Question-does the quality of the portrait matter? Like, does it have to look like what it's supposed to be... I don't remember the word for it...

It shouldn't be the deciding factor in the cave, but I mean obviously if it's a cheap entry (ei: Can't think of any examples) or a really poorly done job then that will be a little bit of a factor, but the quality of the portrait shouldn't be what you're looking. It wasn't the actual meepit that made Isa declare the Metal Meepit to be my best cave to date, it was the cave inside it that made it my best cave (according to him at least, I still like steel insanity a little better)

I'd say this was my favourite competition. It was the one I had the most fun playing through, and I think it had the highest overall quality of levels (although that might just be my preference for HatPC talking). Quirvy's cave was the clear winner for me; it was the most enjoyable level and had the coolest portrait. I wasn't a fan of Ace of Clubs at first (hard to believe I was playing the easier version), but once I got the tricky first bit down, I started having fun figuring it out.

Great Lakes Olympics and Tentacle were very close for third place, so it came down to the portrait. OKAPIS FTW had a great portrait, but it just wasn't very fun.
