I know one person that's homeschooled. He came to my school, and so far, Yaya's described him pretty accurately. He's a cool guy, but he just... doesn't really understand social interaction.

from my experience (i repeat, my), it's the exact opposite, where people who go to school are introverts and tend to be less open-minded (although you guys are cool), and in general are not too creative. whereas most kids i know--generally extroverts--who've been taken out of school have decided to do so primarily due to them not doing things the proper way and trying to find a different way around a given problem.
the reason i've been taken out of school though is because i think outside the box--though i'm not sure if i'm an introvert nor extrovert to be honest haha--and my teacher was not, which was a problem in grade 3 when i was like 8. so that didn't work out for me, so, of course, my mom took me out of school and homeschooled me.

what's a schoolhoming?

A school homing is when your school follows you around

homeschooled people are smarter.
Let's get this out of the way right now: being homeschooled won't automatically make you smarter than someone who isn't. Just because you're homeschooled doesn't mean that you're will end up being any smarter than those of us who weren't. This is like saying "asian people are smarter than people of other races". I think it's funny that Sniper called flashmarsh out for making an over-generalization, but didn't acknowledge this one.

This was baseless and had nothing to do with the conversation at hand.

'yimmy7' said:
the things that homeschoolers don't learn are the things they shouldn't learn. you don't get as many bad examples when you're homeschooled either
This is preposterous.

One thing I'll say is that I think it's better to gain your political views from public schools than homeschooling. In public schools they can't (or rather, should not be) teaching you to follow one party, whereas if you're homeschooled I imagine that you're more likely to be raised to follow the political beliefs of your parents. I general, I think it's bad to learn about political issues through your parents, as they are more likely to teach you their beliefs rather than give each side fair representation. It is better to form an opinion on something after hearing out both sides rather than just learning it from one side. This is also why I like sniper's conservative presence on the interguild; he gives the other side representation. I hold mostly liberal views, but even I think it's silly how dismissive Isa can be of the other side. I think it's very important to keep an open mind.

As for the social aspect of homeschooling, I think I've only met 2 people IRL who were homeschooled. One was outgoing, but at the same time I would say that he was socially awkward. The other one I didn't get to know very well, but he seemed like an alright guy.

However, some public schools can be pretty bad, and in that case it might be a better option for the child to be homeschooled, and you can be homeschooled but still be taught controversial issues fairly, and meet children from different backgrounds, ect.

ok, homeschoolers don't get scarred for life because of a bully, most towns have homeschooling groups. plus, there are plenty of kids at church.

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Are_homeschooled_kids_considered_smarter_than_public_school_kids homeschoolers learn to manage time, but read this.

it seems like flashmarsh thinks homeschooling thinks it's like being locked in your house, all day every day. no. you can go to your friends house basically whenever you want if you finish school fast enough. homeschooling: you're free to do whatever you want as long as your school is done by the end of the day. public schools: you're trapped in a classroom half the day and get in trouble for trying to talk with your friends. and then when you get home you have to do homework. no free time

Hey, I haven't engaged in political conversation here for a long time.

With regards to the current discussion it feels to me like Yimmy is sure that homeschooling is good because he's homeschooled, and reasons come afterwards. That'll be my final post about this matter - homeschooling is incredibly rare in Sweden.

I think that targettng schools with homing rockets is bad. it's using children as human shield and it's bad and you should feel bad.

you have a very skewed sense of public school... being bullied is unfortunately the real world. not everything is going to be perfect. you need to learn from this and figure out how to deal with people you don't like.

not saying "wow life sucks after school"... more like "learn how to deal with idiots so life DOESN'T suck after school".

idk. just my first thoughts.

i actually laughed at that haha. but homeschool can't really be generalized. not every person who's homeschooled receives a better education.

Unlike most of you, I attend [to] a private school. Here, the content I'm learning is bigger than in normal, public school, so it wasn't easy to get used to the very strict evaluating and more time spent on education. However, I'm happy with this choice because after you get used, the next place you're going to learn in won't make as many problems as it would because students are used to strict evaluation and lots of hours spent with textbooks. Yeah, 70% of the answers on a test give you a 3 here (I don't know how it's in english countries but I guess it's "D" at you). This makes the school contain mostly people which are going to do something serious with their life in the future. These students wouldn't have easy times learning in a normal, public school because of all the mess that's going to happen during the lessons in such a school, and because of the said bullying as well. The same with teachers - some of them are so specific that they wouldn't be able to work in a normal school because they wouldn't have easy times trying to teach such youth. I don't say private schools are competely different than public schools. Not at all. Everything applies just like in normal schools but doing bad things and so on is much more rare than it happens in public schools. Still, lots of students smoke and drink and lots of them aren't always kind and polite for everyone, but school without these things wouldn't be a school because as Soccer said, these things are mostly preparing you for the real life you're going to experience in the near future.

As you probably noticed, I'm always crazy happy and such all the time and now I suppose you don't think I'm so immature and so on anymore but I'm just happy and I love to laugh all the time. Before tests and things I try to find the best exit out of the problems and I usually have a positive look on things. There's only one life and I don't care what some people think about me or about other people as well as getting a bad mark in school because this one mark or those some people probably won't have any major importance for me in the future and everyone else don't [doesn't] care about it even more. Anyways, I just love life at some moments because it makes me laugh so much and I love to be in a great mood all the time because it removes the stress for me almost in 100% and helps in lots of situations then; laughing is superb and some things are just so fun I can't stop laughing, it's healthy and I just love the way I'm able to live.

I didn't write it because I wasn't going to spoil so much things about my private life and such, but the school I attend [to] is a catholic school. We pray on one of the breaks everyday and we use to go to the church a lot. The Poland is *catholic* itself, so yeah. ;d

We have a private school that's Catholic (jory, you know what i'm talking about). not saying all are, but this school is an absolute joke. supposed to be good and christian and holy and stuff, but it's the exact opposite. filled with preppy kids that smoke and drink. they have a "praying break" but i'm sure only like one or two kids use that time, probably moved to this area unknowing of their reputation. private schools are different here...
