Is the server updated to 1.7.2? I can't log on.

EDIT: Nevermind.

Wheat and other foods shouldn't get destroyed when you jump on them, is there any way to disable that on Survival?

When I just got on to the server on Survival, I was back at spawn and had nothing in my inventory.  Also, I had no experience and it was as though I had just respawned, but I didn't die before I logged on.

You guys obviously noticed that the server has been having issues as of late.  I am going to post a more detailed explanation tomorrow, but the important thing is that we've had to restore the survival world to a backup from October 18th.  We are going to use WE on a personal server to copy some builds that have been altered into the backup.  I feel like I'm not explaining this well enough.  We're going to copy some October 29th builds into the backup so as to prevent all the progress people have made from being lost.

I think I need sleep.  Since we can't import everything we need to know what it is that you want imported.

Yeah... sleep...

When you copy chests with stuff in them, do the items get copied too?

Can you save my progress on my house and my money?  Last time I checked (that I can remember), I had about $1,162.00 or somewhere around that amount.

Woah, I'm actually somehow glad that the server had problems, because you had to reset it to an 18th October backup, and I didn't have any changes in my house then. After that, I made some changes but it didn't look good IMO and I decided it looked way better before. I hope there won't be any trouble to fix the further problems and flaws as soon as it's possible, and be ready to explore the server on 1.7.2.

1.7.2 won't be out for quite some time, as the Bukkit team takes a long time to update.

The survival world has been fixed now.  Any builds mentioned were restored and old inventories were brought back.  If there is anything else that's important that you lost, don't hesitate to let us know.

So yeah, no one decided to post about it as for now, and since the 1.7.2 bukkit might appear sometime soon, we had an idea.

Since the survival world has been really laggy and buggy lately, what about creating a new, fixed and refreshed world? We could build the infrastructure in better ways and renovate it. The biggest plus is that the world would be fully 1.7.2 compatible, so it means all the new biomes will be applied to the world already from the start. It would probably mean beating the entire game from the beginning, beating the Ender Dragon, and stuff. The main shop would have adjusted prices and we could turn up the economy at some point. Thomas has also proposed a hard mode for the new world. From what I heard, lots of people enjoyed it and after some longer thoughs I think it would be actually a quite interesting idea. The normal difficulty is just too easy at times and playing at the old world could become boring at times.

We thought a poll about those changes would be appreciated. Of course those things are mostly diametric alterations and it's not something that takes only 5 minutes to think about, but think about all the positive points the new world is offering. So well, anyone happens to try and give his opinions about this initiative?

We could also try to spread out more so that when our houses are complete we don't just stop there and then never have anything impressive.

The server is at 1.6.2 right now... It was at 1.6.4 before, why the change?

I feel like a lot of people might be opposed to starting the survival server over from scratch, since there's been so much work put into the current server, but I would definitely support it. I'm not a fan of whoever explored all of that inside of the boundaries, limiting how much of the server would be 1.7.2 generated, and besides that starting over would also mean no weird border between the present map and the newly generated 1.7.2 areas. It might be nicer to be starting out fresh rather than having to move outward and start a new city bordering the 1.7.2 region(s), that people would have to travel to if they wanted to see the 1.7.2 regions. And I also just think that our server is starting to look kind of sloppy, and it would be nice to get a fresh start, where we would ideally be more coordinated about certain things (or at least the spawn area). Primary example being that right by Thomas' house there are these 2 ridiculously enormous projects that have been under construction for like 2 months. My issues with them (or more specifically, the way that they came to be):

1. From what I understand, I believe that those are going to be "houses" (haven't heard that directly from the people building them, though). That's way too big to be a house. I think that anything that big should be a public building, like how The Hotel is building open to all for beds, food and the mob maze.

2. And with that in mind, I think that if someone is going to build something like that, it should have to go through some sort of approval process. Given that this is the survival server, if you make something and then decide later that it doesn't look as good as you'd hoped, fixing it (or removing it if it's that bad) is going to be very difficult and time consuming. I know that originally the one with a few floors done was originally being built right next to Thomas' house and needed to be moved. Stuff like that shouldn't happen. And besides that, if it's going to be so big (and as such, likely a very prominent addition to our server), it should probably be heard/seen by others before it's actually built. This is something that I don't think I really did with The Hotel, that I probably should have in retrospect, not necessarily because I think it looks bad or anything like that, but just because it sets a bad precedent. But I think I at least showed the blueprints to Thomas (and there also was a lot of consulting for what type of wood to use for the floors and such)

I think that for approval, it should either be made in creative mode first so other people can look at it and give suggestions and just make sure that it looks alright, or at the very least there should be some sort of blueprints for it, like so:
Spoiler:

And besides just making sure that it looks good it also leads up to:
3. Building it should not be a strictly one-man job. I mean, I guess that if nobody wants to help you actually build it then it has to be, but by the approval process of 2, other people should be able to help build it, so that we don't have some massive unfinished buildings lying around because the person who wanted to build it lost interest or didn't have the time. I admittedly didn't do a great job of that in respect to building the Hotel, partially because I was worried that someone might build it wrong (based on how Jorster didn't follow my blueprints in the IO), and also just because nobody really knew exactly what I wanted to build because I didn't really do the approval process. But I still did get a bunch of help from a bunch of people, with landscaping (making ground flat/clearing out forest), collecting materials (as well as just some material donations), and some help with laying down the floors, too.

