I guess we compile a soundtrack if we ever get around to doing that.

Alright guys, I was on a roll this morning. I remixed the song I wrote for collaborative competition, and made it great for Aeon. Here it is:

Alien - http://www.mediafire.com/?u72yyu0zhfn772i

ALSO: I fixed up two of the other songs. Run!, I simply changed the volume. Intruder, I fixed up a couple issues, and resampled it.

Run! - http://www.mediafire.com/?wfwiy6byvdp9hlq
Intruder - http://www.mediafire.com/?x5cwjqah8fgldfq

That's a good idea. I'll make a tutorial one of these days in a big blog post.

Since I'm pretty settled in now, I've been working on a song you might be able to use in Aeon.  It's more upbeat and catchy, which might go against your theme, but looking at Hannah and the pirate caves, it should work well, unless you want a darker grittier style.  I should have it done by tomorrow or possibly tonight if I feel ambitious.

this looks great, but I can't hear any of it b/c I forgot to bring my headphones (I went home for the Labor Day weekend, and left that stuff in my dorm). I'll just mark this stuff as "Read Later".

I guess we could have a choice of music for each level, kinda like Dr. Mario but different???

I don't think that would be a great idea. It could work, but I think only the level editor should allow music choices. It just makes more sense-- some designers want their level to have a particular feel. Music does a lot to a game: crazy choices could screw that up.

I listened to these songs now. Guyguy, I really did not like that first one. The second one was better, but I dunno, I still didn't enjoy it much.

Livio.  is it possible for you to program the songs into the game so that it plays an intro, then loops a song?  I guess essentially it might be possible with two files (the intro and the song that will loop) but is it possible to do with just ONE file?

I keep writing songs that have an intro, but I want them to loop at a point after the intro.

Let me know as it will decide what I do with this song I'm working on for you.

with two files, yes it's possible. But with one file? Maybe. There might be some function in Flash that let me split a song into two, but that would assume I know where to split it for each. I haven't looked much into sound-editing with ActionScript yet, though.

Maybe just save the song with the intro and then have it loop back to whatever point once and then the file will end. That way we could listen to the song the way it's meant to be. But for the game-ready files, you could upload try the two-files approach.

Here's the VERY ROUGH MIX of the song.  Definitely not anywhere near final, but does have all the parts I will probably use.  Also, ignore the little blurb in the beginning.  It does that rarely from converting.  I just rushed this out fast so you could hear it.

Hey The_Grimace, that's really good. It's soooo catchy. I talked to you about this on AIM. Just fix that stuff, and it'll fit into Aeon wonderfully.

i took your considerations into account.  Now the song is nearly doubled in length. Still trying to figure out how to do a seamless loop.  I'll probably just end up doing two files.  One an intro and another the looping part.

If you just kinda faded out into that first part, I think it'd be fine.

Update 2 on the song.  Pretty much done writing.  Now just to mix and master and it will be ready.  In the meantime, give this rough draft a listen!  Make any suggestions you want.  I'm a little unsure about the guitar taking the melody in the first part around 15 secs or so.

wrote a menu song for Aeon this afternoon.  Here is the pre mix rough draft.  Pretty certain this is the final song, I just need to mix and master it.  I'm a little unsure of the "complexity" of the second melody.  (about :53)  I feel it should be more simple.  But Idk, its also a unique melody.  Let me know your thoughts on that part.  The sooner the better. This one wont take me long to mix.

These are both really good! I really like Titanium Shard, too. However, I have one complaint about it: it's more dreary than exciting, which, if used on the menu, would make the entire game sound more dreary than exciting. Though the song is great, I don't think that's good, especially for a fun, cute little game like Aeon... but that's just my take on it. The song would do awesome in a slow-paced level, but I don't know about the menu.

Also, just to clarify, this IS great menu music. I just don't see it working for Aeon... especially judging by how all of the other songs have been exciting and fun, this seems a bit out of place for such an important part of the game. Good job, though! I like the melody in that one part, too, with the harmonies and stuff. I don't have any complaints regarding the song itself.
