I somehow got the idea that this would be kept private and only open for us Interguildians. Well, my brother has shown interest in this...

I've paid for everything now. In less than 10 minutes I will receive an email with all the necessary information, by then the server will be set up for us, apparently.

Well, you can invite people.  What I mean is we advertise the Interguild, and one of the things is that we have a Minecraft server.  And... I really hope you guys don't mind, but I have a friend that loves MC, and I hope you guys don't mind if I invite him.

Excellent! I'll try and connect within the hour.

I think if anyone from outside the interguild is going to join the server, they should be made to join the interguild as well. Interguild members should have priority.

I've mentioned that I have a minecraft server to a few people, and I have a few friends that want to join - likewise do I want them to be able to join. We need to have a discussion about what standards we enforce upon people who want to join, because so far, we will only have our friends join us (which is perfectly fine IMO, given our limited server). Should we force them to join the Interguild as well before letting them join? Must they also post a minimum number of posts?
In my opinion, we MAY force them to join the Interguild, but not to post a specific amount of posts. A cool thing would be if we forced them to make a level for any game before letting them join.

I think that before we invite in any friends, we should get the server running correctly with spawn/ranks/etc and then open it up to the whole of the interguild (I'm under the impression not everyone can see this thread). Wait for interguild members to join, wait a week and then invite friends. Current members should be given a chance to join first.

That's because you are too close to spawn...

Yeah, when I really thought about it, the posts wouldn't be a good idea.  However, since Newcomers are going to be able to build, I think that a post with the coordinates of something worthwhile that they built, and how long they have been on the server, and possibly a line or two why they think they should get promoted.

Yes, please.  Once more, I bring up a whitelist.  If your name is not on the whitelist, you can not join the server.  I think that'd be a great temporary way to do just that.

I'll post more on this later today..

I'm not really interested in Minecraft, with how vastly superior Dwarf Fortress is, but this could be fun. If I can get Minecraft running, I'll also be able to make donations for the server.

Small clarification: All Interguild members can see this, but you have to be logged in to see it.

Yeah, we can put the ad money to some good use! The site usually makes somewhere around $10 USD a month, sometimes less, sometimes more, so it's pretty random, but every summer our traffic goes way up. Would that be enough?

Speaking of site traffic, you guys know how I started a Video Game Developers club at my university this semester? I should advertise this to them, and maybe they'd be interested enough and fall in love with the Interguild while they're at it. Our last club meeting is on Monday (semester ends on May 12th ), and I'm very uninformed with it comes to Minecraft servers and how they work so is there anything else I need to know other than "we have a minecraft server, go check it out".

I'm planning on getting a new laptop this summer. This current one has lasted me for the last few years and is pretty much ready to kick the bucket. I'm hoping to get a high-end laptop that can play games on it, and one of my goals is to get Minecraft on it. So I would definitely want to contribute to this if that happens.

As far as I'm concerned, Livio, you can play Minecraft on your laptop right away because the remote server does all the hard work for you. It's the Internet connection that's more important from what I know. Come join us!

And it's awesome that you've started a game dev society; let them in on Aeon! Make it the offical video game of Arizona uni! As for telling them about the server, just say that as long as they join this site and behave themselves, they can get on the whitelist for this server. We haven't got anything special to offer, it's just a server where you can build whatever you want within reason.

The current server space we have cost us 7,95 USD per month. I think we might need to upgrade it into something bigger though, because this server is optimized for having 12 people playing, and we're steadily approaching that. An upgrade into a server that can handle 24 people will cost us 23,95 USD monthly (), HOWEVER, Brohoster (the site we're buying our server from) has announced an upgrade to their servers that we are free to buy. Our monthly price would then increase from 7,95 USD per month to 11,95 USD per month. I am not sure if we can safely handle more than 12 people at the same time, but it's an interesting thought.
Details are in the Info and Updates thread.

What? That sure is early. I don't end until June 14th. Anyway, tell them about the Interguild, and mention our demands for letting people join it - they must register to the Interguild. The IP to the server is in the header to this topic, they need it to connect to the server (duh), so write it down and let them copy it from you.

I'm playing Minecraft on a wireless network, using this laptop. You'll probably be fine with the current one.

whoa that's awesome. I've got to look into that. I'm hoping the Info thread has all the info a complete newbie like me would need to get started. If it doesn't, then tell me where I can find it.

I know that there was at least one guy who was interested in the idea of Aeon, but we all decided to start out small and make simple games in order to build up skills and get experience. We'll probably tackle bigger projects next semester. I wonder if we can try out some rapid prototyping next semester...

Isa, the reason we get out so early is because the Fall semester also begins early: in August.

I'm in the third and final term of my first year at university and I have 8 exams coming up over the next few weeks. I'm looking forward to finishing up so I can actually start programming for fun.

Oh right, you have three semesters per year there. I kind of feel the same way, except for me programming for fun = programming Aeon.

Isa, you started on a Sunday? My week count subtracted the one week we got off for Spring break. did you get any breaks throughout the semester? Maybe we just have lower expectations  here in Arizona.

No. I start in August and end just before Christmas, then start again in early January and end middle of June.

Also, if 9th was a Sunday, I started 10th.
