--we're gonna create a system where members can add games to the site any time they want
--the games have to get approved by mods, but the idea is to approve anything that could work, no matter how much you hate the game.
--there's a distinction between member-added games and 'official' games too. If a game becomes popular enough, we could mark it as "Chosen" and it'll become a major game of the site, like HATPC-- it'll have its own board, section of pages, comp category, etc; while every other game shares all of those as if they were one big game.

Jell's idea was to categorize the smaller games further so that it won't get so crowded.

I never supported this idea. Actually, I don't support it, but at the time I didn't care enough to make my opinions known. I actually still don't care, I'm just pulling out another shingle.

I'd rather have a board where you can suggest games, and if we like it, we'll put it in. I'd rather you didn't waste your time making an add game page.

I agree with the game of the week idea. It will help gain popularity to lesser known games.

Although I suggest we expand it. A game of the month with contests, new guides and videos would probably be much better.

I dunno, though.  A game of the month with extended comps and such  might be a bad idea if the game isn't popular and people don't like it to much.  You might put to much work into getting a comp started for a GOTM, then the game just stays unpopular.  I think their should just be a section where a hand chosen game picked by a mod should pt it up and the description.

Wow!  That is the most I think I have ever type in a single post.  This is good candy, too...

let me just post these quotes for reference....
Quote:
It'll work like this: a game can either be a chosen game (very popular, with more sections of the site reserved to it), or a regular game. The regulars will be grouped into categories, and the categories are treated as if they were chosen games. and that really balances things out, especially if a game isn't popular enough.
Quote:
and the way the boards will be managed (at least this is the current plan) is: chosen games will get 3 forums (levels, vids, and comps), and the categories will get only one forum (for all of the levels, vids, and comps for ALL games). This sounds ridiculous, but it's to keep certain boards from dying out. I'm assuming that a majority of games will not have sustainable popularity, so the fact.....
Quote:
...so the fact that they are in one big board will help the board from dying out and becoming dead. and if a game does sustain popularity, it'll probably become a chosen game.
Quote:
I'm not sure how we'll do the categories. We'll mostly use genres like puzzle, platformer, racing, etc. But we may also make new non-genre categories either to keep others from being overloaded, or because it's more convenient
Quote:
multiple categories would be confusing. Because categories will tell the site where to put the topics for level galleries and videos. Maybe a separate field of information called genres? Except it'll be more for classifying the game as somehing instead of organizing its location on the site. Or better yet, just describe it in the description and when people do a search for "platformer" they'll....

so how would we get the game of the week thing to work? sounds like a great idea, but what would we do with it? hold a 1-week comp or something?

I think a great idea would be to hold a tournament where each week is a new round and each round features a different lesser-known game. but that's a whole different idea....

A competition and possibly videos and guides.
They should also get their own announcement.

Maybe a link to the game and the game board.  The description of the game to.

Also, this is a whole new thing, but:

What about guides.  Will their still be guides for the lesser games?  Will the guides for a game all be grouped together like the game are together?  I just wanna know what you have planned for that.

you mean we'll release videos and guides throughout the week? we may have to plan these ahead, if we do that.

you know, I really should make the competition system compatible with the video archive; then we could have video comps....

It would be a good idea to plan ahead anyway.
And yes to the video/competition mixture.

This is my idea on how to manage guides:

There will be an article system that will allow staff members to publish guides written by either themselves or other members. Then those articles will be attached to individual games. That way anyone can contribute to guides, and you guys can still add them to the site even if I'm not here too often.

and if I had to guess when I'll next be able to add the video-comp thing, it'll probably be around summer.. actually around April/June b/c that's when my summer starts

Or a person could submit a guide for a game, the it would have to be approved.

And since more than one game will share a forum, how will you list the guides?

I am out of candy...

whoa you just gave me an interesting idea. Should articles have forum replies to them? I can't believe I never thought of that... 0_o It would be awesome to have commenting on articles. and it doesn't matter if they get lost in the other posts because you'll most likely be looking for the article in other pages other than the forum
