That's really strange. I know the game is referencing a plugin in case you want gamepads to work, and that plugin uses java, but it shouldn't have any trouble if you don't have the plugin installed.

I have no idea what's wrong with your computer.

About FPS:

20 on loading screen
11-15 while playing. At the start it's around 14-15, and it seems to get lower as the game goes on. Lowest I reached was like 7 or 8 FPS. Overall, game feels too slow, probably as a result of low FPS

To further illustrate the game feeling too slow, I played the 3 minute long training game and timed it, and it lasted 6 minutes and 49 seconds long...

(also, trying to score for blue only, I won 61-5)

45 - 75 on the menu screen
20 in game

I also found a... tactic? that seems brokenish. If you attract a block to you on the ground and then jump while holding attract, the block will end up under you, so you can just jump off of it in the air, hold attract, and repeat to jump all the way up the level.

EDIT:
Another bug, in the options menu where you adjust the sound levels, moving the slider above 100% doesn't actually change the sound level for the music or sound.

I generally get about 12 fps with about a third the frame time being taken up by the flixels. It could be because there are no proper drivers for my video card for Ubuntu. This is on both Firefox and Chrome.

Wow that's really slow. I get a consistent 30 fps on my computer, so what makes my computer so special?

Is it because I'm running the debugger version of Flash Player? Or does my graphics card have anything to do with it? Or maybe it's Chrome, because my framerate goes down to 23 fps in Firefox. Does installing the gamepad plugin make it faster, possibly because you won't cause javascript errors?

Well, it looks like performance will be the next thing I'll work on...

Yeah, I noticed that about the sound the other day too. I should fix that.

And yeah, that's kinda a legitimate tactic, but since it feels so hackish, maybe we should further weaken the amount of force at which you throw a block down.

I just finished some major optimizations, and now I want to see how the game runs on everyone's computers

http://interguild.org/magnet-ball/

While playing the match, press the debug key (either the tilde "~" or backslash "\" key) and tell me what the framerate is on the top right of the screen.

22-24 fps.

Also, would it be possible to make this run so 2 people could play through the interguild? Like so they don't have to be using the same computer .-.

That would require net code which is incredibly difficult and time consuming

^ Flash is right. Adding networking to Magnet Ball would be a project on its own. I suppose we're going to have to figure out all of these performance issues first, because it's really hard to sync two games together when one user is already falling very behind the other.

Can you guys try the game again? I've made a few more changes so that now it's able to run at around 60 fps on my computer, whereas yesterday it ran at around 50 fps.

Thanks for the updates. I'll release another version tonight or tomorrow and we'll see if the newest change brings it up to 30 fps.

58fps with drops down to 40
Chrome, also you might be intressted in checking what hardware people use since i doubt a decent computer should get 6-7fps

Thanks again for posting your frame rates. I just finished a really large optimization, which also ended up making the game's file size 20% smaller. I have a theory that this might end up being one of the most significant framerate optimizations that we've done yet, but I can't really know for sure because my computer's already running at max framerate. How does the game run on your computers now?

Also, a side effect of this optimization is that the debug screen now displays behind all of the menu elements.

It performed very well for me. So well that I forgot to really check to make sure that it ran well near the end, where it would usually start to run slower. (Either because I didn't notice it, or because the game lasted shorter than I was expecting)

Seemed to be in the upper thirties, though.

So apparently I'm pretty bad at this. I played as red since his controls were easier to remember/find, and tried to get him to score on himself so that blue would win. Red won 5-4.
