" Doug responded, snapping out of his happy lull. "How come?"
"We're not sure, but the entire office has lost its internet connection. We tried to call the maintenance guys, but none of the phones are working."
   "Then use a cell phone."
   "Nobody can get a signal."
Doug checked his own phone, and then sat in thought for several seconds, baffled. "How strange..." he finally said. "Go tell Adam. I think he's downstairs."
The employee nodded and hurried off. Doug stood up from his chair, took a sip of coffee from his Krawk Island-themed cup, and gazed out his window at the greying sky. The technical upkeep of the site was not his responsibility, but he was glad that the employees kept him up to date on what was going on. If there was a problem, he knew that they would get it fixed as soon as they could.
He picked up a decorative Usul figurine sitting on his windowsill and examined it fondly. He was still in good spirits, but he could not deny that there had been a strange and slightly ominous feeling pervading the office as of late. He assumed it was just a lingering sense of uncertainty from some of his recent decisions, but no matter how he reasoned, he couldn't help but feel put off by it. He wondered if it could be related to some of the strange problems that had been cropping up lately.
He brought the Usul figurine closer to his face, his brows furrowing into a scrutinizing stare. One of its eyes had a strange kind of reflection to it...
"AAAAAHHHH!" There was a shrill, terrible scream from the main foyer. Doug jumped, spilling his coffee, and then raced out of his office to see what was the matter. As he charged down the stairs from the upper floor, an odd smell caught his nose, and when he rounded the final corner to the building's lobby, he was unprepared for the scene that awaited him.
The Neopets Team were in a frenzy. Everybody had grief and fear stricken on their faces, and it didn't take long for Doug to see why. Sprawled on the floor by the main entrance, in front of the office's two life-sized Scorchio models, was a corpse, smouldering and charred beyond recognition.
"It's Adam..." said a nearby employee, his voice shaking. "He was on his way out, but the Scorchios... they have some kind of flamethrower in their mouths! It was terrifying! I've never seen someone in so much pain...!"
Doug was at a loss for words. He stood amidst his panicked and weeping coworkers for a long while, unsuccessfully trying to make sense of what had happened, before finally he decided that he needed a quiet place to think and collect himself. He retreated back up to his office and collapsed into his chair, overcome by a cold sweat. To his surprise, his phone began to ring. He picked it up.
   "Hello?!"
   "You sound tense, Mr. Dohring."
"Who is this? Listen, there's been some kind of accident! I need you to send an ambulance to--"
The man on the phone began to laugh. It was a cruel, terrible laugh that ate away the last of Doug's composure.
"You and your team are about to learn a very difficult lesson," he said, his voice suddenly harsh and grim. "Viacom are not the type of people you say no to."
"What...? Viacom?" Slowly, it dawned on Doug. "My god... what have you done? Are you insane?!"
"I see that my employees have finished booby-trapping the exits. Or should I say, your employees." He chuckled. "Keep on your toes, Mr. Dohring. You may be surprised at what we are capable of. Good bye!"
The line went dead, and not a second later, Doug was being assaulted by a fluffy white ball of death.
   "Buttons, no! NOOOOOOO!"
The Neopets Team discovered Doug shortly afterwards, his face disfigured by the Viacom feline's vicious mauling. Convulsing and sputtering blood, he managed to speak only a few words to them before falling unconscious:  "Viacom... Find them and kill them, before it's too late..."

The Neopets Mafia Game has begun!

Some Quick Reminders:

- If you are not playing in this game, do not post in this thread.
- Do not talk about the game outside this thread -- this includes other threads, the chatbox, and especially through private messages. The mafia and the dead each have their own secret forum in which they are permitted to talk about the game.
- Do quote -- or pretend to quote -- your role PM.
- Do not edit your posts, even if just fixing a trivial mistake. Just this once, double posting is preferred.
- Stay active! Anybody who isn't posting enough may be replaced!
- Please bold any Votes, Unvotes, or Fingers of Suspicion!
- Feel free to PM me any questions you may have. Remember to wait for a reply before sending a second PM, as we have only limited space in our inboxes.

The goal of the day phase, for the town-affiliated, is to find any lynch a member of the mafia. If you believe somebody to be a member of the mafia, you may vote for him or her (Vote by saying Vote: Livio, for example). You can only vote for one person at a time, but, if your opinions change, you can change your vote ("Unvote" by saying Unvote: Livio, for example). Once more than half of the alive players have voted for a single player, that player is lynched and removed from the game, ending the day phase. Now, voting isn't just for lynching, however. A crucial part of this game is observing how people are voting and how they are responding to being voted for. The mafia is trying to blend in with you, but they won't want each other to be lynched. Everything everybody says is a subtle clue in deciphering who is mafia and who isn't.

Periodically throughout the day I will post vote counts. If you would like me to post an updated vote count, say so, and I will if I can. I forgot to mention this before, but along with voting you can also "FoS" and "unFoS" people, to let them know that, at the least, you're finding them suspicious. Please bold these as well (FoS: Livio, for example), as I will post them along with vote counts. Unlike votes, you can FoS as many people as you like, but they don't actually have any affect on the game, other than officially making your suspicions known.

Roster:

- shos
- soccerboy13542
- Yuggy
- Yaya
- Silver
- Isa
- Shavey Dave
- Thomas
- canadianstickdeath
- snipereborn
- Jazz
- Harumbai
- Jellsprout

With 13 alive, it takes 7 votes to lynch.
Deadline for the day phase: January 15, 2012, 11:59PM Interguild Time.

Poor Adam. He has always been my favorite TNT member. It is a shame that he has to go before the game has even begun.

Anyway,
Vote: Thomas
The game has been underway for almost half an hour, yet you haven't posted yet? I thought you had some alert system for this kind of stuff. Discussing a game strategy with you scum fellows, are you?

And Shos, I think you can karma rate in the game, but not in the Graveyard or Mafia Forum. Dando, could you perhaps clarify this for us?

See me ride out of the sunset
On your colored TV screen
Out for all that I can get
If you know what I mean
Women to the left of me
Women to the right
Ain't got no gun
got no knife
Don't you start no fight

Cos I'm
T.N.T.
I'm Dynamite
T.N.T.
And I'll win the fight
T.N.T.
I'm a power-load
T.N.T.
Watch me Explode

I'm dirty, mean and mighty unclean
I'm a Wanted man
Public Enemy Number One
Understand
So lock up your daughter
And lock up your wife
Lock up your back door
And run for your life
The man is back in town
So don't you mess around

Cos I'm
T.N.T.
I'm Dynamite
T.N.T.
And I'll win the fight
T.N.T.
I'm a power-load

Thomas, your obnoxiousness is blinding. Anyways, I'm truly honored to be one of your probable bashing candidates in the near future. I'll take a random ass guess and say the mafia is Shos, snipereborn, and Shavey Dave.

I do like how everyone's forgone FoS's so far, lol.
