Since we're probably not going to make another world on the server strictly for players who want to play minecraft without any modifications, how about we just mark a line in the sand and declare an entire region for people who want to build and mine things the old fashioned way? No spawning, or warping, or worldedit. We still won't have mobs, and I'm not sure how problematic that will be in terms of crafting items, but perhaps every now and then we can spawn a bunch of such items and place them somewhere and every time you need some, you have to go get it? But there's no getting past the blocked items list, but I'm not sure how big a problem that might be.

To simulate the survival aspect of single player minecraft, we could make it a rule that if you see another player and it's nighttime, then you must try to kill them on sight. Which means everyone in this zone must have pvp on. Of course, griefing is still not allowed, even at night. And I suppose this rule can be broken if two players are building something together and night happens to fall. The rarity of encountering another player can be balanced against the level of threat that another player poses, not to mention the fact that the player is free to steal all your items when you drop them, unlike monsters. We may also want a rule that prohibits fighting during the day, unless all participants agree beforehand.

I'm not sure if it's necessary to put some kind of wall or moat (or both) between this side of the server and the other, but we could put entrances and stuff that say "Now Entering Real MC Zone, please drop off all items here." Any "cheating" on this part of the server will have to be strictly dealt with or else people might go on annoying killing sprees.

How about going far away from spawn (with either x or z in the 1500 range) and building a huge wall (of course, needs to be pretty)?

It should be a walled-in area with a rail going from sunrise central to just outside the area.

yeah, you guys should make a wall of china or something. Each side gets to build half of the wall, they build the side that's on their half. And then the world edit guys are finished before the real guys realize what's going on.

Or you could just build it or make some sort of line or just make a normal wall.

Funny that you are talking about a wall of china. My next project - on another server though - is a wall of china built completely by hand, therefore requiring a huge strip mine to get the stone from. Though I wanted to use the super pickaxe, since normally destroying that many blocks takes hours and is just a waste of time and is no fun.

If we go this path, we could have 3 zones. The original zone, which are all the rules as they are now. The vanilla zone, which has no cheat commands allowed. And the NoWorldEdit zone, which is exactly like the original zone, except there is no WorldEdit allowed at all.

I think that this zone that has PvP and no warping items should be a great distance from any of the maor cities and projects that are currently on the server. My reasons for thinking this are
1. Any nice views or areas where the buildings look nice in the sunset would be ruined by a great big ugly wall.
2. Buliding space where any projects or cities could be enlarged would be taken up by a great big ugly wall.
3. We are trying to create the sort of illusion of a different world so the new world should not really be visible from the current one.
4. We may have a "Berlin Wall" scenario where people want a quick look at the other side and accidently bring some warped items in, subsequently breaking rules.
5. If the worlds are far apart seperated by great expanses of land then such a rule break as above would be avoided as theremis time to think about what you take in and so on.
6. I think that people would rather build in peace on the current server without the threat of building to close to the other one.
Thanks for having a read and I hope you understand where I'm coming from.

Yeah maybe we shouldn't have a giant wall. Maybe just a 1 or 2-tile-high wall just for reference. But maybe we could make a fancy gate every now and then.

So if we had a worldedit zone and an original zone, what part of the current server would be in each?

I think we should just make the Vanilla Zone first and see how that goes before making other zones.

I like the idea of having a vanilla zone, but I kinda want it in survival. Is it possible to make a new server strictly for vanilla and survival?

Or, we could have it with just a few plugins (Cenotaph, SetHome (or whatever it's called), and a few others to keep it small).

i'm pretty sure there's a plugin that allows you to add chunks into worlds. Maybe in 1.2 you could add a jungle biome!

Truetubepoops, a friend of mine, owns a survival server. I'm a co-owner of the server. I'm thinking that he might let you guys play on it when he gets back from vacation. Rosabellis and Kooler already know about the server and have ranks.

I mean, I want a vanilla server. No cheats. No hacks. No mods. No plugins, except for BigBrother/logblock/other anti-grief plugins.

Which is why I proposed a different server all together.
If you want, here is the page with prices and what you get.

For .5GB, it's 7 dollars, and for 1GB, it's 15 dollars.  Technically we'd save a buck, but it would be slightly more convenient if going between "servers" involved a simple warp, yet less convenient when it comes to plugins and management.  Having two seperate cPanels would help keep mixups from happening.

I don't know.  I'm just kind of rambling here.  (I'm at school, and I'm supposed to be doing math.)  Either way, we need to make sure we can double our payment if we want a survival server in the first place.

Hey guys, I'd be willing to put up $20 a month for a good server.
