Also, a nice 'You Failed' theme would be nice. In a minor key. Mocking at you. | | Livio |

but when would such a theme play? There are unlimited lives, so it's not like it'll come up when you lose all your lives. and to come up on every death would be annoying. | | canadianstickdeath |

I don't know how to say this, but nobody except Livio should request anything from grimace. If there's something that you want, discuss it with the rest of us first, and if we decide that it's needed, then we'll ask Livio to ask grimace for us. | | Dekudude |

I think other people should be allowed to post sound effect ideas, but Livio should have the final say. Also, let's make another thread... for sound effects.

I agree. That's pretty much what I was saying. It was just, I didn't want grimace to think that "Also, a nice 'You Failed' theme would be nice. In a minor key. Mocking at you." or "we have spikes in our game, stalactite and stalagmites; so when these are destroyed somehow, I think a sound similar to breaking glass should be fit" means we actually want him to put serious effort into those type of things.
I agree with the separate thread, but also, Livio needs to be the one to make it. It needs a list of sounds in the header that, for sure, we will be using in the game's campaign. We'll continue to discuss there. | | the_grimace |

I agree, which in that case, here is a list of what I'm going to be working on thus far so it can be added to the thread:
boulder_land
boulder_land_water
boulder_slide
boulder_hit_boulder
crate_hit_crate(or boulder)
crate_hit_wall(or boulder)
IDcrate_land
IDcrate_land_water
IDcrate_slide
player_bump_crate
player_jump
player_land
player_land_water
Splash (crate or player moving in water)
Spike_break
SteelCrate_break
SteelCrate_land
SteelCrate_land_water
SteelCrate_slide
WoodCrate_break
WoodCrate_land
WoodCrate_land_water
WoodCrate_slide
Its ok for people to suggest SFX for me. You guys probably know the game better then me. I just started looking over it and the concept.

BTW: you can use .wav for the sound effects. It's just the music that should be MP3.

Still, we need a 'player_death'. Can't have a videogame without any death music, don't you think? I don't know what Livio thinks, so... | | jazz |

This isn't the most impressive remix ever, Jazz. I wasn't able to edit the MIDI file, 'cause of some weirdness in it, so I had to work with what you made, and couldn't make changes, so some parts feel a little off in this mix. It's okay though, I think. It's higher quality now, and a little more fitting, I think. I couldn't seem to fix the stereo pans, so most of the song is going to come out of your left speaker. Sorry about that.
Maybe I'll fool around with the MID file and see if I can fix it. | | Livio |

I downloaded Anvil Studios yesterday, and I'm learning to use it. I'll post my results when I can. | | FlashMarsh |

What kind of music do you guys need? Is there distinct themed levels, or is it more arcade play based? I can work on some music in my spare time, and like I said, if anyone has a finished track that they want me to mix for them, send me the midi or audio files. (must be a multi-tracked audio project if sending audio files)
let me know | | Livio |

@guyguy, that sounds pretty choppy in that sometimes's there's sound and sometimes it stops and then starts again.
I like to think that since this game is being built to be a great level-making game, we could theoretically add any kind of music to the game. But as for the main campaign levels, you're basically travelling all over this deserted planet with ruins from past civilization and war everywhere. Maybe that idea could lead to some songs. | | jazz |

Hey, I think we should make list of what styles of music we want. I mean, we might take a leaf from Super Mario Galaxy's book and compose the whole score with an orchestra (recommended if you want Aeon to be done in 8 years). I guess 8-bit would be nice, for nostalgia's sake. | | Livio |

if you find and hire an entire orchestra to make music for us, then maybe.... | | jazz |

Lol, then can somebody shell out a few thousand dollars? It looks like the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra can do it. | | the_grimace |

hmm. I have an idea I might work on. I'm going to be moving next week, so probably after this thursday, i'm going to be gone for almost two weeks, so if I get the sound design updated, I'll try to work on a song. It won't be completely 8 bit, but I'm definitely thinking of using a bunch of synths. | | jazz |

Gah, that '8-bit' thing is just an idea! Let's make a list of the styles and then vote for the best one. | | Dekudude |

Really, I don't think we need a particular style. Most games have multiple. Limiting ourselves to one style is limiting the game's flexibility, in my opinion.

Oops, forgot about the 's'. Anyways, if that's your game, then I'll be happy to find an orchestra. I've composed a bit of orchestral music, maybe we could hire an orchestra to play it and record it. | | Dekudude |

Haha, definitely not. Wayyyy too expensive, and I doubt any of us have the experience necessary to make GOOD orchestral pieces for REAL orchestras. Also, it's a sci-fi game, so we need sci-fi music, in my opinion.

I mean, techno music fits well. If someone can write an orchestral piece that fits, that's great. A rock piece? Great. I just mean sci-fi is the general mood of things. I was basically saying that even if we WERE to limit ourselves to one style--which we shouldn't--orchestral probably shouldn't be it.
That's all :]
Also, in other news, I plan on remixing the song I wrote for our Zelda competition in an Aeon style as soon as that competition is judged, so be excited!

cool
but all this orchestra talk has tempted me several times to say something like: "let's save it for the sequel, Super Aeon Galaxy", but I decided to spare you guys from that... | | |