The whole approval thing might seem a little bit cumbersome, but it should only apply to large projects like the Hotel, and it's not like we should be building skyscrapers all over the survival server; that stuff is not easy to do and takes time, and being that large makes it a prominent part of the server, so when we do make those things, we should try to make them look as good as possible, and at the same time try to actually get the building portion done as fast as possible.

I also support a restart, but for different reasons than Quirvy. On Interserver we rarely collaborate, so why force ourselves into tiny spaces where all we can build is a house and then have ten different tiny mines instead of one big collective mine? I think that if we restart, we should spread ourselves out more so we can develop larger and more full constructions on the new server as people tend to not collaborate. However, a certainly prominent counterexample to this is the Hotel, which Quirvy, Thomas, and several others constructed over several days. Also, if we spread out so much, we don't need to go through the approval process as people will only visit you if they want to see what you've built, and as such, people on Far render distance won't be seeing all sorts of ugly and out of place projects near spawn on a spread out server.

I support a restart, and on Hard mode as well. With Hard mode, we will form more of a community on the IS, and rely on each other's help a lot more. As for what Darvince said, I disagree. We should be put together because we should be trying to collaborate and work together. It's something that should be encouraged.

Wow I'm pleasantly surprised by how many people support a restart.

I don't think I'd support a change to hard mode, though. It's an interesting idea, but I feel like if it's actually challenging, to me it will be less appealing to be on the server. I sort of like the casualness of the server as it is, and I'm not sure I'd want to have to rely on other people's help (or otherwise face hindrance). I don't think that lack of community/too much independence is that much of an issue (despite all the "I'm going to build things without telling anyone"). I agree that we could use some more collaboration, but I don't think we should force it upon people by raising the difficulty so that the weaker members have to seek out help or they'll die.

...I also don't want to have to use metal doors everywhere to prevent zombies from breaking in. Those things are really annoying and inconvenient.

I don't think that we'd actually rely on each other, as I am believe that if something is wrong, it is probably me that needs to change, not others, as the others have been fine before me. I also believe that others will not change what they do, so spawn will just end up with the same weirdness as it did on this server.

I also don't support the grid system that Jazz is proposing as necessity is the main reason for motivation (see gregory as an example of this). Also, the grid system would cause a giant headache if spawn is in an extreme hills or savanna M biome because we'd have to dig tunnels everywhere to even have the grid system in place. 1.7 is much hillier than 1.6, at least as far as I've seen, so the grid would have to be adjusted for hills to go around them.

I don't really understand what you mean by "weirdness", but I think that Spawn will not end up with "weirdness" if we make sure to plan and coordinate it.

Actually, the more I think about it, there are certainly a lot of things that could have been done better, so I might understand what you mean by "weirdness". Besides the two construction sites that may or may not ever get finished, some other things I think could have been done better around spawn right now:
•Honestly, I think that the admin shop looks kind of ugly; materials that have textures that make each individual block distinguishable probably shouldn't be used to make buildings
•This isn't really something that can be fixed at this point, nor is it really a big deal anyways, but the path to Teo's house goes right through the beacon area, which is a prime area for fighting mobs since the beacon gives you those special powers. So either the path is unlit, or it is lit and intrudes a little bit on mob-spawning.
•Not actually in spawn city, but I'm not a big fan of the stairway to heaven thing; it probably has no effect on the actual server, but it looks really weird on the dynamic map
•I still dislike that overpass by the netherportal. IMO, it doesn't look very good and it serves absolutely no purpose (if anything, it's more of a hindrance)
•This isn't something that I think is necessarily bad, but I never intended for anyone to actually make a path to Perseverance. It was intended to be a sort of wilderness trail that you had to cautiously follow (and personally that's just how I'd prefer we connect cities or villages that are long distances apart)
•I haven't actually inspected it all around, but from the dynamic map, that building right across from the Hotel looks bland (specifically, the side of it)
•That lily-pad bridge to the farm-island is cool, but I get the impression that it was never actually finished, judging by the uneven fencing.

At least we got rid of pretty much all of the half trees, and also fixed the partially-cut-down-tree problem in the swamp.

I support a map reset for 1.7 with hard mode and preferably no economy. If there is an economy it should not be added until after someone has all achievements because it would make things too easy, even in hard mode if you could buy a stack of wood for $10 or make lots of money by selling clay or something to buy other stuff. The current economy makes it way too easy to make lots of money. I haven't gone mining in months because I can just buy diamonds or gold, etc. I think snipe actually expected people to make their own shops as well when he added the economy but nobody did that. If you guys want the economy back in the new world, you should show that it's helping exchange items with other players and not just being used to gain items that were obtained by unconventional means through the admin shop. I guess I'm more against the admin shop than the economy as a whole but I'm also perfectly fine with drop trading.

