Because I am a skilled debater who can see the many facets of every issue, I shall be posting a rebuttal for every option in the poll, whether or not it is in favor of my viewing the film.

If you look closely at the text, then you will realize that this topic is indeed NOT useless and that it has a clearly stated purpose, which is to debate whether or not I should watch Alien.

Yeah, it's useless, but these topics can be somewhat amusing at times. It adds a bit of activity to the site as well.

As I promised in my first post I shall provide a rebuttal for each of the arguments in the poll. I will start from the last option and move up to the first one.

What, you mean you haven't watched it already? You amateur.
You probably watched The Princess Bride when you were 4 and have been quoting it ever since. Guess what? I don't care.

Yes, you should watch it because it has the guy who played Winston Smith in it.
Which is what I was planning to do in the first place. I'm disappointed that you didn't provide any new arguments for me to think about. That's not the way to stimulate an intellectual mind.

Yes, you should watch it because it's better than 1984.
It is impossible to prove objectively that one film is better than another, even if the supposedly better film has 12 Oscars to its name. That is a matter of opinion. However, there is another factor that I would like to speak about, a factor that cannot be argued: the factor of relevance. Indeed, it is a fact that, in the life of the average person, the NSA is far more relevant than NASA. From this we can conclude that 1984 is far more relevant to our society today than Alien, even if Alien has 12 Oscars.

No, you should watch it because it is a classic film that has an important place in film history.
Does my reason for watching the film matter if it's always going to end in the same result? Either way I will have watched the film. You may think that I'm going to skip over all the scenes that don't feature the guy who played Winston Smith, but I'm not.

No, you should watch it because it has Sigourney Weaver in it.
Did Sigourney Weaver play Winston Smith in the 1984 film adaptation of the George Orwell novel 1984? Didn't think so.

No, because John Hurt is a stupid actor.
Elaborate please.

No, because it's too scary and you'll have trouble sleeping for days.
What kind of person do you think I am? I'm not afraid of anything, not even rats. You may not be able to see the distinction between fiction and reality, but I am.

In seriousness, those of you who have watched Alien, what was your opinion of it?

Alien 1 was pretty decent, solid 7/10. Alien 2 I was asleep during the majority, cannot give opinion. Alien 3 was legitimately one of the worst films I have ever seen.

Can you feel your heart burning?
Can you feel the struggle within?
