Bahaha, my middle school seriously did a horrific job of preparing for high school. As I noobly freshman, I would say to myself, "what do you mean I have homework in multiple subjects every night?". Me and my peers would now get a hernia from laughing at someone who'd say that.

I'll agree that it's easier to get along and connect with teachers in HS due to the smaller maturity gap, but the problem in my school is about 1/3 of the teachers there simply get a teaching position so they can coach a HS sport. My chemistry teachers is there to run the Ski program, my speech teacher is there to run the baseball team, and my government teacher is there to run the football program. Their student's educations often get pushed to the side so they can focus on their sports.

My speech class is practically a joke in which the teacher either a.) gives you a completely random list of topics and tells you to do a powerpoint on one b.) tells you to do a powerpoint on a random topic of completely your choice. We work on them for 2 days and then repeat. He usually leaves the class 5-10 minutes in and doesn't return till about 3 before the bell. These are far from high quality powerpoints, if you do a five slide show of information straight off of wikipedia oozing with spelling errors, and present it while looking at the ground you will get full credit. This time around I'm humoring myself by doing a minesweeper powerpoint. And they say Speech is supposed to prepare you for college... maybe more classes will next year.

I got sick of both the people and the teachers in MS. Since it's smaller than HS, you pretty much run into the same good/bad people every year, and they get to you after a while. I almost go back to square one of friends/a posse every year of HS because it's so massive. HS most definitely > MS.

Speaking about middle schools, I never went to one. Where I live, it skips directly from elementary to high school. (1-7 is elementary, 8-12 is high)

In the UK, there is no such thing as 'middle schools' or 'high schools'. Althought year 7 and 8 are referred to as Lower School, years 9 to 11 are called Middle school, and Year 12 and 13 is called upper school, they are all at exactly the same school.

If you ever need help on research, just ask me. I can help you with strategy as well.

(Elementary: Class 1-9, changed school between 5 and 6 - first school was awesome, second was decent. High school was decent as well, now I'm in university and it's all good so far.)

The reason I haven't been on lately is because I've been trying to take a break from the internet and other things, and trying to get some things figured out and sorted.  I just need some time of, well, self-timeout.

Don't mean to be a jerk, but shouldn't this conversation be moved to random chat?
Also I might be gone for a few days next week because of job training.

If you look back thru the thread, lots of mini-conversations start up in here, usually because of the reason the person gives for not being on. Thankfully, they don't usually last long because it's on a single topic, unlike RC where the topic is constantly changing or there are multiple topics at once. (nobody replied to Bmwsu for 3 days here, I figured it was over). Where are you working?

yes, if a topic is of certain importance and mini convos start inside it that interrupt its meaning, we might do something, but in this case not. it's like the bug reports.

Technically, I havn't been hired yet, but assuming I get the job(good chance, since they want to train me), I'll be working as an Assistant Game Developer for the University of Arizona Optical Research Center. They've been contracted to make a videogame that can be used as training for mine and geology workers who don't speak English as their primary language. The game is supposed to help them associate English words related to their occupation and safety to various situations and objects. The game has an emphasis on running on nontraditional platforms like virtual reality, augmented reality, touch pad systems, etc as well as the more traditional ones.

I've been incredibly busy for the last few weeks, and last weekend I got really sick, which made me even more busy.

But this week, I went to the Game Developers Conference! It was awesome, and I definitely want to go again next year.

snipereborn was also there.

Yes, we know each other IRL. GDC was freaking awesome. That was honestly the best week of my life. I'm going to write a blog about it sometime.