I think I understand what Darvince is saying about how we should spread out more. I've been on another server he goes on where the members are assigned certain areas of the map with borders where they can build, mine, etc. The idea might encourage people to build more if they want to fill up their land and make it an entire city and stuff. I don't think we need things to be that organized but we need to just spread out more. I'm sure many of us building or mining underground would always end up in someone else's mines like how I'd always end up in Isa's dangerous mines. A few times as well people would have to move or change their builds so they wouldn't end up being too invasive on someone else's build or property. So we need to spread out more. We can still get to other people's places pretty quickly through the nether. What we need is an organized nether. The current one is a complete mess. My portal is all the way down at bedrock, Kro's and Bmw's are at like y 110 and the spawn one is somewhere in the middle around y 55. All portals should just be at the same elevation and there can be ice tunnels to allow for faster travel time from one place to another.

The overworld spawn would need more infrastructure as well in order to get people to build a bit farther out. I guess there could be farms with melons and wheat and stuff new players will need and there was actually an idea of having the hotel be the new spawn point after we have enough resources to build it but I thought the way it is right now might be too loud and it already has several farms in it that could take away from the number of farms that could be around spawn.

Oh and by the way I thought you can stop zombies from breaking wooden doors by putting either a public or private protection on them? If that's the case then damage on wooden doors by zombies should probably just be disabled or LWC protections should just not protect wooden doors from being broken. You can still get around that I think though by putting your wooden door on sideways so that when it's closed, zombies consider it open and won't try to break it and vice versa.

Huh, I'm also very happy so many people are supporting the reset. I thought lots of people with be against it when the discussion was started. It actually shows how many people dislike the current Survival World too, but atvelonis didn't like this idea.

Thomas, when we were talking about the economy, by saying that I support economy on the new world, I meant we should create more shops on our own. The Admin Shop isn't too nice for me too, because it's not difficult to find some 2 hours of time, go to the Endermen Farm for a moment to collect some 2.000$, then buy all the needed materials and build the thing I've planned to build without any smallest problems. Thomas has also came up with lowering the reward for killing Endermen in The End dimension, I'm into it too. The same with diamonds. It's way too easy to get them with the help of Admin Shop. I don't encourage that Admin Shop, it just slowly stops the infrastructure and economic development of the server.

Don't worry so much about the hard mode, though! It's actually quite fun in my opinion. I've started 2 hardcore worlds lately and it's cool. It's much harder to survive and you need to think more of your decisions. Making good progress in this mode gives also a lot of satisfaction after completing your new destinations in such a world. Well, mainly it relies on making the enemies giving you more damage which isn't too interesting for me too, because it actually lowers the fun of fighting with the enemies IMO (well, it's the hard mode, yup? ;d), but at least the fights aren't always so easy and the game gives you some challenge instead of boring minutes of walking here and there. However things like the possibility of dying because of hunger or the iron doors make the game really entertaining. Because that's how you need to act in real life: no food - no life. If you want to feel safe in your house then get some solid protection.

I'm keen on helping with the infrastructure as well. Since Minecraft is a game of building and creating your own creative projects, why can't we own some nice things in our Minecraft town? I've always loved that bridge over troubled... near the hotel. The shape of it together with the major contruction is just great! It was too tight at times (horse-riding), but it definitely adds a lot of nice architecture to the town, and props for whoever created it. Anything can happen, let's see how the server will be organised when the new version is available. Thus since we have time right now, let's decide how it's going to look with the economy and all the important things we should think on for the new world.

I don't think there should be any form of admin shop. Without the admin shop, the ingame economy will require full participation from the community.

A break from the serious discussion: I remember Isa posting a screenshot of a cow deep in a cave, and I ran into something similar. I went exploring a cave system, and at the beginning I got moderately deep in the cave, and there was a sheep caught in a water current, which I thought was odd, but not that much because it wasn't that deep. Then I eventually ran into an abandoned mineshaft which was very deep, and upon finding it I also found a chicken who was laying eggs. Later while I was exploring the mineshaft, I started hearing a cow, and I eventually realized, "Wait, why am I hearing a cow at y=15?"

I eventually found him:

Spoiler:

Then like 30 minutes to an hour later after doing lots of exploring in the mineshaft, I started hearing a pig, and eventually I found him, too. I quickly realized that it was in the exact same spot where I found the cow:

Spoiler:

A little bit later I finally moved on from the mineshaft and am working on getting out, and I run across a massive cavern, and also in the cavern was a chicken, perhaps the one from earlier (although this area was completely unexplored, so I'm not sure):

Spoiler:

The pig from before somehow managed to eventually find its way down to the same cavern, and I took made sure to get a picture of them together (actually I think that while I was trying to get a better picture of the chicken, the pig suddenly walked into the screen, but I don't have that)

Spoiler:

I don't know what happened to the cow or the sheep, though. (or actually the pig and the chicken for that matter; that cavern was dangerous and I didn't make it out alive)
