This is a new idea I have thought of- basically, people post about a town they have started or a large project, and they can try to get people to join and help out. They can describe their town, give coordinates, then people who want to help out with the person's town can say so by creating a post, with a possible IG time they will be on.

For example,

"I'm making a new town at coordinates x= -3205, y= 65, z= -201. It's in a forest, and should have lots of stores and stuff. There shouldn't be any buildings made from iron or any other kind of modern-looking style. Please help out, because I need ideas, buildings and houses. I'm still thinking of a name for the town, as well."

Then a reply could be:

"Ok, I can probably help out later today, at about 4:00 PM Interguild Time."

A system like this will increase server activity and building, and will make the server more organized. The above town that I used as an example IS a real town I'm making also, so I could use some help on that.

IMO, San Notch wasn't a disaster. It was unstructured, but it looked neat most of the time, with no irregularities and a decent theme.

I've been wondering if I should release my plans to the public, and since Livio is usually to busy to come online, let alone construct an entire minecraft city, I figure this place is about as appropriate a place as I can find.

In case you didn't know, Livio was supposed to create a City of Lakes that I designed, honoring our Interguild Olympics team, who fought valiantly despite falling short. OK, so it was mostly 3 members who fought valiently, but still, 5 lakes -> 5 members -> 5 towers + 1 monument

Anyways, all this planning started during the IO, but after I designed the monument and livio built it. So this was before the first server was abandoned. It was planned to be built around the original monument. When we switched over to the new server, the plan was to find a new area, rebuild the monument, and then build the other towers. Since I think I've heard that we might switch back to the old map, or maybe have both the current map and old one on the same server or something, it might be best to wait until that gets decided to build anything if you want to, because it would be silly to build half of it on the new server, and then the old one gets brought back.

Also to my knowledge, Livio has done nothing other than find a spot to build it.

With that said, here's the plans for City of Lakes:
[where spoiler would go if double spoilers worked properly]
Before I get to the actual planned out stuff with screenshots and stuff, some background on  the design:
The original layout for the city was for the towers to be spread out far apart, and perhaps have smaller buildings resembling the main building's styles. That's not going to happen, so I'm thinking it might be better to put them close together, but still give the monument some separation, so that it sticks out.

Also, each of the buildings is intended to be built above water. The monument has an underwater entrance, the others, are supposed to have isolated piers(not connected to anything) that allow you to reach there entrances.

Unlike how I assume you guys made your buildings, this one is done with much forethought and planning, hence the diagrams you'll see below, and even a few mini-models of some of the buildings. Like how me and Livio did the Monument, the building of it would probably involve communication between me, the designer, and you guys, the builders, onto whether or not things need to be changed a little because they look too bland, so that the building doesn't look to bland or unnatural.

With all of that secondary stuff said, here's lots of stuff on it, which you'd have to all read since I believe I redesigned the Ontario tower completely, and the erie a little bit.

From my inbox, here's some PMs I sent to Livio regarding it:

Alright, here you go, in order that I designed them:

Criticisms and propositions for the building sites?

'Quirvy' said:
Two things.

First of all, a minor change (major actually but there's no difference from the outside) to the Erie Tower.

Unless you have a problem with it, I was thinking that the Erie Tower should have an open area in the middle of it, following the structure's shape.

Spoiler:

The top floor of the open space won't exist because it will actually just be a glass block and then the next floor. I don't know how you'll want to do the bottom of this area, maybe make a glass floor there and have it go down even further with the base of the tower, or make it into some lounge or something since you'll have more space than the other floors of the building.

Also I'm thinking that the Ontario Tower could probably undergo some redesigning, as in maybe just a totally different tower, because I don't think that bricks look good from far away (not sure if it's different in what you're using) and also just because it's a really bland and boring design other than the very top which still isn't that interesting compared to Huron's roof, Michigan's window wall design, Erie's structure, and Superior in general. Any good ideas for tower designs, or should I just try to come up with something on my own like I did with the current 5 towers (+ the monument)

Also how's scouting for a good Great Lakes Location going?

'Quirvy' said:
1. If I'm thinking you mean what I think you mean by slabs, I'd say no because it distinguishes each individual slab, which is out of place in this design. I think that it can survive with it's lone color because of it's pyramidic design and windows (if it wasn't for the windows, it would be bad, though)

2. We already kind of did slanted roof with the Huron Tower, if you recall. And when doing designs for the fifth tower we have to remember that the building has to be about as tall as the other 4 (and the monument, of course)

3. Also it's alright to say that you haven't done any scouting for the City of Lakes new location.

4. Did you intentionally look for canadian buildings because it's for Lake Ontario which is in Canada? If so, I suggest instead of looking at those for inspiration, you look at the CN Tower:

Here's what I come up with, it's not totally in line with the others, but Bryan didn't do anything so it's not like he deserves an building filled with stuff in it.

aw man I forgot to make it bigger looking:

Spoiler:
'Quirvy' said:
The Ontario tower will be far away and in the middle of water. One thing I also neglected to mention is that there can be rooms inside of the base, because the base of it is actually pretty large.

'Quirvy' said:
So, I don't know if you've figured out where you're going to build the city of lakes, so I'll throw out two suggestion areas for you to work with, to motivate you to get started

Spoiler:
Livio chose the Orange region over the yellow one.
[where spoiler would end if double spoilers worked right]

So there you have it, an plans for an entire city composed of 5 buildings and 1 monument. Like it, don't like it, whatever. If you want to go ahead and build it, let me know so that I can further help in the planning process. We might have all the buildings down, but we don't actually have planned out where they'd all go, and if we planned all of the buildings, surely the actual locations of them should be planned as well, so that we don't get one big building blocking out the monument or something like that.

I really hope that one month we have enough extra money left over from the ads on this site, that we can buy you the full version of Minecraft.

I dunno if you did start with this, considering that I don't think it's been decided yet whether or not they're bringing back the old map, but you are starting it, just remember to keep some distance between the lake towers, and the monument. Beyond that, making the piers not connected and following the building plans exactly, I'll pretty much leave it up to you guys on how to organize where the towers go in relation to eachother. The two that probably need the most consideration would be the Michigan Tower, because it has a little thing it the back of it that doesn't go up(which I didn't actually give you specific plans for, just dimensions and intention), and then also the Ontario tower, because it's significantly different from the other towers.
